Theory Of A Deadman Announces New Album

Roadrunner recording group Theory Of A Deadman has unveiled details on new album “SaVages,” which arrives everywhere on July 8th.

“SaVages” is heralded by the fiery new single, “Drown,” a snippet of which can be heard below. Produced by longtime collaborator Howard Benson (Halestorm, My Chemical Romance), the single arrives at multi-format rock radio outlets across the country on April 22nd, the same day the track goes on sale on iTunes.

Tyler Connolly, vocalist and guitarist of Theory Of A Deadman commented, “We went back to where we belong on this record, back to the angst, back to the darkness. We veered off the road a bit on this one but it took us right to where we needed to be.”

Connolly expanded further on the band’s inspiration behind “Drown” stating, “‘Drown’ is about being alone, the feeling of being washed away and left to your own devices. We’ve all felt that way at some point in our lives; unable to stay afloat, we sink to the bottom which always seems easier in the end than fighting your way back to the surface.” More...

My Reflection Releasing New Single

Finnish female-fronted metal group My Reflection - which was covered in our look at the Helsinki metal scene - will release new single "This World Belongs To Us" on April 11th, 2014.

The single includes the tracks "This World Belongs To Us (Tonight)" and "Walk" and will see release via Inverse Records.

"This World Belongs To Us (Tonight)" also has a music video coming. “We felt that we have a killer song in our hands and it was natural to make a video for the song,” said Jenni Räikkönen, vocalist of My Reflection. “For us MR is about having fun and both song and video express that pretty well. 'Walk,' for its part, is a song about longing for good moments in the past.”

"This World Belongs To Us" differs musically from the debut album "Dreamland Drowning," which was released in 2012. “We value versatility, and therefore we don’t want to over-categorize our music," the band states.

Carcass Heartwork Plays on Heart Strings at Mohawk

The line to get into Mohawk was split in half between minors and adults. Although The Black Dahlia Murder has more than a decade under its 30-something beltline, the band is still a hot commodity among young listeners. The older demographic spawned by Carcass and Gorguts wasn't always welcoming to the 'core kids and their icons, TBDM; however, in terms of attendance, Decibel Magazine was onto something when they squeezed together, and I do mean squeeze, these disparate bands.

Baltimore, Maryland upstarts, Noisem provided a jolting dose of death/thrash. Featuring tracks culled from their recent "Agony Defied" album, the A389 recording artist played fast and spurned on oncoming body-mass wall. Standing on the first balcony, I often found myself checking out the bang bodies below. Long-hairs and spiked dos came together, often in a brutal-yet-loving fashion.

The album was produced by Pete Grossman (Harm's Way, Weekend Nachos) and mastered by Today Is The Day's Steve Austin (Converge, Unsane, Deadguy), and will be released May 27th as split release between The Path Less Traveled Records (CD and digital) and Threshold of Pain Records (vinyl). Dark Buddha Rising Signs To Neurot

The ritualistic doom practitioners who make up Dark Buddha Rising are Neurot Recordings' latest signees. The label comments:

"Hailing from Finland and with four albums already under their belt (most recently 2013's Dakhmandal), Dark Buddha Rising conjures psychedelic sprawling space jams made up of expansive yet concentrated bellows of decaying distortion and broken-signal analog bleeps, cannoning across antimatter, and presented with staggering finesse."

Comments the band: "We are more than honored to be a part of the Neurot family. Their music has torn wounds so deep, they still bleed the black blood of inspiration. We share the profound principle towards music as necessity of our existence in this universe. To proceed into the last cycle of the Ennealogy with Neurot Recordings is a predestined path to spread the art of black psychedelia."

Adds Neurot Recordings' Steve Von Till: "Dark Buddha Rising are one of the darkest, trance-inducing bands I have ever witnessed. Neurosis was lucky enough to play several shows with them last year and each night I was completely hypnotized. This is true ritual music that should not be taken lightly. This is a deep, introspective conjuring of those aspects of ourselves that are uncomfortable to come face to face with, but necessary if we are to grow. We feel very lucky to be able to work with them on their next sonic rite." More...

