Karen Page Parts Ways With Bassist

Karen Page has issued the following announcement about parting ways with their bassist:

"Sadly Rick has decided to leave KP. He's going to college and working full time and decided tour life isn't for him anymore. So over the next few months were going to find a full time replacement. We will have open tryouts for anyone interested. You must:

-Be 18+ and able to tour
-Have transportation to and from practice
-Having a trailer is a plus
-Tour/stage experience is necessary.
-Be a real bassist. We're not looking for a guitar player who can play a bass. Ricks gave us a big full sound while still being technical which we rely on
-If you're a douche, stay home
-You must have good reliable touring equipment or be willing to buy them. If you don't we can supply an amp for tryouts, but you'll need your own.

"Message us if you're interested."

Vreid Comments On Canceled Show

Norway's Vreid has checked in with the following update about canceling their London show due to the flight situation in Europe:

"Getting an sms from the flight company last Thursday saying that our flight to London canceled due to a volcanic eruption, made me wonder if they had moved aprils fool day. But as you all know, this was not a joke at all. Unfortunately our showcase in London was canceled, but the good news is that the show will be set up again this autumn.

"With no flights available last week, we went directly from the airport to the ferry in Oslo. We got a place on the boat for Germany, so we did not have to cancel the other shows as well last weekend. It became a long trip for 2 shows, but sure are happy we made it, as the show at Royal Metal Fest in Denmark was absolutely killer. Now we are preparing for the shows next week with our special guest Vegard Bakken, this is going to be some very cool shows. See you next week."

Vreid's upcoming tour dates are as follows:

4/30 2010 Ragnarök Festival Ostbayernhalle Rieden/Kreuth
5/1 2010 Fieste Pagana Eselswiese Schmerikon
6/19 2010 Jotunheim Festial Kroatia Mocvara Zagreb

Brendan Small Reveals Side Project w/ Gene Hoglan

As part of Metal Injection's coverage of the black carpet at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, they had a chance to speak to Metalocalypse creator Brendan Small, who revealed that he is working on a musical side project with Gene Hoglan that is due out in the fall.

Here is what he had to say: "I'm finishing the season then I'm going into the studio and I'm finishing a solo record that me and Gene Hoglan, and the same Dethklok producer did, so if you like Dethklok, it'll be the same thing, and it'll come out this fall."

When asked if the tone of the record would be less silly he quipped back "It'll be as wise-assy as it needs to be but if you like the riff style, the double kicks, the Gene Hoglan playing, the guitar playing…the vocals will be a bit more melodic but still a heavy project."

Check out the entire interview below:

Severed Completes New Album

New York City metal band Severed has recently completed their self-titled new album, which will be released on May 9th. The band will be also hosting a CD release show on this day.

The band discusses the new album, “As any band who lives to make their music known, we've put blood, sweat and tears into our new CD. We feel the music directly mirrors us as a group. The album is a raw representation of Severed's influences and personalities, and as such we've decided on self-titling it. There's no hiding behind fluff or concept. Take it or leave it, what you hear is who we are.”

“Our new lineup is the most solid it's ever been. It enabled strong technical performances, a diversity of ideas and a deep, heavy sound to be the foundation upon which our album could be built. We're especially excited about the production quality, thanks to John Machado of Five Towns College. A lot of independent bands waste a great deal of time and money on projects with weak production. That's a trap we took efforts to avoid. Working with John was invaluable to getting the sound we wanted. The same can be said for the artwork, a creation of Eliran Kantor, who has done work for many bands including Testament, Gwar, and Sigh. Like all of his art, our CD cover image was masterfully executed and exciting to see in print. We are also extremely excited about the guest appearances on the disc by Ray Mazzola of Full Blown Chaos, and Jorge Rosado of Merauder. Their support means a great deal to us, and their performances add a very dynamic feel to the songs they appear in.” More...
