Pit Stories: Don't Piss Off The Vocalist

With digital music readily available through services like Bandcamp and iTunes, heavy metal is now readily available everywhere from your phone to your computer, but that hasn't stopped the live show from being the heart of the scene. That's why every week we check in with musicians from across the globe to get their favorite stories from live performances.

As any regular show-goer knows, you shouldn't piss off the band unless you've got the balls to throw down or the numbers to back you up and out-shout the vocalist. From Dave Mustaine's infamous rants, Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age chucking things at audience members, and Bruce Dickinson's viral anti-pot tirade, many fans have made the mistake of ticking off a front man during a set.

Today Johnny Gorilla from The Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell shares this tale of his own back and forth with a crowd heckler:

We played in Scotland with Orange Goblin to a sold out King Tut's and this Russian guy calls me a cunt! He didn't remember meeting me the night before in a bar coz he was so pissed drunk. I stopped the gig and got the whole crowd to call him a cunt, by name. He looked like he was gonna cry.

Also a guy called "Scabby Dave" used to sit in front of us picking the scabs and eating them while we played! TASTY!!!

Admiral Sir Cloudsely Shovell's new album "Check 'em Before You Wreck 'em" was released earlier this month, and a music video off the album can be seen below.

Also be sure to check in next week for more Pit Stories, and let us know your favorite tale of a heckler getting called out during a set! More...

Cemetery Lust Reveals Album Details

Hells Headbangers has set June 24th as the release date for Cemetery Lust's label debut, "Orgies of Abomination." The label comments:

"Following on from their cult debut Screams of the Violated, to be reissued later this year by Hells Headbangers, 'Orgies of Abomination' sees these Portland sleaze-bangers perfecting their vile, violent craft. Fittingly titled, Orgies of Abomination is a veritable smorgasbord of lyrical depravity, ably backed up by filthy, feral thrash metal that equally nods to '80s German proto-black, San Francisco speed metal, and even South American proto-death, all done with devilish glee. These songs stick in your head, and then Cemetery Lust explodes right out of it, cremating all party-thrash pretenders. Right from the beginning until the bloody end, Cemetery Lust demand you partake in Orgies of Abomination!"

The track listing is as follows:

1. Inhumane Indulgence (Intro)

Queensryche Name Dispute Settled Outside Of Court

According to the Seattle Times, and confirmed and shared via the band, the long standing battle over the name Queensryche was settled out of Court. The band consisting of Scott Rockenfield, Michael Wilton and Eddie Jackson along with Parker Lundgren and vocalist Todd La Torre will be the sole band with the right to operate and tour as Queensryche. Former vocalist Geoff Tate will pursue other endeavors, but retain the rights to "perform the concept albums 'Operation: Mindcrime' and 'Operation: Mindcrime II' in unique performances."

According to the article, a joint statement was issued, which states: "We wanted to let Queensryche fans around the world know that an amicable settlement has been reached between Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield, Michael Wilton and Geoff Tate with regard to the future of the Queensryche name."

Tate will do a brief Queensryche farewell tour this summer before launching a new chapter his career.

“It’s the rebirth of Queensryche and the way it used to be,” Wilton said by phone last night. “We’re rebuilding the Queensryche name.”

Tate stated: “One thing that’s really important for people to understand is that this never went to court. They (Wilton, Jackson and Rockenfield) bought the name from me. But I retain ‘Operation Mindcrime.’ It’s sort of similar to the Pink Floyd situation where Roger Waters retained ‘The Wall.’ ‘Mindcrime’ was my thing and my story, so it’s appropriate that I keep that. So they will continue on as Queensryche, and I will continue on as me.” More...
