Unearthing The Metal Underground: Armnatt

There’s something to be said for the concept of "less is more," and when that no-frills approach works in any sphere of life, the results can be impressive. Portugal’s black metal entity Armnatt adheres to that practice, and it keeps it simple for the better. The ensemble has forwarded its old guard-friendly black metal since 2013, around the time of its split cassette release with Bosnian act Tmärrdhë. Signal Rex is now poised to release Armnatt’s third full-length album, “Eternal Flame,” on May 28. More...

Deathchant Releases New Music Video

L.A. quartet Deathchant share a wild video from their forthcoming sophomore album "Waste" today via Revolver Magazine. "Waste" is the band's debut on RidingEasy Records. Watch and share "Holy Roller" below.

Heavy music’s evolution has always been a murky swamp of sub-genres. So, combining Thin Lizzy’s glistening twin guitar harmonies with Melvins-grade sludge and a hearty dose of proto-metal psych probably shouldn’t sound so revolutionary as it does in the hands of L.A. quartet Deathchant. But theirs is a special, transcendent sound.

"Waste," the band’s sophomore album and first for RidingEasy Records, is anything but. The 33-minute, 7-song blast flows seamlessly from song to song, aided by droning segues, while simultaneously slithering between genres and moods. Rumbling noise, chiming guitar melodies, bluesy boogie, NWOBHM thrash, COC grunge and punk fury all rear their head at times, sometimes all at once. More...

Osiah Posts New Music Video Online

Undoubtably one of the UK's most ferociously dark bands, Osiah, have released a soul-stirring new music video for their album track "The Ominous Mind (Jaded Inside)."

Taken from their album "Loss," which was recently released on 7th May to worldwide critical acclaim via Unique Leader Records, you can now experience the video below.

Following on from singles 'Temporal Punishment' and 'The Eye of the Swarm (feat. Ben Duerr)', 'The Ominous Mind (Jaded Inside)' is another striking declaration of resolve from one of the hardest working bands on the circuit, showcasing their more sombre side whilst firmly establishing their prominence at the top of the new breed of deathcore hierarchy.

Speaking of their newest video Osiah shared: "The Ominous Mind (Jaded Inside) is our third single, representing the more melodic and groove elements of Osiah, and also showcasing some of Ricky’s most pain fuelled lyrics that dominate this release."

Vocalist Ricky Roper added: "It’s one of the most pained tracks on the record; recording it was an experience I’ll never forget. During the end section I was literally screaming my pain out, I don’t think I’ve ever been as low as I was at that point of recording, and the melodic section that guitarist Andy Mallaby provided really brought it out of me. I can still hear it when I listen back and it serves as a reminder of where I’ve clawed my way back from."

A recent interview with Ricky Roper conducted by Metal Underground can also be found below. More...

Gost Shares New Music Video "Coven"

As a first taste of "Rites of Love and Reverence," that is due for a release on Friday 13th August, Gost is allowing for a deep dive into the aesthetics and concept of the upcoming album. Watch the video for "Coven" below.

Gost about the song and video that he created himself: "‘Coven’ is a piece which seemed to write itself, flowing almost effortlessly from some unexplainable source. This song is told from the perspective of a persecuted witch who is proud of her coven and will die before she betrays her sisters. In memory of the many victims throughout history, by which mere accusations of witchcraft condemned the innocent to death."

"Rites of Love and Reverence" is both an album of beautifully crafted songs and a fascinating and intuitively gothic journey, rich with thoughts of supernatural wickedness and real world retribution.

"The lyrics were inspired by witchcraft themes," says Gost. "It’s mainly about how witchcraft has affected women throughout history. Witch trials and the subsequent executions throughout the ages terrify me. I fear, as a society, we are always on the verge of such horrible psychosis based on the misunderstanding and intolerance of one another. I try to educate myself on any historical subject I use as an influence, out of respect for the real people who actually lived through it." More...

Subterranean Masquerade Release New Music Video

Israeli progressive metal outfit Subterranean Masquerade has released the official video for "Somewhere I Sadly Belong." The song precedes the arrival of the band’s fourth LP, "Mountain Fever," which will be released Friday (May 14th) through American prog powerhouse, Sensory Records.

One of Mountain Fever’s most explosive tracks, “Somewhere I Sadly Belong” features guest vocals from Ashmedi Melechesh of Mesopotamian black metal band Melechesh and gospel choir vocals by British Singer Jackie Hole. The song comes to life through an official video directed and filmed by Yalon Schori and Yoni Sherman Heschel and edited by Yalon Schori.

Subterranean Masquerade’s lead vocalist Davidavi Dolev reveals, "This one is extremely dear to us and might be one of the most personal songs on the album. It's about history, but also about history in the making. The song is dedicated to all people in refuge and exile. I would also like to dedicate it to my grandmother. We used sign language in the chorus of the video to symbolize the deafness of our society towards those who are in need. It's about roots, identity, love, guilt, trauma, immigration, and wars. Are we going to make it? In order to bring our complete vision to life we were extremely honored to host Ashmedi Melechesh, who is the original source of extreme metal in the Middle East, who really brought to the song the spirit we were looking for."

An interview with Davidai Dolev, as well as guitarist Tomer Pink, conducted by Metal Underground, can also be seen below. More...
