Within Temptation Shares New Visualizer

Within Temptation have released the new single "Shed My Skin," which is a heavy and epic anthem about the changes we all face in life and meeting them head on.

"'Shed My Skin’ revolves around dealing with inevitable changes in life. It is about becoming the person we are meant to be, even if that means losing people we love, but have grown apart from. Real growth begins where comfort zones end and that’s exactly what the song is all about: if we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living," reveals frontwoman Sharon Den Adel.

For this song the band has teamed up with German metalcore band Annisokay. "Shed My Skin" thrives upon Sharon’s melodic vocal lines and with Annisokay’s frontmen Rudi Schwarzer and Christoph Wieczorek adding another layer of soaring, heartfelt vocals, the song has grown into an absolute bombastic metal anthem.

Wieczorek comments, "Within Temptation are a band we love and have listened to for many, many years. You can imagine how stunned we were, when they reached out and asked us if we want to feature on their next single – just because they love our music as well! We’re beyond proud about being a part of this amazing song and really hope the people out their love it as much as we do." More...

Sculptured To Release First New Album In 13 Years

Progressive death metal veterans Sculptured has announced the release of a brand new album, titled, "The Liminal Phase," which will hit the shelves on August 27th through BMG. The band has also posted a new lyric video for the song, "The Ordeal Of Undecidability," which can be seen below.

The 25-year history of Sculptured’s visionary approach to progressive heaviness is the story of guitarist/vocalist Don Anderson’s lifelong musical odyssey.

Formed in the mid ’90s during Anderson’s teen years, early Sculptured songs took their inspiration from the progressive and melodic nature of Chuck Schuldiner’s ever-evolving ideas, after Anderson heard Death’s 1991 record, "Human." By 1996, Anderson was tracking his own compositions. Three recorded songs surfaced on that year’s "Fulfillment in Tragedy" demo tape, and some of that material also landed on Sculptured’s debut full-length album, "The Spear Of The Lily Is Aureoled" (1998). After being picked up for a CD and cassette run by Polish record label Mad Lion, The Spear of the Lily is Aureoled found a home in the U.S. with The End Records, the label that would become Sculptured’s long term partner. In the late ‘90s, Anderson began working with John Haughm and Jason Walton in Agalloch, and both Agalloch’s Pale Folklore and Sculptured’s sophomore record, "Apollo Ends," benefitted from the trio’s collaboration. "Apollo Ends" also saw the return of Spear vocalist Brian Yager and trumpet player Burke Harris. More...

Utopia To Release Debut Album In August

Utopia, the technical metal group centred around guitarist John Bailey and Corrupt Moral Altar vocalist Chris Reese will let loose their debut album "Stalker" on August 27th through APF Records. You can check out a music video for the song, "Happiness" below.

The album see John and Chris joined by an impressive list of guest musicians such as drummers Billy Rymer, Baard Kolstad (Leprous) Lee Fisher (Fawn Limbs/Psyopus) and Si Blakelock (Tangaroa/Dream Troll) alongside guitarist Simon Peter King, bassist Arran McSporran (De Profundis/Virvum) and finally keyboardist Mike Moran (Ozzy Osbourne/George Harrison).

The initial idea for the band was formed by John Bailey, by day he’s a touring guitarist for the likes of Aled Jones and Russell Watson, a far cry from the extreme metal of Utopia, but with "Stalker" he wanted to bring together all the music he loves, creating something aggressive and intense but also well thought out and intelligent. He comments;

"I wanted it to be super heavy and crazy but also really emotional. The music combines elements of jazz and various styles of metal. The songwriting is very important lyrically and structurally. The lyrics draw influence from philosophy, literature, art and film (particularly the films of Andrei Tarkovsky).

"The concept of the name Utopia is a reflection of mental health/neurodiversity and social structures in the world we live in. The double edged sword of trying to lead a happy life in a world of conflicting ideology and bad faith between humans. I suppose the pitfalls of attempting a sophisticated life despite us being poorly evolved primates who are highly individual in their own rights. Its ultimately rooted in varying degrees of sensitivity, mental health and neurodiversity based on individuals trying to interface with one another in a constructive way." More...

Employed To Serve Reveals New Album Details

Today, Employed To Serve officially announce their fourth album, "Conquering," their most metal offering yet. The record will be their second full-length record to be released via Spinefarm and is due to drop on September 17th 2021. The band has also released a new music video for the song, "Exit," which can be seen below.