Machine Head Announces New European Shows

After announcing an 11 date U.S. club tour specifically aimed at smaller markets, Machine Head is now proud to announce the first round of tour dates in 2014 for the U.K. and Europe.

The 15 date "Killers & Kings Tour" will serve as an album primer for more dates this Winter, but more importantly will hit numerous cities that Machine Head hasn't headlined in for over a decade, or in several cases, never even played at all.

Says vocalist / guitarist Robb Flynn: "In keeping with the intimate club tour-vibe we are doing in the USA this summer, for our first time ever, we decided to blow off 90% of all Euro summer festivals, and hit the nooks and crannies of the UK and Europe as well. We will be doing no major cities in any territories throughout Europe and the UK for this first leg of 2014.

"No London, no Berlin, etc, and instead focusing on the die-hard Machine Head ans that who don't often get the chance to see us because the travel is too far or too costly to get the big cities.

"I remember when we were out with Metallica doing festivals a few years ago, we played in a small out-of-the-way city in Denmark called Aarhus, we'd never played there let alone, ever even heard of the fucking place. We were all a bit grumbly before the show, and you know what? It ended up being one of the funnest shows we've ever done. Doing shows like this, it creates an energy, it creates a bond, something unbreakable, and it is really fucking fun. It's Machine Head without all the big production, the bells and whistles, stripped down and raw. More...

Diabolical Releases New Music Video

Today, Swedish death metal masters Diabolical premiere new video "Oracle," available below (thanks to Terrorizer.com). Guitarist Carl Stjärnlöv comments:

"The concept of the ‘Oracle’ song and the Oracle chapter of the Book of Neogenesis is very special. It has a deep meaning to the concept of Neogenesis and it represents a turning point in the story of the protagonist. The chapter and the song take place in a mystical place full of symbolism and we wanted to stay true to the arcane nature of the song in its visual representation. We filmed in several countries and have put a lot of effort into making this a very pleasant visual experience which we hope you will appreciate."

"Neogenesis" is the latest record from Diabolical and comes with a book written by Carl Stjärnlöv with each chapter represented by a song on the album. Diabolical is about to embark on a European headline tour which will take the band through Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Austria, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany. Dates are available after the jump. More...

Stoneburner Streaming Full Album Online

In celebration of its upcoming North American release, today Stoneburner has teamed up with Decibel Magazine to offer up a full stream of "Life Drawing."

The Portland-based sludge smith's new album will be unveiled in North America via Neurot Recordings on April 15th, 2014 (April 14th in the UK/EU).

The album was recorded, mixed, and produced by Fester at Haywire Studios. Mastering was handled by Adam Gonsalves at Telegraph Mastering and the release features a glut of guest vocalists including Krysta Martinez (Transient, Landmine Marathon), Benjamin Caragol (Burials, Hang the Old Year), and Joshua Greene (Bastard Feast, Ephemeros).

Comments the band, "In the time that we've spent creating this monster we've gotten very high, and fallen very low. We've spent days blinded by love and light, and more than a few nights wandering in the dark, raging at the stars. Over the last couple of years we've forged friendships, made enemies, hated our jobs, had loved ones die, seen each other through loss, and laughed at our failures. If you take the time to listen you'll hear it all in there somewhere; as raw, ugly, and honest as we know how to be. And fuck it all anyways. This works better than therapy." More...

As I Lay Dying Responds To Unauthorized Statement

Earlier today a statement was posted online which appeared to come from the members of As I Lay Dying updating the band's status while Tim Lambesis awaits sentencing for attempting to hire a hit man to murder his ex-wife.

Now guitarist Nick Hipa has announced via his Facebook page that the statement - despite being written in the third person about Tim Lambesis and seeming to come from Jordan Mancino - was actually written by Tim himself.

While the content of the message about the other members moving forward with different projects was apparently correct, the rest is not as clear. Nick comments:

"Good day friends,

"This morning an update was posted over at www.asilaydying.com on the current happenings and individual futures of all the bands' members. For Jordan, Josh, Nick, Phil, management, and record label, this was an interesting first time read as all parties were oblivious to its construction, intent, and release.

