Pit Stories: Delain Offers To Sign Your Bruises!

Every week we check in with bands from across the globe to get their most memorable Pit Stories. Today Charlotte Wessels of symphonic outfit Delain checks in to share the lessons she's learned over the years in the pit, and to offer to sign any Metalunderground reader's mosh pit bruises! Charlotte had this to say:

My best moshing days were probably when I was between the ages of 14 and 17, so I believe I owe a lot to moshpit etiquette. Still, I had to learn a lot of things the hard way. For example the fact that I should rather stagedive backwards then forwards (that time my boobs landed exactly in my grinning friend’s perfectly cupped hands) and that All Stars are NOT moshpit sensible shoes (that time I didn’t notice I’d been jumping through broken beer bottles for two hours. Blood. Blood everywhere). Also, the fact that many musicians find it an awkward request if you ask them to sign your fresh bruises after a perfectly friendly violent pit.

Now, Delain’s audience is not the mosh-till-you-bleed type of crowd, nor are we the projectile-vomit-over-your-audience type of band - just picking up on two recurring themes in this website’s stories :) - but if anyone wants their mosh pit bruises signed after a show, be my guest! You earned those!

Delain's new album "The Human Contradiction" saw official release today in North America via Napalm Records. Pick up your own copy right here and check out the "Stardust" music video below. More...

Corrosion Of Conformity Announces New Album

Candlelight Records today confirms June 23rd as the European release date for "IX," the new album from Corrosion Of Conformity (June 24th in North America). Produced by the band and long-time comrade John Custer, the album and lead single “On Your Way” will be available for preorders via ITunes, Amazon, and other outlets beginning May 13th.

“The making of IX was drawn out because of us having to step away to do other projects,” comments vocalist Mike Dean. “I think being forced to step away kept us hungry and then being back on the case with deadlines casting a shadow gave us a ‘failure is no option’ vibe and that really helped the final product.”

“This album is another step forward for us,” adds guitarist Woodroe Weatherman. “It seems like we keep heading more and more toward our rawer live sound with the studio recordings.”

Corrosion of Conformity was also recently covered in our "Sunday Old School" column. Give it a read right here. More...

Internal Bleeding Signs To Unique Leader Records

Unique Leader Records is pleased to welcome New York-based death metal legion Internal Bleeding to the label's expanding roster of audio severity. Unique Leader comments:

"For over twenty years, Internal Bleeding has been at the forefront of the underground death metal scene, boasting a relentless DIY work ethic, consistently intense live performances and a commitment to composing some of the heaviest music possible, their breakdown-laden approach directly responsible for the establishment of an entire subgenre of death metal, aptly titled 'slam' (a term they began using as early as 1992).

"Founded in 1991 by guitarist Chris Pervelis following the demise of original band, Autumn Reign, it all began with a case of 300 blank tapes reportedly 'found' at a local university. The tapes provided the inspiration to set up a four-track to capture The One Dollar Demo. The following year, Internal Bleeding recorded their Invocation Of Evil demo, which went on to sell an impressive 5500+ copies through now-defunct Wild Rags Records. The band returned to the studio to track another demo in early 1994. The resulting Perpetual Degradation remains a certified classic in the annals of death metal. More...

Mind To Release New Album

Poland's Selfmadegod Records is proud to announce the upcoming third full-length release from German crust punk brigade, Mind. The label comments:

"Mind was formed in Berlin back in 1995 by Dzuma (ex-Toxic Bonkers, ex-Homomilitia, and recently the vocalist for Extreme Noise Terror) and Arek (Ebola). Over the years, the band has produced a variety of releases through underground and DIY labels, including the 1997 Inner Weakness 10", the New Homes For The Rich 5" EP, 2001's ...Your Own Business LP and split 7" releases with Distress and Inward.