"Conquering," is a fully realised metamorphosis into the band they’ve always wanted to be. Drawing influence from the music of their youth and a new perspective on how to nurture the positive aspects of humanity and individual growth, Conquering is a celebration and acknowledgement of triumph in the face of a world that can be relentlessly adversarial.

Employed To Serve frontwoman Justine Jones says, "'Conquering' is about rising above adversity and self-doubt. We're really excited to share our latest album, I feel it's our best work to date. We wanted to go a more metal orientated direction with this album and see how far we could push our musical capabilities."

Meanwhile, first single "Exist" arrives like a call to arms.

"'Exist' is a song that celebrates the highs and lows of existing," says Justine Jones. "For this video I really wanted to capture the excitement of being a pre-teen and discovering the absolute joy that is music. I loved the idea of getting into someone's head at that time and them daydreaming about being on stage with the band you love, like we did when we were that age and recently in the past year when we couldn't play shows!"

Justine continues; "It took 6 months of planning due to the pandemic and because we had to source someone who could create one-off figures of each band member. We were lucky enough to come across Mattachine Society from Brooklyn, who creates awesome bootlegs. For the model stage and backline, Sammy and I channelled our inner Art Attack and made that during the winter lockdown to keep our minds from the apocalypse.

"When having meetings about how to dress the set and actors, we wanted to shout out as many of our mates' bands as possible and leave little Easter eggs for people to find with each re-watch of the video.

"The most important aspect of the video for me was finding a young energetic girl to play the really stoked kid. When I was growing up, metal was a very male dominated genre and I always felt a bit out of place. I feel that this is a different story now with so many women in bands, working in the industry and in the crowd, it's becoming normalised which is really exciting." More...

Darkthrone Uploads New Lyric Video

To celebrate the release of the epic new Darkthrone album, "Eternal Hails," that is released today on Peaceville Records, the band have premiered the album’s opening track "His Master's Voice."

The animated lyric video created by Matthew Vickerstaff, has been inspired by the album’s stunning artwork that features the piece "Pluto And Charon" (1972), from renowned science fiction artist David A. Hardy; a hugely inspirational image for both Fenriz & Nocturno Culto spanning several decades, and this also stands as a symbolic link between the genre-bending styles apparent on Darkthrone’s earliest works, to those same traits evident on "Eternal Hails." Orange Goblin Introduces New Bass Player

Legendary UK metal band ORANGE GOBLIN have announced that Harry Armstrong (formerly of Decomposed, Hangnail, Earls of Mars, End of Level Boss and current frontman of Blind River) will be joining the band as a permanent replacement for Martyn Millard, a founding member and bass player for the past 26 years, who played his last shows with Orange Goblin this past weekend in London as part of their special 25 Year Anniversary celebration shows that were also livestreamed around the world.

Harry joins Orange Goblin immediately and his first show with the band will now be at The Yard in Cornwall on Saturday 31st July. Support at this show comes from Phil Campbell & The Bastard Sons, Massive Wagons, Raging Speedhorn, White Raven Down and Mother Vulture.

Asked about the changing of the guard, the band issued the following statement:

"It is with very heavy hearts that the day has come and we finally say goodbye to our founding member, bass player, lifelong brother and best friend Martyn Millard. Martyn has made the very hard decision to step down from Orange Goblin and given us his blessing to continue with the band, something that we understand and accept. Things will never be the same without the thunder that only Martyn can bring but this opens a new chapter in the Orange Goblin story. We all thank Martyn for his contribution and sacrifices to Orange Goblin over the course of the past 26 years and wish him well in whatever he chooses to do next. We know that none of the things this band has achieved since the start would have been possible without his commitment, passion and talent and we are eternally grateful for that.

"When Martyn informed us of his decision to leave there was only one person that all of us instantly and fully agreed on to fill the huge shoes that Martyn leaves, and so we would like to give a massive welcome to our long time friend and conspirator Harry Armstrong, as he joins Orange Goblin as the new bass player. Harry has been a part of the family since day one, his enthusiasm, talent and encyclopedic knowledge of heavy metal means that he is perfectly suited for the band and we look forward to what the future brings with this new line-up. We have all been fans of Harry and his musical output throughout his career (Decomposed, Hangnail, End of Level Boss, The Earls of Mars, Noisepicker, The Winchester Club, Blind River....the list goes on) and we have toured together, drunk together and laughed together enough to know that he is the perfect man for the job. We are about to sign a new record deal and Harry will play a vital role in the writing of the next record. Please join us in wishing Martyn a fond farewell and at the same time welcoming Harry Armstrong as the new bass player in Orange Goblin." More...
