Petition For Doom "Big Four" Tour Circulating

Smokin’ Johnny (apparently the same guy who’s responsible for the Danzig rumours) has created an online petition by asking its fans to help make a “Big 4 of Doom Metal” tour featuring Saint Vitus, Trouble, Pentagram and Candlemass happen. On why “The Big 4 of Doom Metal” tour should happen, the creator explains:

Since a Big 4 of thrash metal exists, how about a Big 4 of doom metal? Saint Vitus, Trouble, Pentagram and Candlemass all helped shape that genre and a Big 4 lineup featuring all of those bands would be one hell of a tour. They all excelled and made doom metal popular. Unlike the other three bands, Candlemass is from Sweden, but their music has become an important American phenomenon in over the last few decades, and yes, this is one reason why they’re in the lineup.

Over a two year period, from 1984 to 1986, all four of the Big 4 bands released defining debut albums; Saint Vitus released their eponymous album, Trouble released "Psalm 9," Pentagram released "Relentless" and Candlemass released "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus." Not only did all of those albums give the scene a united front and further the awareness of doom metal as a genre, but they would influence and inspire many well-known later musicians.

Another thing in common about Saint Vitus, Trouble, Pentagram and Candlemass is that they all cite Black Sabbath as an influence. Candlemass recorded a track called “Black Sabbath Medley” on their 1988 album “Ancient Dreams," which is composed of both parts and lyrics to many of their songs, while Saint Vitus named themselves after a song from Black Sabbath’s 1972 album Vol. 4 called “St. Vitus’ Dance”. Seeing Saint Vitus, Trouble, Pentagram and Candlemass tour together would be such an honor. We, as fans, would love to thank all of them for their hard work and all the classics they’ve been putting out since the 1980's.

If you think the tour should happen, go here to sign the petition. “The Big 4 of Doom Metal” also has a Facebook page, go here to 'like' it.

A Hero A Fake Announces New Album

Charlotte, North Carolina act A Hero A Fake has announced the band's third album, "The Future Again," will see release on July 17th, 2012.

This most recent accomplishment was recorded by Jamie King (Between The Buried and Me, Wretched) at The Basement Recording NC, who also recorded the band's two previous Victory Records releases, "Volatile" (2008) and "Let Oceans Lie" (2010). Cameron Mizell completed the mixing and Joey Sturgis did the mastering.

Guitarist Eric Morgan commented, “This album started from scratch, which was quite refreshing as the previous two albums were taken from material I had written when I was 18. Evan Kirkley re-joined us on Drums and is incredible along with the addition of Chris Rosser on bass who contributed greatly to the writing process. Our goal was to make our ideas as massive, forceful, and engaging as possible and we couldn't be more excited about how the new songs turned out. It took over a year of writing and reworking before we were able to bring the new songs into the studio, and it was that extra time that helped in defining our new direction.”

A Hero A Fake will be on tour this summer and throughout the year and pre-order packages for "The Future Again" are available through the Victory Records webstore here.

Waylander Releasing Fourth Album

Freshly mastered at the Finnox studio in Finland (Children of Bodom, Nightwish), Irish folk metal band Waylander is releasing its brand new and fourth full-length album "Kindred Spirits" on July 16th (EU) and August 14th (North America). The band gave an in-depth commentary about the lyrics for album's the two first songs - "Echoes of the Sidhe" and "Lamh Dearg," which follows below before the tracklisting and cover art for Waylander's "Kindred Spirits."

"Echoes of the Sidhe" - Deals with the enduring fascination in Celtic countries with the Sidhe/the Fairy folk/Tuatha De Danann, which has survived the coming of Christianity as well as the modern age of enlightenment. The belief in the old Gods and the existence of higher plains of existence has endured and will continue to do so.

"Lamh Dearg" - Meaning red hand, the symbol of the northern province of Ulster of which N. Ireland makes up two thirds. For the first time since our debut demo, the conflict in N. Ireland is used as subject matter for one of our songs. This song is about love for the land which transcends politics, where the land itself is sacred while mankind is merely the custodian for the generations to come. Concentrate on what unites us, as it's a lot more than people have knowledge off due to a blinkered mindset. In effect this song is a modern pagan perspective on the conflict we have endured.

1. Echoes of the Sidhe
2. Lámh Dearg
3. Twin Fires of Beltíne
4. Of Fear and Fury
5. Grave of Giants
6. A Path Well Trodden
7. Quest for Immortality
8. Erdath
9. Kindred Spirits

Black September Recording New Album

Chicago's Black September has started recording the band's sophomore album, "Into The Darkness Into The Void," due out this fall.

The album is being tracked in the band's hometown with Andy Nelson at Bricktop Recording (Weekend Nachos, Veil of Maya), the same studio where Black September recorded the debut full-length, "The Forbidden Gates Beyond," which Decibel praised for its "savage riffing and elemental leads."

According to guitarist C.M., "This record enters the depths of our past while retaining the fire from 'The Forbidden Gates Beyond.' One step beyond our previous efforts into a realm of untamed energy. Ravenous and pure.“

Further details will be announced as they are made available.

Felix Martin Signs With Prosthetic Records

Prosthetic Records has issued the following announcement about inking a deal with Felix Martin:

"Prosthetic Records is proud to announce the signing of Venezuelan guitarist Felix Martin. A graduate of the prestigious Berklee School of Music, Martin writes and performs an eclectic, exhilarating hybrid of instrumental prog-metal, jazz, fusion and world music on an instrument he invented himself – the 14-string guitar. His creation combines two left-handed 7-string guitars on one wide neck that allows him to play both guitars simultaneously, allowing for his unique system of 8-finger chords and slap-tapping techniques."

