Desolation Angels Opens Up About "Burning Black"

The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal is the gift that keeps on giving. While everyone and their dog knows Iron Maiden, Saxon and Def Leppard, the movement contained so many quality bands that the deeper one digs, the more gems they find. Cult favourites like Tygers Of Pan Tang, Raven, Girlschool and Tank immediately spring to mind, but then even more excellent bands find their way into regular listening such as Dealer, Cloven Hoof and Desolation Angels.

Desolation Angels' have a particularly interesting history. Starting up in a London scene which also featured the likes of Angel Witch and the aforementioned Maiden, the band eventually moved to the United States to try their luck across the pond. They would call it a day in 1994 but it's very hard to keep the spirit of heavy metal down and so in 2012, guitarist Robin Brancher and Keith Sharp resurrected the band, eventually releasing the album, "King" independently in 2017.

Marching on with vigour and determination, the band now find themselves signed to Dissonance Records and with a new album, "Burning Black" almost completed, featuring production by Grim Reaper vocalist Steve Grimmett. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has halted work on the album for now, but I caught up with bassist Clive Pearson to discuss the album, the return of the band, the highs and lows of playing heavy metal, working with producer Chris Tsangarides and much more. You can watch the interview in full below. More...

Orange Goblin Announces 25th Anniversary Tour

Diehard exponents of the noble art of heavy metal since 1995, Orange Goblin have spent the last two and a half decades steadily but surely establishing themselves as one of the UK’s most loved and respected bands. Emerging from the stoner rock explosion of the mid ‘90s, the band led the way for that scene on British shores, kicking off with classic debut album Frequencies From Planet Ten in 1997 and continuing with a steady stream of critically acclaimed albums that boldly and gleefully blurred the lines between stoner, doom, black, crust and southern rock, while always fervently saluting the old school heavy metal flag and the sacred Sabbathian code.

Widely admired as one of the most ludicrously thunderous and entertaining live bands on the planet, Orange Goblin have paid their dues and earned the right to be regarded as a heavy metal institution. The band’s last three albums, A Eulogy For The Damned (2012) and Back From The Abyss (2014) and The Wolf Bites Back (2018) have further cemented their reputation. More...

Nervosa Unveils New Lineup

Brazilian thrash metal outfit Nervosa has announced that, following the departure of vocalist/bassist Fernanda Lira and drummer Luana Dametto, guitarist Prika Amaral has recruited a new vocalist, bassist and drummer to the lineup, making the band a quartet for the first time.

Prika Amaral said:
"It was an incredible experience to meet so many talented women. It was not easy to choose just one and being forced to say “No” to several really good musicians. But the question is beyond musical competence. It involves availability, professional posture, good communication, etc ... But I am very happy with the result and very confident. I already have a lot of new songs saved and we have already started writing (which was one of the tests applied during auditions). We will launch some new material online while the Covid-19 situation is sorted. I guarantee that Nervosa comes with full strength.

"To take care of the singing duties Diva Satanica was chosen, currently she is vocalist of the band Bloodhunter, where they have already made several important presentations including alongside Nervosa. More...

Winterfylleth Posts New Lyric Video Online

British Black Metal pioneers Winterfylleth have released a lyric video for their merciless track "Misdeeds Of Faith," the second single taken from their forthcoming new album "The Reckoning Dawn," set for release on 8th May 2020 via Candlelight Records/Spinefarm Records.

"The new single, 'Misdeeds Of Faith', is a really immediate, aggressive and visceral song for Winterfylleth, and is probably the song least like the others on the album," comments guitarist/vocalist Chris Naughton. "But for me that's no bad thing, as it's an interesting twist on the Winterfylleth sound in that it mixes a more 'up front' style of riffing with the chanted vocals and the elements of the band that might be more familiar to our fans. It's actually the first song on the new album and sets out the album as a triumphant return to Black Metal (after the acoustic album) and is hopefully a moment that makes people sit up and listen."

The first full length metal album since 2014’s "The Divination of Antiquity," The Reckoning Dawn finds the band returning at the absolute top of their game, across an expansive journey of an album. Eight brand new songs of blistering, atmospheric and emotive black metal adorn the records near 60 minute running length and serves to highlight the strength and depth of material in the Winterfylleth canon, resulting in one of the darkest and most powerful records of 2020.

Recorded and produced once again by the legendary Chris Fielding (Primordial, Napalm Death, Conan, Electric Wizard, Fen) at Foel Studios in Wales, The Reckoning Dawn shows the band at their strongest. More...

Draconian Posts New Lyric Video Online

Today, the sovereigns of melancholic Gothic Doom Metal and colossal lyricism, Draconian, release the first single "Lustrous Heart," off their upcoming album, "Under A Godless Veil," out October 30, 2020 via Napalm Records.

"Lustrous Heart" slowly unfolds the gloomy universe in between doom and gothic – the unique trademark sound Draconian has been known for since the mid-90s. Anders Jacobsson's growls perfectly harmonize with Heike Langhans’ divine voice, while merging into hypnotizing melodies and slow, yet heavy guitars. The intense lyric video guides the viewer through the mystical ambience of the sky and leverages the radiance of their mournful instrumental driven soundscapes.

Draconian on "Lustrous Heart":
"“Lustrous Heart“ is the first single of our new album Under A Godless Veil. This album is the most diverse album we've made so far and we've waited a long time to share it with the world. We hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do. Make sure to follow us on our social media for more news." More...

Rage Parts Ways With Guitarist

German metal veterans Rage has announced that they have parted company with guitarist Marcos Rodriguez, who has been part of the group since 2015. A statement from band leader Peavy reads as follows:

" Hi Rageheads, this is Peavy...

"....there are some changes coming up in the Rage Camp that I want to inform you about. Our friend and guitar player Marcos Rodriguez will not perform with Rage anymore due to personal and private reasons that make it necessary for him to move on.

"There are no bad feelings or arguments between us, we will continue being friends and we will surely continue making music together, just a bit more „behind the scenes". Life is changing constantly and so it is for us. As I want only the best for my friends, I accept his decision and wish him all the best for his future, so do all of us in the Rage Camp.

"At the same time I'm planning for the future of Rage! Now, I am thinking about upgrading the band into a four piece line up with two guitar men at my side! My vision is to get a perfect line up in the way Rage sounded in the 90`s, only better and at a modern level. We´re working hard right now to bring Rage on that new level! Very soon we will present you the retreaded shape of the Rage Metal institution!

"Watch out for upcoming news and stay healthy, so we can celebrate our favourite music and songs as soon as the corona crisis is under control...

"Your Metal brother... Peavy"
