Shadow Kingdom Reissuing Zone Zero Material

Shadow Kingdom Records has announced the Release of a 2CD career retrospective package from Swedish '80s Heavy Metal group Zone Zero on July 8th.

Comprised of live recordings, rehearsal tracks and studio cuts - including three more recent songs recorded in 2008 - this collection captures the magic of a band heavily influenced by the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, but somehow fell through the cracks of that burgeoning scene. Shadow Kingdom Records now seeks to turn the unknown into the known with "The Lost Legacy."

Shadow Kingdom Records owner Tim McGrogran comments on the package:

"It would be a rare case if anyone were even aware of Zone Zero as they only put out one Single and a few demo tapes in the early 80s before disbanding. In the land of early Swedish Heavy Metal, the very first and most important band was without question Heavy Load, who started in the late 70s. With that said, Zone Zero does have a very strong Heavy Load influence and were also influenced by Judas Priest and the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal.

There were quite a few bands that popped up in the early 80's in Europe that could have easily been a part of the N.W.O.B.H.M. but they weren't because that period of time only included England. This package includes their entire career, which started in 1980 and includes the band re-uniting for 3 brand new songs that were recorded in 2008."

Deep In Hate Signs To Kaotoxin

Kaotoxin records ha announced the inking of a multi-album deal with French deathcore masters Deep In Hate.

Born in 2004 and having released two full-lengths before signing to Kaotoxin, Deep In Hate, which features Nicolas Basto (ex-Aborted/L'Esprit du Clan) on drums, evolved from a technical deathcore outfit to a much more personal brand of melodic and catchy, yet still technical, brand of deathcore.

The band's focus is on writing catchy tunes and developing an oppressive atmosphere by blending dark melodic hooks with technical leads and wall-crushing breakdowns in a very dark, suffocating and yet utterly efficient way.

Touring with the likes of Black Dahlia Murder, appearances at Sonisphere and other European festivals and an inherent desire to push the boundaries of brutality to unimagined levels have all lead Deep In Hate down an evolutionary path that plateaus this June with their Kaotoxin Records debut, "Chronicles of Oblivion."

With a massive production and artwork by Above Chaos (Hellfest, Bethlehem, Nightfall), "Chronicles of Oblivion" features nine heavy and intense, yet melodic song-oriented tracks. Rooted less in tech-metal than previous efforts, Deep In Hate seek to develop a more hook-laden approach to deathcore.

This shift is demonstrated in the new music video they've unleashed in support of "Chronicles of Oblivion." Recorded live at Sonisphere 2013, the video for "New Republic" can be seen below.

Sunday Old School: Holy Moses

Germany is a country whose history and legacy of thrash metal is rivalled only by that on the United States. It’s given the world such excellent acts as Kreator, Destruction and Assassin and still has more to uncover. This week, Sunday Old School will look at another of the country’s fastest heavy groups, who helped strike a blow for women’s place in metal music, Holy Moses. The band was formed in the spa town of Aachen, located in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1980 by bass player Ramon Brüssler, guitarist Jochen Fünders and drummer Peter Vonderstein while they were in high school and played their first show only four days after forming, with Fünders handling vocal duties, before that same year, they recorded and released their first demo, "Black Metal Masters." In 1981, the band was to change forever when both Fünders and Vonderstein left the band, with the latter being replaced by Paul Linzenich, a singer known only as "Iggy" and guitarist, Andly Classen.

Just before the year ended, Iggy decided to leave the band and Classen brought in his partner Sabina to be the group’s new singer. They worked on new material until they felt they were ready to perform, debuting their new incarnation in November 1982, before recording several new demos. The demos, such as "Walpurgis Night" and "The Bitch" helped them gain attention in the metal underground, eventually leading to a deal with Aarrg Records, through which they released their debut album, "Queen of Siam" in 1986. They were scheduled to promote the record by opening for American speed metal act, Agent Steel, however drummer Herbert Dreger failed to show up and was fired from the band as a result, with Uli Kusch replacing him. The last founding member of Holy Moses, Ramon Brüssler decided to quit soon afterwards, his place taken by Andre Chapelier. More...
