Underdark Reveals Debut Album Details

After forming in 2015, Nottingham based black metallers Underdark are finally ready to present their debut album to the world. Following their recent "Plainsong?/With Bruised & Bloodied Feet" single release in 2020, "Our Bodies Burned Bright on Re-Entry" is the sound of a new chapter of Underdark, set for release on 30th July via Surviving Sounds (UK), Through Love Records (EU) and Tridroid Records (US/CAN).

While still utilising a dreamlike and heavy mixture of black-metal, post-metal and shoegaze, Underdark’s debut album also packs a renewed punch alongside a ferocity and intensity matched only by the innovative and engaging song structures.

Recorded & mixed with Misha Herring at Holy Mountain Studio (40 Watt Sun, Inhuman Nature, Idles, Spiritualised, Puppy) & mastered by Adam Gonsalves at Telegraph Mastering (Emma Ruth Rundle, Southern Lord Records, Power Trip, Mizmor), the album captures five tracks of intense & emotional progressive compositions, not limited by genre to create a tidal wave of sound; that shift in emotions, drowning you between sections of crushing blast beats and ear splitting vocals to blissful, atmospheric soundscapes that engulf you within them.

On first single "Coyotes" vocalist Abi comments:

"THE ALBUM IS READY. You thought we were dead. At times, we thought we might be too, but we're here, we're (mostly) alive, and this is 'Coyotes.' It's one of the first songs I wrote in Underdark and it's about the ongoing humanitarian crisis at the Mexico/US border. Hope you're as stoked on it as we are." More...

Xalpen Signs With Black Lodge Records

Xalpen inks a record deal with Black Lodge Records. The Chiliean black metallers are working on new material to be released in a not too distant future. But first up is the remastered album ’Sawken Xo´on‘ set for release on the 30th of July 2021 on both vinyl, CD and digital.

Xalpen comments: "We are sincerely honored and very motivated about this alliance, it is and we know, much more to unveil in our path to approach the respectful listeners, hungry daemons, thirsty witches, psychotic entities and all the spiritual voyagers of this black trip, to the mysteries of the ancient era of pan-dimensional shamans and Dark Gods, building the strong bridges that transgressive music and chaotic forces creates, to fulfill the secret and obscure essence of Xalpen.

"We also, with no doubts, will support expectations and goals the band and Label will have for the upcoming time. For now, It's a good start for more concrete plans, to set some live performances, possible further shows and/or even organize some tours dates for the uncertain future of this world."

Axel Rudi Pell To Release Second Covers Album

German hard rock guitar wizard Axel Rudi Pell has finished recording and mixing his latest album "Diamonds Unlocked II," set for release on July 30th 2021 on Steamhammer/SPV. The successor to last year‘s top 5 album "Sign Of The Times" is the follow-up to his 2007 cover recording "Diamonds Unlocked." Pell‘s carefully considered decision not to release brand-new material for the first time in almost 15 years is mainly based on the ongoing pandemic and current restrictions on live concerts. The 61-year-old explains that "it makes no sense at all to put out new songs that we will not be able to perform live."

Axel Rudi Pell had been flirting with the concept of "Diamonds Unlocked II" for two or three years, and he‘s also aware of the vast number of cover versions currently floating on the Internet, which he sees as a challenge. Of course it depends on the selection and variety of the material, but first and foremost it is the transformation of each individual track that matters. The result is so outstanding that he is justly proud of his latest offering. "Without patting myself on the back too loudly – this is an album worth listening to from start to finish." Instead of delivering every single note so that it sounds exactly like the original, a cover album should, above all, be fun. And entertain and inspire the listener, an audio algorithm which makes you get out the original versions or the whole back catalogue of the artists presented. In this respect, "Diamonds Unlocked II" is an offer that no self-respecting hard rock fan can refuse

Scar Of The Sun Releases New Live Video

Hailing from Athens, Greece, modern metal outfit Scar Of The Sun will finally drop their anticipated upcoming third studio album, "Inertia," this Friday, May 14, 2021, via Napalm Records!

After releasing the first powerful harbinger, "I Am The Circle," followed by exciting title anthem, "Inertia," the unit now sets free "Quantum Leap Zero II: Transition To Turbulence," along with an captivating live video that was recorded when Scar Of The Sun supported the mighty Rotting Christ in Athens on the last show before the pandemic hit with undeterrable force. The song marks the second installment in the album’s "Quantum Leap Zero" trilogy and wanders between harsh elements and intense, almost calm moments, giving way to singer Terry Nikas’ hard-hitting lyrics and showcases Scar Of The Sun’s multifaceted nature, stirring up the anticipation for Inertia even more.

Scar Of The Sun’s Terry Nikas adds:
"The third video of Inertia, second installment of the ‘Quantum Leap Zero’ trilogy, ‘Transition To Turbulence’ is the most indicative song of the album in my eyes! This was filmed at our last show before COVID hit, a magnificent sold out show as direct support to the legendary Rotting Christ in front of 2,700 people in Athens, Greece. This is probably my favorite song on Inertia and definitely the one that I am most looking forward to playing live again when the time comes!"

A new interview conducted by Metal Underground with vocalist Terry Nikas can also be seen below. More...
