Macabre Posts Animated Music Video Online

Chicago legends of murder metal/death metal Macabre released their demented, heinous bloodbath of an album "Carnival Of Killers" in November 2020 via Nuclear Blast. Today, the band releases an animated music video for track "Richard Speck Grew Big Breasts."

In 1996, award-winning news journalist Bill Kurtis debuted a series on Chicago’s WBBM-TV displaying video clips of Richard Speck and two other inmates in a staff training area inside the maximum security Stateville Correctional Center. The footage included Speck detailing how he was enjoying himself in prison by engaging in sexual acts as well as showing the use of illegal substances. Speck's appearance was noticeably altered as he had used illicitly supplied female hormones to grow breasts.

Macabre's Corporate Death comments, "I started getting the idea to write this song after seeing the Speck videos on Channel 2 News here in Chicago. We played it out a few times soon after including an appearance on the top-rated Mancow's Morning Madhouse radio program but only recently has it been properly recorded and released for our Carnival Of Killers album. I wanted to give it a punk rock feel, I was going to a lot of club shows then and was inspired by Dayglo Abortions, 7 Seconds, MDC, and vocally by D.I."

Former Skid Row Vocalist Hospitalized

Johnny Solinger, best known as the vocalist for Skid Row from 1999-2015, has revealed via his Facebook page that he has been dealing with some serious health issues of late, after being diagnosed with liver failure. A statement from the singer reads as follows:

"It is with a heavy heart I must let everyone know what’s going on with me and my health. I have been hospitalized for over the last month. I have been diagnosed with liver failure. And prognosis is not so good. As with most musicians I do not have health insurance and it’s very difficult to get proper care without it.

"I am currently under at least seven different medications and I need to have my abdomen drained off fluid that gets accumulated every couple of days. I have lost a lot of strength and will require physical therapy as well.

"At the moment, I am looking into putting together some sort of fundraiser to help with the medical bills and with the palliative care I will need in the coming months. I am kindly asking those of you who could help put this together to step forward. I would not be asking you all this if I didn’t really need the help, but sadly this is where I’m at.

"I appreciate and want you all to keep me in your thoughts and send me all the healing vibes you can, but I get exhausted easily so I will ask you to please not call or text unless absolutely necessary. But please, if you can help in this difficult time, I will wholeheartedly appreciate it.

"Love you all. I will post a link where you can donate very soon but I wanted to update you on my condition."

Interview

Artillery Guitarist Explains New Album "X"

Thrash metal has a long and rich history. The Bay Area, New York and German scenes were all massively influential and gave the world bands which to this day, still sell well and headline festivals and arenas. These weren't the only parts of the world to produce thrash stalwarts however. In Canada, Razor, Sacrifice and Exciter represented their country well, as did Onslaught, Sabbat and Acid Reign from the UK. Some countries seemed to have a particular band to carry the flag, such as Mortal Sin from Australia, Hermética of Argentina and of course, Artillery represented Denmark wonderfully.

With such classic albums as "Terror Squad" and "By Inheritance," to their name, Artillery are undoubtedly one of the most revered thrash metal bands to emerge from Europe. Formed in 1982, the band has bounced back from breakups and even death to remain strong today, as evidenced by the new album, "X." Out now through Metal Blade Records, "X" perfectly captures the excitement and variety of Artillery's catalogue. To find out more about the album, how the pandemic affected the recording process and much more, I caught up with guitarist Michael Stützer. You can watch the interview in full below. More...