"Though Tim is the only one with access to the As I Lay Dying site, the rest of us have been releasing content through our personal social media accounts to reveal that we are carrying on in a new band. Our truest intentions were to make this unveiling interesting and exciting for anyone who has supported us over the past year. With information so instantaneous and disposable these days, we had hoped to show you how things were coming together rather than simply tell you.

"We never want to capture attention dramatically, which is precisely why we've been off the radar for close to a year. Though the third-person statement released earlier compromises a lot of how we had hoped to unroll things, we remain positive in our outlooks and look forward to sharing new music soon.

"With love and gratitude,

"Jordan, Josh, Phil, Nick."

Annihilation Streaming "The Great Cycle"

In anticipation of the forthcoming EP "The Undivided," Portugal's Annihilation has teamed up with Terrorizer for a stream of the new song "The Great Cycle" (available below).

Band founder Fabio Da Silva had the following to say about the song: "The song describes the way that human beings are connected/linked with the universe. When the 7 chakras are in perfect alignment and in balance with the cosmos, it empowers us and allows us to reach a much higher state of consciousness. But the powers that be do not want an empowered human race and so they try to break/disrupt that cycle/balance making the human race suffer and to lose balance."

Blood Red Fog To Release "On Death's Wings"

Saturnal Records has set May 26th as the international release date for Blood Red Fog's third album, "On Death's Wings." You can check out the advance track "Blazing Star" below, and the following press release was also issued about the band:

"Formed in 2004, the first Blood Red Fog demo was recorded in the spring of 2005. This demo and a rehearsal tape recorded soon after led to a deal with Finnish underground label Grievantee and a release of the self-titled debut album in 2006.

"Then the band excelled within the black metal underground and made several split releases with bands like Musta Kappeli, Cosmic Church, Funerary Bell, and Verge together with the Radiating Desolation mini-album (2008) and two EPs titled Death Cult I & II (2012). The long-anticipated second album, Harvest, was released six years after the debut, in 2012, showing a more versatile side of Blood Red Fog to the world.

"In 2014, the band signed to Finnish label Saturnal Records. The first manifestation of the deal is the release of the band's third full-length album, titled On Death's Wings - and never before have so rugged soundscapes, full of woe, better stated the band's magnitude as the channel of melancholic black metal.

"To be certain, Blood Red Fog plays melancholic, mid-tempo black metal inspired by bands like Burzum, Mutiilation, Drudkh, Satanic Warmaster, and Horna. The main non-musical inspiration of Blood Red Fog is death and its different ways of manifestation in the world."

The album's track listing is as follows:

1. Blazing Star
2. Black Hole Soul
3. Circle Of Resurrection
4. As Lightning from Heaven

Beastwars Re-Releasing Albums

New Zealand's Beastwars has announced that on June 9th the band is teaming up with Granite House Records to reissue the 2011 debut "Beastwars," and last year’s follow-up "Blood Becomes Fire," worldwide. The following press release was issued:

"With original pressings already commanding high figures among collectors of rare heavy metal vinyl, not only are these reissues welcomed news for anyone who missed out first time around, they will gives new fans a chance to discover the band’s one and only maxim: Obey The Riff.

"In 2011, Beastwars released their self-titled debut to critical acclaim and in doing so transformed New Zealand's music scene. Landing at #15 on the national charts, the band found themselves shortlisted for the Taite Music Prize and was twice nominated at the 2011 New Zealand Music Awards, winning Best Album Artwork via Nick Keller's otherworldly landscapes.

"Two years on from their internationally acclaimed debut, Beastwars returned in 2013 with Blood Becomes Fire. The album charted at #2 on the NZ charts (held off the top spot by Michel Bublé) and delivered ten songs retaining all the strength and psychedelic fire of their first while presenting a powerful evolution in vision. Where Beastwars' first album conjured tales of the end of days, it’s successor served as witness to the ensuing carnage, viewed through the eyes of a traveller from another time, as he faced his own demise. Blood Becomes Fire is a work of epic imagination that explores eternal themes and hammers each home with concussive force. More...

Johan Edlund Departs Tiamat?

