Ansur Sign To Nocturnal Art/Candlelight Records

Norwegian metallers ANSUR have inked a deal with Nocturnal Art Productions/Candlelight Records.

Ansur was formed in Drammen, Norway in 2003 as a young 3-piece band. The following winter Ansur recorded “Demo 2004”, which contained four tracks of more or less traditional black metal with a raw and characteristic sound. After the demo release, underground label Nerbilous Productions (South Korea) took interest in the band and offered to re-release the demo in a more official way. The demo was renamed “Carved in Flesh” officially re-released in 2005.

The line-up changed in the following year, with Stian Svenne joining on guitars and Glenn Ferguson on drums. Bass player Aslak A. Werme left the band, and vocalist Espen A. R. Aulie took up his duties. The band slowly went through changes musically, and they began to incorporate stronger progressive elements in addition to the black and death metal styles to create something more characteristic and unique. Ansur’s debut album, “Axiom,” was recorded in their own studio from July to December 2005. The material on Axiom varies from brutal tracks like “Earth Erasure” to more progressive ones like “The Axiom Depicted” and “Desert Messiah”. The conceptual lyrics are based on a chronological story and flow very well the epic and grand darkness of the album. The underground press has already had a taste of what’s to come. Norwegian online magazine Enslaved by Metal, quoted the Axiom as “…too impressive to avoid”, while Maelstrom Magazine said: "Axiom is an addictive mixture of mathematical patterns with the brilliantly subtle implementation of acoustic guitars that strongly add to clarity in sound and the sense of threat and disaster.” AllThingsMetal.com concluded with Axiom being “…a perfect mix of brains and artistic enjoyment.”

"Axiom" is due for worldwide release in the fall through Nocturnal Art Productions/Candlelight Records. More details will follow soon.

Interview with Christofer Johnsson of Therion

On Wednesday, September 14th I went to BBkings in New York City, NY to see Therion and Beyond the Embrace. Though it as been a while since the concert since I’ve been ill. I have finally been well enough and had the time to post this interview. I had the opportunity to interview guitarist and songwriter, Christofer Johnsson, of Therion. Talking with Christofer Johnsson gave me a lot of insight into my own song writing process. I felt such a musical connection I couldn’t provide much else to say except to stare and nod. He said things I think about all the time when I make music. In addition he gave me a different outlook on the purpose of creating music. I hope this interview gives some insight to you as a reader as it did for me as an interviewer. More...

Therion Engulf BBkings Into Their World

On Wednesday, September 14th I went to BBkings in New York City, NY to see Therion and Beyond the Embrace. As I walked into the venue as doors opened, I saw about six people standing around waiting for the concert to start. I met up with a friend and chilled until it started. What was scary was how we were the only people there until about 15 minutes before Beyond the Embrace took the stage. About 30 people showed up in those 15 minutes. I was scared that Therion drastically undersold the show. I was very wrong. By the time Beyond the Embrace finished the venue was packed. I didn’t even notice how many people were pouring in, since I was front row out of the three rows of people there. By the time Therion was playing I couldn’t move. Before Beyond the Embrace took the stage, I thought I saw Brian Fair from Shadows Fall hanging out at the bar, but wasn’t sure, so I went up to him and said, “Hey, what’s up”. Turns out it was him and he was cool. We had a short conversation because the concert started and it would be nearly impossible to hear each other. More...

On A Warpath Sign With Hand Of Hope Records

On A Warpath, hailing from Northern California's Bay area, are the latest edition to the Hand of Hope Records roster. The band formed in early 2005, but the members have known each other for years, growing up in the same neighborhood. On a Warpath cross old-style fast- and mid-tempos with today's beatdown breaks and gut-wrenching double bass. They credit their influences to thrash and hardcore music, including such seminal hardcore acts as Earth Crisis and Strife, as well as current bands like Hoods and Folsom. Their future plans include a July release and touring throughout the summer. You can check out some songs on their Myspace page.