Martin commented on signing to Prosthetic by stating the following: “For me, the most important concepts in music (and life) are innovation and creativity. Prosthetic is one of the very few labels that works with artists who have unique visions of music, and who offer something different to the world. I can’t be more thankful with Prosthetic for supporting my vision and letting me be myself.”

Martin's Prosthetic debut, “Live in Boston,” will be released across digital platforms on June 5th. Physical copies are available for pre-order now at this location. The album, which features Guitar Center Drum-Off 2011 Champion JP Bouvet on several tracks, includes material from Martin's self-released debut, “Bizarre Rejection,” a handful of songs from his forthcoming studio album, and two tracks exclusive to this release.

Guitarworld.com has exclusively premiered a live video for the track “The Triangle Tune,” which can be seen here. The song, which sees Martin backed by Bouvet and fellow Berklee alumnus Kilian Duarte, will also be included on Martin's as-yet-untitled sophomore album, which will feature Berklee alum Nathan Navarro (bass) and acclaimed drummer Marco Minnemann (Necrophagist, Steven Wilson, The Aristocrats). More information on that release will be revealed in the coming months.

Today, Martin embarks on a 7-week European tour, which will see his trio play a mixture of clinics and "traditional" concerts. More...

The Dogs Divine Releases New Video

"It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." That phrase seemed so appropriate that The Dogs Divine titled the band's second album "Size of the Fight." Founded in 2007, the band quickly went to work creating music and after playing only one show was signed to Chavis records to release a debut album in the summer of 2008. Fast forward to today and you will find a much more impressive effort in "Size of the Fight" (reviewed here).

Today Noisecreep is hosting an exclusive stream of the bands new video for the track "Hell Wouldn't Have Me." Get a first look at the video at this location.

"We didn't worry about genres or trends, we just wanted to write something that had all the elements of a great Rock album" says vocalist Tom Hart, "We wanted to have a instrumental, we wanted to remake a classic song like we did with 'I'm in love with my car.' We didn't want just a collection of songs that all sounded the same." More...

Holy Moses Added To The Barge To Hell

The organizers of the Barge to Hell have issued the following announcement about confirming Holy Moses as the latest act to play the cruise:

"Who better to lead them on their journey to the undead than the mighty Holy Moses celebrating their 30th anniversary? Not once, because as you know, they do everything twice. You heard right, twice! Here is how it goes: On December 3rd, 40 of the most extreme Metal Bands and 2,000 headbangers from around the world will go to the Caribbean to take over a luxury cruise ship for a 5 day and 4 night trip to the undead! For the entire trip it's like everyone has a backstage pass and you can mingle side-by-side with the Artists in this incredibly fan-friendly scenario that has no comparison. See each of the 40 bands play two live shows on two different days. That's 80 shows with unrestricted festival access to the three stages, each with it's own unique atmosphere:

"The luxurious 'A Chorus Line' theater where they spare no expense to have the benches removed on the floor. Because at a Metal show, who actually wants assigned seating in front of the stage?

"The cozy 'Spectrum' that gives you the real club feeling.

"And their jewel: The open air stage on the pool deck. The biggest festival stage to sail the Oceans.

"You can also get all your memorabilia signed at the Meet & Greet sessions. Be part of their infamous Metal Karaoke and many other special activities with the Artists. And last, but not least: Don't forget that they have bars on board that never close! What are you waiting for? You might even need a vacation from this vacation when all is said and done."

Vocalist Edu Falaschi announced that he has departed Brazilian power/progressive metal band Angra. He also announced that Felipe Andreoli is no longer with his band Almah. Falashi posted the following note on his official website:

"Dear friends, fans and partners,

"There comes a moment in a man’s life when it is necessary to make a radical decision in order to move forward with dignity and renewed energy.

"I’m in a very happy moment, where now, at age 40, I’m fulfilled and incredibly satisfied to have succeeded in making almost all my personal and professional dreams come true.

"I have a beautiful family, many wonderful friends and fans who have followed me for over 20 years and a lasting career with more than 15 albums released, several world tours and thousands of copies sold worldwide.

"I am a lucky person to have made ?it this far, singing Heavy Metal and been around the planet playing the music I love the most.

"I've been thinking for some time now, about the path to follow and finally came to the conclusion that it is time to take the more natural road.

"It is with a mixture of relief, joy and sadness that I have to declare that from today on I am not the voice of ANGRA anymore, I'm leaving the band already missing a lot of what we built together, specially the happy times of Rebirth and Temple of Shadows. I will never forget everything that we experienced from good to bad times, after all we must always look at the good side of things, even when things are most difficult.

"I am eternally grateful for those 10 years of many victories and for all the opportunities given to me, I wish them luck on their journeys.

"Whenever they want or need I will be around and ready to support them! I am and will always be very proud of our history! My life is music and music is the food to my soul. I have many plans and projects for the future! Some of them are already well established, strong and generating excellent results and so, they demand and deserve my full dedication, and of all the people involved in it. That's why I also want to announce that Felipe Andreoli is not the Almah's bass-player anymore! He will keep working only with Angra and his other projects!

"I will go on with my ideals and my career as a singer, songwriter and producer. Thank you all, with love...

The band stands only for black metal, and black metal is extreme music, not politics. Closing, anyone who is into the extreme music and thematology, but for any reason feels shocked or offended by non-extreme views and/or beliefs, is not of our concern."