The Tiamat Facebook page was updated last night with a message from front man Johan Edlund indicating he is leaving the band. Due to the humorous nature of the post, and the fact that nothing has been released from the band's management or label, it's not clear if it was serious or an attempt at a belated April Fool's joke. Johan writes:

"I have decided to leave Tiamat. My health etc.. Doesn't work anylonger. I say leave because I don't claim anything Tiamat. If the other guys wanna continue, fine.. Go ahead. Get a great good looking vocalist, sign to Century Media & just do it. But I'm out & not even interested apart from wishing all the best for the band.

"All contracts & such will be handed out to Anders, lars & Roger, if they're into it. I want nothing from this, I was spoiled too much of being an adult. Give someone a better chance. I will do the four festivals we have booked for the summer. Face it, there are other bands, plus even Tiamat might get better! Love my brothers & thank YOU for your support! KISSES!"

The band's latest full-length "The Scarred People" (reviewed here) was released in 2012, which follows the 2008 opus "Amanthes" (reviewed here).

As I Lay Dying Issues Band Update

Update: despite appearing to come from the other band members, this statement was apparently written by Tim Lambesis with no input from the other members of As I Lay Dying. Check out Nick Hipa's response over here.

With Tim Lambesis likely to be incarcerated for serious time in a murder-for-hire plot to kill his ex-wife, the future of As I Lay Dying seemed bleak.

As I Lay Dying has now checked in with the following update about the band's status and the members working on new projects:

"There have been a lot of questions from fans over the past year and we'll hopefully be able to provide more answers over time. However, this update is only to address things related to AILD's future.

"Originally, we said we'd update fans as soon as we knew more. We apologize for not sticking to that. It seemed best to wait until definitive news came in with a specific timeline. However, in light of speculation on other sites, an official update from As I Lay Dying seems to be the best way to clarify some things.

"A good starting point is to clarify some things that have often been falsely reported. Tim was not a Christian at the time of his arrest, nor was As I Lay Dying a Christian band in 2013. It hadn't been for some time and, to the best of my knowledge, only one of the people playing in the band even claimed to be a Christian at that time. The changed view had been written about it in a handful of As I Lay Dying songs and Tim's later atheistic view had even been documented in court records. However, it doesn't make as sensational of a headline to refer to the arrest of the 'Ex-Christian Metal Sub-Genre Independent Artist' as it does the 'Grammy Nominated Top 10 Selling Christian Rockstar' of the past.

"With all that said, we don't know how each musician from the previous era of As I Lay Dying will think about these topics in the future. For example, Tim has spent much of the last year reevaluating what originally convinced him to abandon belief in God. I have gathered that after much brokenness and repentance he sees things differently, considers himself a follower of Jesus, someone submitted to the will of God, or whatever you want to call it. That's for him to talk about when he's comfortable and only time will tell if he is sincere. What is certain though is that it's impossible to face the events of last year without being changed in some way. Let's let the guys focus on future music and hopefully the headline driven press will leave this issue alone for a while given some clarification. More...

Julius Seizure Releases New Music Video

Last week New Jersey-based melodic metal outfit Julius Seziure released new single "Sixth and Falling" along with a B-side, "Second Coming." The tracks are cut from the August 2013 release, "Trials." Now the band has released an official music video for "Sixth and Falling," which was directed by Patrick Canavan and can be seen below.

“Julius Seizure is one of those bands with unlimited energy, which is why I like working with them,” states director Patrick Canavan. “They got out of a five hour car ride with five guys crammed into one Jeep, and blew the crew and I away on the first take. You don't see guys with this level of intensity often.”

“The concept of this video revolves around a demon character named Rage. We see his awakening, and follow him through the night as he begins his hunt for human prey,” adds Patrick. “During this we will be flashing to another character I’ve been calling The Painter. His sanity level is dropping rapidly as he tries to finish his painting. I don't want to give anything away just yet, but I will say that Rage and The Painter will converge at the end for an intense closing scene.”

You can also see Julius Seizure live on these dates:

4/17 - Worcester, MA @ The Palladium - New England Metal and Hardcore Festival
4/30 - Clifton, NJ @ Dingbatz w/ Battlecross, Beyond Dishonor
5/10 - Trenton, NJ @ Championship Bar - Headbang For the Highway - Battle for Summer Slaughter Round 2 More...
