Let Us Prey Releases New Music Video

The Boston-based melodic power/thrash group Let Us Prey has premiered a music video for a new song titled "Deadlight Sunset." The track – which features a guest solo by guitarist Nick Petrino (Dee Snider) – is now available for streaming and download at all digital platforms, while the video can be viewed below.

"Deadlight Sunset" represents the first new music from Let Us Prey since the release of their 2020 full-length debut, "Virtues of the Vicious," and is a companion piece of sorts to that album's "In Suffering," a deeply personal song that vocalist Marc Lopes (also of Ross The Boss) penned about his struggles with mental health. Says Lopes, "Written originally as a bonus track that wasn't finished in time for the final 'Virtues of the Vicious' release, it’s a Part II to 'In Suffering' in the context of its subject matter of depression, suicide and the struggles of mental dis-ease. 'Deadlight Sunset' is a journey into the mindset of wanting to commit suicide – the helplessness, the comforting thought and relief in thinking this option is the solution. This is a first-hand account from me personally – a very dark subject, a very real subject, but something that needs to be discussed and with no shame. Luckily for me, I'm still here to tell the dark tale, to hopefully convey a message that there is a better solution and to bring awareness to this growing matter. We also have our good friend Nick Petrino from Dee Snider’s band doing a killer solo that was a bit out of his normal wheelhouse as well, and it just completes the vibe on this tune. We’re never afraid to go against the norm within the metal genre, as Let Us Prey has many shades, colors and dynamics to what we do, so always expect the unexpected. (Wait ‘til you hear the next record.) Welcome to The Deadlight Sunset." More...

Rage Reveals New Album Details

The band’s fans were overjoyed when in summer 2020 Rage frontman Peavy Wagner presented the group’s new line-up featuring two guitarists, announcing a return to the constellation that had recorded classics such as Black In Mind and End Of All Days. After last year’s departure of Marcos Rodriguez, Stefan Weber (ex-Axxis) was enlisted, followed just a few weeks later by Jean Bormann (Angel Inc, Rage & Ruins). The fourth band member is drummer Vassilios “Lucky” Maniatopoulos, who has been with Rage since 2015. The current line-up could be seen and heard for the first time on the "The Price Of War 2.0" video clip, a new edition of the same-named song from Black In Mind, which has been available on all major online channels since June 2020. Immediately afterwards, the quartet commenced work on its brand-new album Resurrection Day. "I'm surprised how quickly the new line-up has gelled into a homogeneous team and how positively the talents of each band member have come into effect," says Wagner, looking back on a highly creative production phase and commenting on Rage’s latest offering: "I feel that our music is still typical Rage on the one hand while sounding so much fresher on the other."

Rage have recorded twelve new songs covering a stylistic range that could hardly be more characteristic of the band, from raw thrash metal tracks like "Virginity" (also the first single and video), "The Age Of Reason" and "Extinction Overkill" through mid tempo pieces such as "Arrogance And Ignorance" and "Monetary Gods" to the straightforward ballad "Black Room" which balances things out. "Rage fans get exactly what they want on 'Resurrection Day,' plus a surprise or two," promises Peavy, mentioning in particular "Travelling Through Time," a number that explores the extremes between bludgeoning "shoot-em up grooves" (quote Peavy) and epic moments. "The song is inspired by Renaissance composer Giorgio Mainerio," he explains. "There`s a piece by Mainerio called 'Schiarazula Marazula,' with a wonderful theme that I often play at home on acoustic guitar. Jean and I have adapted it to suit the Rage format and given the song a different rhythmic perspective, which has added intensity. We’ve never done a number like 'Travelling Through Time' before."

So we can look forward to a very special Rage album, and of course eventually also to live shows. Provided that the situation allows it, Peavy and his men are set to embark on a major European tour in November 2021. With Resurrection Day on their setlist, the shows are guaranteed to turn into highly explosive events! More...

