Soen Streaming "Savia" Track

Today Decibel Magazine is hosting a stream of “Savia” from progressive metal supergroup, Soen. Hear the song at this location. The tune comes courtesy of the band’s "Cognitive" debut initially released digitally via Spinefarm Records last Winter, and due out in North America later this summer.

Featuring the all-star lineup of drummer Martin Lopez (ex-Opeth, Amon Amarth), bassist Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus, Testament, Death, Iced Earth), vocalist Joel Ekelöf (Willowtree), and guitarist Kim Platbarzdis, "Cognitive" was mixed by David Bottrill (Tool, Coheed and Cambria, Silverchair, Smashing Pumpkins, Muse, etc.), mastered by João Carvalho, and features ten tracks of what Lopez describes as “melodic, heavy, intricate and different.” The following press release was also issued about the band:

"When Lopez joined forces with DiGiorgio, Ekelöf, and Platbarzdis, it was obvious that this collaboration would not be another name-dropping, substance-deprived 'super project.' The foursome paint their musical canvas with broad strokes that on first listen may appear gray and sullen, but the true power of the music lies clandestine, just a little below the monochrome surface. More than just a sum of its rather esteemed parts, Soen weave an intricate network of melody and melancholy. More...

The Ocean Streaming New Song

Today, Pitchfork unveils "Hadopelagic II: Let Them Believe," a track taken from The Ocean's forthcoming new studio recording, "Pelagial." Submerse yourself in ninth movement "Hadopelagic II: Let Them Believe" at pitchfork.com here.

Metal Blade also comments: "A progressive audio voyage written, recorded, and to-be-performed-live as one single 53-minute piece of music, Pelagial was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Witchcraft) at Fascination Street Studios in Orebro, Sweden, and firmly stands as The Ocean's deepest, most challenging entry to their winding catalog of sound exploration. 'Pelagial' will be released as a double CD, which includes both vocal and instrumental versions of the album, on April 26th/29th (Europe) and April 30th (North America/world) through Metal Blade Records."

Guitarist Robin Staps relates: "My original plan was to write a stepless musical progression, like a continuous color blending from white to black. But I soon realized that it could not be that linear. It needed to stay interesting after all, and this is something that is usually best achieved by employing unforeseeable elements. In the end, any good idea must be put into perspective by its musical impact."

And so the listener will experience swirls and vertical currents while listening to the album; short, unexpected faster passages in between, sudden tempo changes that will make them feel like they're rising again for a short bit -- but the general direction remains very clear: "You can feel from the beginning, it's going down. Deeper and deeper." More...

Devin Oliver (vocals) comments: “We are happy to announce that last week we started recording the next chapter of I See Stars. It's insane to think that this is our 4th album. It's even crazier that I can confidently say this will be our best album yet.

"We decided to work with Joey Sturgis once again seeing as we worked so well together on our previous album. We would like to thank all of our family, friends and fans that have helped us get to this point. “As for the album's content, we're gonna be doing 6 string and 7 string songs on the same recording for the first time ever. Aside from that, we've been more focused for this record than any of the previous. We've had 2+ years to write, critique, adjust and learn these songs, which is just something we haven't had in the past with our intense touring schedule. Like the last album (The Discovery), we've been living and writing this album together and it's made for the best, most focused Born of Osiris album to date.

“What makes this release even more special to us is the fact that we'll be releasing it on the one and only Rockstar Energy Mayhem Tour this summer. We get to share the stage with some of the biggest and most talented names in metal. There's no other better way to possibly start this record cycle. We will see you all soon.”

Beyond The Shore Posts New Album Preview

Beyond the Shore has posted a video that contains previews of each track off new album, "Ghostwatcher." In addition to the track samples, fans can read the concepts behind each song, written by vocalist Andrew Loucks. Check out the clip below, or read the descriptions of each track at Stereokiller.com here.

"Ghostwatcher" will be released on April 2nd, 2013 through Metal Blade Records. Loucks describes the concept behind the album title:

"Ghostwatcher refers to the view you have on your dreams. While asleep, dreaming is usually a hazy memory at best. Few can actually go into detail with their dreams and dealing with the lucidity of them is another topic entirely! But the 'ghostwatcher' is your point of view on your dreams. As you may recall, when you see yourself in a dream, it's always from another perspective, or 'ghostwatcher' as I call it. The album art shows a ghostwatcher and also the triangle with an eye in the middle refers to the state on unrest most of our world is in, not only in our dreams but also the differing forms of reality." Tristania Reveals New Album Cover Artwork

Tristania has now revealed the cover artwork for new album "Darkest White," which was created by metal cover artist favorite Eliran Kantor. The album is due out via Napalm Records on May 31st, 2013.

According to a press release, with "Darkest White" Tristania ventures into a considerably darker soundscape than on the previous album, both musically and lyrically. The emotional span of the album is bigger, ranging from the most brutal primal aggression to the most fragile and poignant moments. The album features an array of grand arrangements, doomy moods, and elaborate harmonies blended with intense growling: a flamboyant display of outstanding vocal performances.

Tristania's Ole Vistnes comments: "After the release of Rubicon in 2010, I felt that we had opened the door to our new musical landscape, but that we still had a lot of places to explore creatively. With Darkest White we have dug deeper, searched wider and reached higher to create the most musically challenging and emotionally involving album we possibly could. Like all Tristania albums, I feel this one is detached from musical rules and genre expectations, and perfectly represents the musical freedom that I so much love about Tristania.

"During the writing and recording of the album we worked hard to create the album we had in our minds, but we were also careful to let the songs live a life on their own. We didn’t set out to make the album technically outstanding or theoretically perfect, but we followed our hearts in all parts of the writing and production. I’m proud of Darkest White, mostly because of the uncompromising honesty and attitude that saturated everything from the songwriting and recording to the mix." More...
