Witchery Sign To Century Media Records

Sweden's Witchery have returned from the dead after a two year hiatus to sign a worldwide deal with Century Media Records and deliver their highly-anticipated fourth full-length offering Don't Fear The Reaper, which is set for a late March release.

Led by Jensen (The Haunted), Richard Corpse, Toxine and Mique, Witchery's spell was cast upon our earthly existence back in 1997. Before recording their debut album, Restless And Dead, Jensen recruited Sharlee D'Angelo (Arch Enemy, ex-Mercyful Fate) and got him on board for the unholy alliance. Subsequently, the band released the Witchburner EP (feat. cover songs by Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, W.A.S.P. and Accept). Their second full-length album, Dead, Hot And Ready, stirred up a strong buzz in the underground metal scene, helping the band tour the U.S. and Europe.

In 2001, the group delivered Symphony For The Devil, their first album staring drummer Martin Axenrot (Bloodbath, Opeth), which quickly solidified them as one of the genre's best. Jensen's touring commitments with The Haunted forced Witchery into hibernation for some time, but the band finally recorded their new masterpiece Don't Fear The Reaper at Berno Studios in the Fall of 2004. The album was mixed by Tue Madsen at Antfarm Studios (The Haunted, Heaven Shall Burn, Mnemic) and features the band's catchiest, yet most savage material to date.

Jensen (guitars) further describes his excitement over their new deal: "Finally, I'll say it again...finally, Witchery has signed a new deal. This time with Century Media. I'm really glad that we will be handled by the same team that has done such a great job for our other bands – The Haunted and Arch Enemy. Our new album. Don't Fear The Reaper, has been recorded, mixed and mastered since October 2004, so it feels really great to be able to say to all the Witchery fans I've met over the past years that the album will definitely be out early next year! A new website will be up and running soon too, so keep an eye out for that. There will be touring and major festivals appearances coming up next year, as well. See you all out there soon."

Witchery In Mixing Mode

Witchery guitarist Patrik Jensen (The Haunted) has posted the following message at the Earth-Dog.com message board:

Alright, so where do I start... It's been a long time since Witchery has done anything... I think the last thing we did was the tour of Mexico we did together with The Haunted and To/Die/For... can't even remember when the Hell that was haha

"Oh well..anyways, after The Haunted had completed the new album, I guess the time was right, if not even way overdue, to get a new Witchery album done. Richard, Martin and myself had rehearsed a few times during my 2003 xmas visit to my old home town, so we had material for 3-4 songs floating around. However, we didnt get writing & rehearsing really going until late June, due to touring & festival obligations I had with The Haunted.

"We rehearsed all through the summer, and by the first week of August, we had all the songs written. We recorded the yet untitled album at the Berno studio in Malmö, Sweden (same studio as for 'Symphonies for the Devil'). We have 16 songs that are being mixed & mastered right now.

"Some song titles are:

01. Draw Blood
02. Plaguerider
03. Disturbing the Beast
04. Stigmatized
05. War Piece

"Hopefully, the album will be out before the end of this year... The album title will be posted, as soon as a title has been chosen

"And finally, to state the obvious, the Witchery home page has been terribly neglected lately. This will be rectified as soon as possible."

Bloodbath Announce Luneup Additions

In a recent announcement from guitarist Blakkheim (also Katatonia, Diabolical Masquerade), Swedish Death metal superband BLOODBATH have enlisted the talents of HYPOCRISY legend Peter Tägtgren to replace the departed Mike Åkerfeldt (Opeth) and WITCHERY drummer Martin "Axe" Axenrot. Here's Blakkheim's statement:

"Here are the official announcements directly from the boiling brew of blood you've been waiting for. The dark grave of ex-vocalist Mike Åkerfeldt has now got a new inhabitant that needs no further introduction - Peter Tägtgren! Furthermore, after analyzing a wide range of drummers, we handpicked Martin "Axe" Axenrot! Widely known for helluva fiercly beats in bands such as Witchery, Satanic Slaughter, Nepehenzy Chaos Order. We're currently in the heat of fire composing the last material to the album and will soon deliver some titles. Until then, let the blood run red.”

Bloodbath are completed by Katatonia/October Tide bassist Jonas Renske and jack-of-all-trades guitarist Dan Swano.