Interview

Nanowar Of Steel Explains "Italian Folk Metal"

For almost as long as heavy metal has existed, there's been people around to make fun of it. Sometimes it comes from a place of love like Tenacious D or Steel Panther, other times it's comedians seeing a sub-culture and genre that's ripe for parody, as was the case for Bad News, Spinal Tap and even Richard Pryor on his television show. While a good chunk of fans tend to take offence to these send ups, most take it in good humour and appreciate that sometimes, the things we love the most can be pretty silly.

Enter Nanowar Of Steel, formerly known simply as Nanowar before changing their name to poke fun at countrymen Rhapsody Of Fire, who themselves had to change their name from Rhapsody. For almost twenty years, the Italian collective has been poking fun at metal music, particularly at those who take the genre extremely seriously. For a long time, the group did this independently and garnered a strong following. However today, the band releases "Italian Folk Metal," their first album through a record label, the ever growing Napalm Records.

To find out why now is the right time to sign with a label, what makes folk metal ripe for parody, the importance of food in their lyrics and much more, we caught up with bassist Gatto Panceri 666. You can watch the interview in full below. More...

Burning Darkness Posts New Music Video Online

The sophomore album of Swedish black metallers Burning Darkness, titled, "Dödens Makt," is finally released today via Non Serviam Records. To celebrate, the band has released a new music video for the song, "In The Shadow Of Webbed Wings," which can be seen below.

"Fans of 90's black metal will love it. We at Burning Darkness don't concern ourselves with current trends. We play the type of music we love. Still not rigidly stuck in one spot, we musically take inspiration from other genres of metal and beyond. The new album has more variation than our debut. While it goes mostly quite fast, we've added slower and heavy as led parts as well. Rawness is balanced with atmosphere. On this album I wrote all the lyrics, discussing themes of death and anti-Christianity. I also added heathenry and folklore elements. There's horror and ancient evil awakening. This is the subjects that interest me so that's what I wrote. Just listen to the music over and over and try to manifest what the music makes me see into words," explains the frontman Per Kolderup Finstad. More...

Between Worlds To Release Debut Album In September

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to introduce the new project Between Worlds, which is a vehicle for US singer Ronny Munroe (ex-Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Metal Church) and highlights his considerable vocal talent. Written and produced by Munroe in partnership with Italian musician and producer Alessandro Del Vecchio, this self-titled debut album is a must hear for fans of classic American heavy/power metal and will be released on September 10th.

Its title track is available as a single now, with Munroe stating that "the song is about how unexpected changes in life occur, as they did with myself and my late wife. You find yourself not knowing what to do as you are lost in the mist and you really don't know what is going to happen next. So, basically, you are caught between worlds."

He continues: "When Ale[ssandro] contacted me and asked if I wanted to write some songs with him, I jumped at the opportunity because I have a lot of respect for him as a musician, writer, producer and engineer. He does it all and does it very well! I have always written about my life and the things that I have gone through. I find it cathartic and I have a lot to say, both lyrically and musically. I really look forward to building on the foundation that we have started." More...

Urne To Support Orange Goblin On UK Tour

British heavy metal veterans Orange Goblin has announced that Spirit Adrift will be unable to join them as support on their upcoming tour of the United Kingdom, owing to the current pandemic. A message from the band reads as follows:

"Given the current global circumstances, we (Orange Goblin) have made the decision to slightly change the supports on our upcoming 25th Anniversary UK tour in December. Spirit Adrift would love to have been able to do the tour but with no indication of when they will be able to travel to Europe or the UK, or book flights, we have decided that it will be best to go ahead with 2 UK based support bands. Spirit Adrift have been very understanding of this situation, support our decision and we sincerely hope that we can tour with this amazing band at some point in the near future. As a result of this, our good friends and recognised rockers King Creature will now perform as main support each night and we welcome the awesome Urne to the tour as openers each night. Urne have just released their debut album 'Serpent & Spirit' through Spinefarm Records and it is a complete banger! We feel this is a great package with 3 amazing bands and we hope that we can get together with Spirit Adrift when the world is back to 'normal'. See everyone on tour in December!"

