Interview with Tom Hunting of Exodus

Exodus has been thrashing the brains out of the skulls of metalheads for over 30 years and show no signs of stopping. Currently on the Rust in Peace Tour with other legends Megadeth and Testament, the California thrashers did a one-off show in New Orleans with local but infamous black metallers Goatwhore. I had the chance to talk to drummer Tom Hunting before the show to discuss their new album and the thrill of performing for their fans. A transcribed version follows. More...

Dragonwind Parts Ways With Vocalist

Dragonwind has issued the following update regarding the departure of vocalist Steve Grymek:

"Dragonwind parted ways with Vocalist Steve Grymek due to the fact that the band wanted to go in a different direction. We hired Steve to do Melodic Death Metal vocals, and he did just what we asked him to do perfectly. However, the band has collectively decided that we no longer want to play Melodic Death Metal, and we are opting for more of a Classic Metal sound in the future. We are looking for a clean singer, it doesn't have to be any specific range of low or high, just clean. Ideally the person would be very talented and would not require any kind of studio magic. If anyone feels that they can do what we are asking then please contact us immediately through myspace, or you can contact Matt or Dans facebook, or my e-mail at speedgtr92@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you."

Megadeth Comments On Fan's Death

Megadeth has issued the following statement about the death of fan Jeffrey Hendricks:

"Megadeth would like to send out their sincere condolences to the family and friends of a fallen Droogie, Jeffrey Hendricks. Jeffrey passed away on Friday, March 26 after a battle with cancer. Jeffrey was to attend the Megadeth concert and meet 'n greet in Memphis, Tennessee on March 23 but went into critical condition the night before and was not able to attend. After hearing the news that Jeffrey wouldn't be able to attend the show, Dave Mustaine and the band gave Jeffrey a very special phone call.

"Jeffrey had met the band at a Megadeth concert in Knoxville in November 2009. The family has expressed their gratitude to Dave and the band for meeting and spending time with Jeffrey last November and for calling him Tuesday. They said that getting to meet and talk with the band really brightened the last six months of Jeffrey’s life, and they’ll always be extremely grateful for it."

Cyaegha Reveals New Song Titles For New Album

Cyaegha has issued the following update on the progress of the writing of their new album:

"We are currently hard at work finishing up the writing of our new album! Though the album title is still tentative at this point, we will mention however, that it will be centered around the especially evil, deceptive figure known as Nyarlathotep, and his influence on mankind itself. Will his conniving ways be responsible for the destruction of mankind? Or will the human race alone, be held responsible for its own demise?"

"We believe that the new songs are some of our best yet and we can't wait for everyone to hear them. Here are a few of the new song titles:

'A Dismal Exposition'
'Languishing in Solitude'
'Transcending Human Dimensions'"

Sunday Old School: Sepultura

Thrash metal is best known for making metal stars out of bands from America and Germany, but every now and then, it would present a hero from somewhere no-one expected. In this case, it made metal legends out of a Brazilian band named Sepultura. The group was formed in the city of Belo Horizonte by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, along with bass player Paulo Xisto and vocalist Wagner Lamounier. Lamounier left the band the next year and Max took over the spot behind the microphone, so the band recruited guitarist Jairo Guedes to be the band's lead player. This lineup would record the EP "Bestial Devastation" and the full length album "Morbid Visions" before Guedes left, to be replaced by Max Cavalera's former guitar technician Andreas Kisser. This is perhaps the best known lineup of the band, recording five studio albums together and breaking into the metal mainstream, becoming one of the genres leading young bands alongside Pantera.

The group began to receive commercial success in 1993 with the release of their album, "Chaos A.D." which features the singles, "Refuse/Resist," "Slave New World" and "Territory," three of the band's most well known songs. The group gained further success three years later when they released "Roots," an ambitious album that saw them embrace their Brazilian heritage, even recording a song with the Xavantes tribe. However the good times were not to last as Max Cavalera left the band on bad terms when the other members informed him they did not wish to renew the contract of their manager, who was also Max's wife. The band replaced their old singer with American, Derrick Green, who had previously released an album with the band Outface. This lineup released the record "Against" in 1998 but the album did not do as well as they had hoped. More...