"After over a decade of silence from Mind, the now multinational Polish/German duo returns, stronger than ever, with the crushing sounds of their third album, Save Yourself From Hell. With eight enraged new furious punk crust tracks in the vein of Doom, Extreme Noise Terror, Disrupt and early Toxic Bonkers, Save Yourself From Hell is a killer, modern take on a classic and influential genre. The album also includes iconic guest appearances by UK crust/grind vocalists Dean Jones of Extreme Noise Terror and Denis Boardman of Doom."

Opeth Reveals New Album Title, Release Date

Opeth has announced the release of eleventh studio album "Pale Communion," which arrives everywhere June 17th.

"Pale Communion," which was produced by band leader Mikael Åkerfeldt and mixed by longtime collaborator and Porcupine Tree frontman/guitarist Steven Wilson, will be heralded by the lead single, “Cusp of Eternity,” and available for pre-order starting Tuesday, May 6th.

Pre-orders made via the iTunes Store will receive an instant download of “Cusp of Eternity,” with multiple configurations also available via both the Roadrunner Records Webstore and O Merch.

The new material finds Opeth once again challenging the boundaries of extreme music. In a recent interview with Vice’s Noisey, Åkerfeldt stated, “I wanted to do something more melodic with this album…there’s stronger vocal melodies and more melodies overall…I was pretty consistent with that frame of mind throughout the writing process.”

Recently, Metal Injection’s Greg Kennelty broke down Pale Communion in a track-by-track review, exclaiming, “This record knows exactly what it's doing and nails it through and through…one of my favorite records of 2014. If not my favorite record of 2014.”

The track listing is as follows:

2. Cusp of Eternity
3. Moon Above, Sun Below
4. Elysian Woes
5. Goblin

Helstar To Headline Warriors Of Metal Fest VII

The Warriors of Metal, Inc., a non-profit organization, has announced that Texas Power/Speed Metal legends Helstar will headline the Saturday portion of the upcoming Warriors Of Metal Fest VII at O'Sheckys in Columbus, Ohio on June 27th-28th.

Vocalist James Rivera states: "Here I go again; round three for me to appear at Warriors of Metal Festival, at its new location O'Sheckys live in Columbus, Ohio! My first time performing at WOM was when Helstar headlined the fest in 2012 along with Manilla Road at its former grounds in Pataskala, Ohio. The band and I had an awesome experience our first time around, we were treated very well by the organizers Datis & Lea Alaee and their organization and given a warm welcome by the fans. Due to overwhelming popularity in the Midwest U.S. region and with veteran WOM festival goers, I was invited back as the headliner in 2013 to premiere my solo project, James Rivera. Once again, I received unbelievable treatment and to say the least, I'm always overly flattered by the kindness of everybody involved in WOM. Now I'll be returning for the seventh edition of WOM Fest with Helstar headlining on Saturday, June 28th, and there's no better time to have us back. We have a new album coming out on April 29th entitled 'This Wicked Nest,' which will be on the streets for two months by the time we hit the stage at WOM. I feel it's the strongest Helstar record to date and will embrace all Helstar fans, old and new, throughout the decades. We even went as far as writing an instrumental to please the neoclassical metal admirers, which features guitarist extraordinaire Jeff Loomis (Nevermore, Sanctuary, Conquering Dystopia). More...

In The Trenches - Winds of Plague's Andrew Glover

Andrew Glover’s been making records that you may have heard now for about six years, although you might not know him for that particular skill. This is probably because he’s also the very visible bassist in Winds of Plague when he’s not down at Sound Temple Studio in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Largely responsible for the actual sound of the finished product, Andrew has been flexing his audio engineer muscles (working those ears and that computer keyboard!) to not only make professional modern productions, but to highlight what the bass guitar is capable of within the heavy framework of metal.

Having recently wrapped up a 2-day live seminar with CreativeLive on the essentials of recording bass guitar (which can be viewed here), Glover took some time to answer a few questions from Metal Underground to enlighten readers on the subject. More...
