Napalm Death Extends Deal With Century Media

UK Grindcore pioneers Napalm Death have recently signed a new deal with Century Media Records, extending the long-running co-operation between the parties once more.

Napalm Death vocalist Mark "Barney" Greenway commented: "Very happy to let people know that we have put pen to paper and taken the plunge with Century Media again. Crucial to Napalm Death was that we continued to retain artistic and creative control and also continue to have a determining voice in how our music is used – and, equally as importantly, isn’t used. The people we have consistently worked with down the years at Century Media have always been extremely attuned to this, and we have never experienced anything like the heavy hand of suffocating commercial pressure that can be inherent in this kind of relationship and lead to crappy creative outcomes. Looking forward to sonically bending more minds with their help."

Philipp Schulte, Director Century Media Records Europe, also checked in with the following comment: "Napalm Death and Century Media Records have gone a long way together already, so it makes us very happy continuing as the band’s partner for the years ahead. The value of artistic freedom and creativity has always been of profound significance for Napalm Death. It was the key to becoming and staying one of the most important bands – then and now. We take this very seriously. Thanks to the band for their trust. We are looking forward to this extended strong partnership."

In other news, Century Media Records are now making two of the group’s outstanding albums from their ample catalogue available physically again in their standard versions: "Time Waits For No Slave" (2009) and "Utilitarian" (2012) will be released as LP on 180g vinyl and as Jewelcase CD on June 4th, 2021.

At The Gates To Release New Album In July

Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At The Gates have recently completed the recordings and preparations for their upcoming new studio album and can now reveal that it will be entitled "The Nightmare Of Being" and that it will be released on July 2nd, 2021!

While main parts for "The Nightmare Of Being" were recorded in several different Swedish studios - Drums at Studio Gröndal with Jens Bogren, guitars and bass with Andy La Rocque at Sonic Train Studio and vocals at Welfare Sounds with Per Stålberg -, the album was mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studios (Amon Amarth, Opeth, Kreator, etc.) by Jens Bogren, who has previously worked with At The Gates on their "At War With Reality" comeback album in 2014. The album’s visual concept was developed by artist Eva Nahon.

At The Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg Redant checked in with the following comment about the album’s concept: "The overall theme deals with the topic of pessimism, and I have been diving deep down in pessimistic philosophers. Trying to understand this way of looking at the world. It is not a negative album, more a gateway into new ideas for me personally, trying out different perspectives. You could call the album an introduction to pessimism as a concept, I guess. It is a very dark album, but not negative…." More...

Cannibal Corpse Unleashes "Violence Unimagined"

Death metal is arguably the most popular of all metal sub-genres. While thrash metal may have done better commercially at a time, to this day, a new band is formed influenced by the vast range of groups from the extreme area. Much like practically every thrash band cited Venom and Motorhead as an influence, almost every death metal band points to Cannibal Corpse as one of their main inspirations. It's been a long road for Cannibal Corpse to attain such a status however, battling lineup changes, controversy and even outright bans in some countries, but the quintet are still going strong and judging by what the public has heard of the new album, "Violence Unimagined," they're more grizzly than ever.

The album in question is an important release for the band born from Buffalo, New York, as it marks their first album with Hate Eternal mastermind Erik Rutan as a full time member, though he knows them well, having produced every album since 2006's, "Kill." To find out more about the album, Rutan's influence, what seperates it from "Red Before Black," the ever gruesome artwork and much more, I spoke with drummer and co-founder Paul Mazurkiewicz, in an interview which can be seen in full below.
