Extrema Posts Judas Priest Cover Online

During their studio sessions for their latest album "Headbanging Forever," Italian groove thrash metallers Extrema recorded a cover version of Judas Priest's "The Ripper." Adding to the cover track's release, with their home country of Italy hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, Extrema will be donating all profits from downloads and streams to the Italian Civil Protection, who are the frontlines in the battle against this virus, coordinating the nation’s pandemic response with Italy’s Ministry of Health.

Mastermind and guitar player Tommy Massara comments:

"Our cover of ‘The Ripper’ was originally conceived as a bonus track of 'Headbanging Forever' for the Japanese market. As we did not find the sought license in Japan, the song was closed in a drawer. To me, Coronavirus is like Jack the Knife hitting you from behind, so I felt the need to release the song as a digital single. All the royalty’s proceeds will be donated to the Italian Civil Protection. I discussed it with Gabri, Frullo, and Tiziano, and they accepted enthusiastically. I hope you enjoy our version of this timeless Judas Priest’s classic hit."

Extrema’s singer Tiziano "Titian" Spigno adds:

"This emergency, which arrived in the midst of our Italian tour, caught everyone unprepared. During these times music, books, movies, and art in general, although so badly affected, in many cases are a refuge for those people isolated at home, managing to get a few moments of serenity. Extrema want to contribute with this cover, recorded during the recording session of 'Headbanging Forever.'" More...

Krokus Postpones North American Tour Dates

Much like many other bands around the world, Swiss heavy metal/hard rock legends Krokus has announced that they have had to cancel their scheduled to tour of North America. Says the band:

"Due to the current state of things going on, it was both nearly impossible to get all the needed pieces to fall in line to do the tour and with the uncertainty of the immediate future of live music in North America. We felt it was best to postpone the tour this fall and look for a more appropriate time to finally return to the USA/Canada to kick your ass on the farewell tour.

"We hope things change and we will work with our team to insure the next tour will be 100% safe and sound. We love you all."

Frozen Soul Signs With Century Media

Dallas, Texas’ Frozen Soul lives up to its name as death metal at its coldest and most classic. Now, having stirred the underground with their four song demo-turned-EP "Encased In Ice" (via California’s Maggot Stomp Records) and a string of unforgettable live shows across the US, Frozen Soul have inked a worldwide deal with Century Media Records.

"As I've grown and gotten further and further into heavy music, Century Media's rich history in death metal has played a huge role in developing me as a musician: from Grave and Deicide to Blood Incantation and Skeletal Remains we’re honored to be part of that legacy," says frontman Chad Green.

Formed in 2018 by Green and guitarist Michael Munday, who were both also handling caveman duties with local bonecrushers, End Times, Frozen Soul immediately picked up a buzz for their filthy, raw sounds and atmospheric live show. Shows opening for Blood Incantation, Gatecreeper, and Obituary helped usher the band into the national light as crowds were left stunned in the band’s icy wake, chilling blue lights and a snow machine addled atmosphere that chilled the Dallas heat. With only their EP to their name, Frozen Soul (its lineup now rounded out by bassist Samantha Mobley, second guitarist Chris Bonner and drummer Matt Dennard) hit the road in North America throughout 2019 as well as the dead of Winter 2020, converting crowds much like the march of Game of Thrones’ Night King. Ahab Posts New Live Video Online

Nautic funeral doom heavyweights AHAB have released the first single “Old Thunder” off their first live album, Live Prey, to be released on June 26th, 2020 via Napalm Records.

Originally released in 2006 on the band's pathbreaking full length, The Call of the Wretched Sea, this blackened doom anthem will take you on a thunderous journey between slow-motion grooves, big riffs, haunting melodies accented by the guttural vocals of Daniel Droste, and an apocalyptic sound as you would experience it front row at an AHAB show! “Old Thunder” is accompanied by a music video that contains loads of live and off stage footage, as well as touring snapshots, highlighting the bands message: It's a big “thank you” to all of their fans and supporters worldwide who have joined the band in their funeral doom journey throughout the past 15 years!

Drummer Cornelius Althammer on “Old Thunder”:
"Throughout the last 15 years, we’ve gained a lot of experience, on and off stage, to create the incomparable AHAB sound and feeling. “The Hunt” is probably one of our most classic picks to choose, but with a length of nearly 17 minutes, it simply blows up the playtime of a regular single even more than other songs. So, here you go! Except the length, “Old Thunder” is in no way inferior to “The Hunt” – thank you all for so many years of loyalty. Without YOU, we wouldn't be the same band now!" More...

Firewind Posts New Music Video Online

Greek power metal veterans Firewind has uploaded a new music video for the song, "Welcome To The Empire." You can check it out below. The song is the second track from the band's forthcoming self-titled album, out May 15th through AFM, to receive the music video treatment, following "Rising Fire."

Founder/guitarist Gus G. states: "'Welcome To The Empire' is the opening track of the album and an obvious choice for a single. Making the video was an ongoing work in progress as we filmed the band performance back in January. However, we wanted to blend in futuristic visual effects for the story and as I'm a huge sci-fi movie fan, I wanted to incorporate something along those lines. Our director Panagiotis Kountouras came up with the concept and we collaborated with MDP, a vfx company out of Hollywood, CA. The story is set in a dystopia, where humanity has been surrendered to the New World Order. Two cyborgs are playing with the future of mankind in a chess game. Each move has consequences and technology will be the only winner. It was a really challenging production, but we love the end result. We hope you will too!" More...