Urne bassist/vocalist Joe Nally commented: "Orange Goblin have been a staple of the UK rock and metal scene for as long as we can remember and we're honoured to support them on their 25th anniversary tour. We're really looking forward to (finally) playing some new places across the UK on this run!"

The tour dates are as follows:

Wed 8 Dec - The Booking Hall, Dover, UK *
Thu 9 Dec - Tivoli, Buckley, UK

Mortemia Shares New Lyric Video

Morten Veland (Sirenia, Mortemia and founder of Tristania) just released an official lyric video for the song "Death Turns a Blind Eye," the second single from "The Pandemic Pandemonium Sessions." The song features Marcela Bovio (MaYaN, Dark Horse White Horse) on guest vocals, and is live on Youtube right now.

Morten Veland: "I am proud and honored to introduce Marcela Bovio as my special guest for ‘The Pandemic Pandemonium Sessions’. The second song is entitled ‘Death Turns a Blind Eye’, and will be available on all digital platforms on the 18th of June 2021. I have known Marcela for more than a decade now and she is definitely one of the top shelf singers in the genre, she has an impressive vocal range, great interpretation, a present nerve and an amazing technique. Working on this project so far has been an amazing journey for me, and I feel truly privileged to have Marcela onboard this project. I am really looking forward to sharing this song with you all."

Marcela Bovio: "I've known Morten for quite a few years now, we met officially when touring together back in 2009. I've always been impressed by his musical vision and songwriting talent, he writes amazing songs with beautiful melodies. And if you know me you know that I'm all about the beautiful melodies! Since we hadn't spoken in quite some time his invitation came a bit as a surprise, but it was of course very flattering; and after listening to the song I was sold! ‘Death Turns a Blind Eye’ is a wonderful track, just like I would expect from Morten; it has an amazing chorus with some nice vocal layers. I'm really happy with how it came out, and I hope both Mortemia and Marcela Bovio fans enjoy it as well." More...

At The Gates Releases New Music Video

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At The Gates are releasing their newest studio album "The Nightmare Of Being" worldwide via Century Media Records today.

Check out the title-track "The Nightmare Of Being" in a video directed by Patric Ullaeus / www.rEvolver.se (Arch Enemy, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, etc.) below.

At The Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg Redant commented as follows: "One of the key tracks on the album, this one is really dark and haunting, with some classic old school At The Gates harmonies thrown in. I guess some of you have already read up on the concept of the album, this one is the introduction to said concept, introducing the main idea that mankind's consciousness is the ghost of our nightmares, the plague that drives us to our own extinction. I am really happy that Patric Ullaeus got the chance to, once again, interpret the dark themes of our music with his video. He really gave this a special feeling, which I think goes really well with the theme of the abyss of the human soul. Today you can also, finally, listen to the whole album! Dive in! It is, as said before, the most rich, cinematic, textured, layered, progressive and dynamic album we have ever written. Thanks for listening!" More...

Vader To Re-Release Second Album

Polish death metal legends Vader released their much acclaimed 15th full length record "Solitude In Madness" in 2020 and proved to the world that even after almost 40 years of existence, they were still one of the leading forces within their genre and beyond. However, let's not forget that the year 2020 also marked the 25th anniversary of Vader's classic and much sought-after 2nd album "De Profundis" (first released 1995 in Poland), which hasn't been properly available in physical form in about two decades, although it's regarded by many fans as one of the best albums in the band's catalogue.

But rejoice, Vader and Nuclear Blast haven't forgotten about it and will re-release "De Profundis" fully re-mastered and on various formats, including its first ever appearance on vinyl, on July 30th 2021!

Founding member Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek comments:
"De Profundis was never released on vinyl. The mid-90s were dominated by CDs. The original tape from Modern Sound Studio was lost with no chance of recovering it, so we made a new master using a Telefunken professional tape studio recorder to give the whole record a warmer sound, a more analogue feel and dynamics, but without altering the original version of course."
