Cloven Hoof Reveals New Album Details

NWoBHM band, Cloven Hoof, will release their new album, "Age Of Steel," on CD and vinyl on April 24 via Pure Steel Records. The single, "Touch The Rainbow" is now available digitally via Spotify, Deezer, Google Play, etc. Listen to the song below.

Cloven Hoof were originally formed in the West Midlands in 1979. Following their legendary debut EP The Opening Ritual in 1982, Lee Payne and his boys went on to record six highly regarded full-length studio records and making a name for themselves as one of the most original sounding protagonists of the entire New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement.

The name of Cloven Hoof’s brand new studio album is "Age Of Steel" and what a fitting title it is! Bassist and main man Lee Payne takes over the story: "I personally feel it is our best ever release, it really is a tour de force with every song a total killer! The album features the return of the ‘Dominator’ character, who has been genetically brought back to life to wield death and destruction across the galaxy. His empire is restored to its former glory and the story will conclude on the album after this, so watch this space! The concept album is back!"

"I always want to top the last album and I have to dig deep to achieve that,” continues Lee Payne with a smile on his face. “I strive for perfection and I have a very clear vision of what 'Age Of Steel' should be like. 'Who Mourns For The Morning Star?' was without doubt a great album. The new one just takes it one stage further with more layering and texture next to blistering heavy guitars. It will encompass everything we do well but with greater depth and colour. There are some really evil sounding tracks on there, and get ready for a really adventurous musical piece that takes up a whole side of the album."

The pre-order phase for "Age Of Steel" will start on April 10. In addition to the CD version, the album will be released in a limited edition of 400 black and 100 black/silver splatter (with patch) copies and insert on vinyl. More...

Sinisthra To Release New Album In May

Finland’s Sinisthra have signed with Italian label Rockshots Records for the release of their album, "The Broad and Beaten Way." Best described as sadness tinged with despair and hope, the new album encapsulates raw emotion set against heavy and brooding music.

This album comes 15 years after the debut record "Last of the Stories of Long Past Glories," and its manifestation has been a slow and arduous process. The songs were written ages ago while other projects, primarily vocalist Tomi Joutsen’s presence in Amorphis, were given priority from the band members.

Guitarist Markku Mäkinen writes the majority of the music for the highly elusive band whose original and complex sound has often been mislabeled. The band explains the evolution of their music:

"We all had a history in thrash and death metal bands, but when the band originally came together in 2000, there was not much metal at all in the sound, it was leaning more towards grunge and at times trip-hop. After the first album in 2005, the sound took a lot more metallic turn and something came in from 70’s prog as well. Metal genres are irrelevant to us."

The name for the album comes from Paradise Lost by John Milton; "The Broad and Beaten Way" is a bridge from Hell to Earth with the lyrics taking inspiration from the fall of man, and from leading a chaotic and self-destructive modern day life and trying to find solid ground and perhaps even some peace of mind. "Eterne" is the first song, where the metaphorical Adam and Eve are expelled, both from Eden and from their union, and in the last song "Ephemeral" Adam, solitary, finally accepts his past actions as futile.

The melancholic sojourn, suitable for fans of Katatonia, Anathema, and Amorphis will be available in May 2020. More...

Irist Reveals New Music Video

Breakout Southern metal band Irist will release their massively anticipated debut album, "Order of the Mind," next Friday, March 27th with Nuclear Blast. In a much-needed distraction, the band has delivered a colossal new single, 'Creation', and accompanying video that can be viewed below.

Although their record release show was cancelled due to COVID-19, IRIST’s new video for 'Creation' gives fans a taste of their incendiary live performance. Director Dan Almasy beautifully captures the song’s introspective spirit and powerful energy. “‘Creation' is an upbeat song on the surface, but it’s also meant to be meditative”, says guitarist Pablo Davila. “I think it somehow conveys a subtle “otherworldliness” that’s not easy to express. Dan Almasy did a great job of interpreting that vibe for us in this music video.”

Digging in further, the lyrical concept of 'Creation' is a profound exercise in self-reflection that peels away at the layers of a contrived identity in search of truth. “We sometimes need to abandon our beliefs to know who we really are, and that’s what ‘Creation’ is about”, states vocalist Rodrigo Carvalho. “It asks us to connect with ourselves in a deeper way, to learn our identity and to rid ourselves from who others think we are. In sum, ‘Creation’s’ meditative theme and music make it a truly cathartic song for us.” More...

Deep Purple Uneils New Music Video

Deep Purple will release their 21st studio album, "Whoosh!" - produced by the legendary Bob Ezrin - on June 12, available as a Standard CD, a Digital Album, a Limited Edition CD+DVD Mediabook (including the 1 hour feature “Roger Glover And Bob Ezrin In Conversation” and, for the first time, the full live performance at Hellfest 2017 video), and a Vinyl 2LP+DVD edition (earMUSIC). You can watch a video for the first single, "Throw My Bones", below.

Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Steve Morse, and Don Airey were invited by Bob Ezrin to Nashville to write and record, during which the band were inspired to push their creative boundaries. Letting go of any artistic limitations, they adopted the motto “Deep Purple is putting the Deep back in Purple”. "Whoosh!" embodies that freedom, with lyrics that reflect their sentiments on the current situation of the world.

"We’ve included everything that made the whole band smile, including Bob Ezrin," exclaims Morse. "We’ve always enjoyed making music and having the incredible luxury of a loyal audience."

"Whoosh!" marks Deep Purple’s third album produced by Ezrin (Alice Cooper, Pink Floyd). The first - 2013’s "Now What?!" - charted at #1 in five European countries, as well as Top 10 in over 15 countries worldwide. Cementing itself as one of their most successful albums, "inFinite," released in 2017, broke chart records the band accumulated over their 50+year history. With chemistry this electric, it only made sense for Deep Purple and Ezrin to collaborate a third time.

Firewind Reveals New Album Details

Greek power metal veterans Firewind has announced that their new, self-titled album will be released through AFM Records on May 15th. The band has also released a new music video for the song, "Rising Fire," which you can check out below.

Says the band: "Hey everyone! We're finally back with some new music for you! 'Rising Fire' is the first single off our upcoming self-titled 9th studio album. It features our new singer Herbie Langhans, who sounds amazing! This song is about overcoming difficulties and situations that one might be stuck in. We've all been there at some point in our lives. We hope 'Rising Fire' can be a soundtrack to a positive mindset. So play it loud!"

With his charismatic voice, new member Herbie Langhans (Avantasia, Radiant, Seventh Avenue, amongst others) refines each and every last one of the ten new songs and infuses them with an expressive force that is remarkable.

Gus G and Herbie Langhans got to know each other back in the autumn of 2019, when the Firewind leader was looking for a suitable replacement for Henning Basse after the tour with Queensrÿche. Just a few weeks later the recordings for “Firewind” were a done deal, ready for Swedish sound engineer Tobias Lindell (Europe, Avatar, H.E.A.T.) to mix them in Lindell Audio Studios.

The result is impressive indeed. "Firewind" boasts 11 prime examples of melodic metal songs. The skill, craftsmanship and power bleeds through every note, a passion you can almost taste, with hymnal melodies as a particularly outstanding feature. More...

Cro-Mags Streaming "The Quarantine Show"

Announced on Friday, March 13, the Body Count/Cro-Mags show at Webster Hall in NYC was postponed, leading Cro-Mags founder/bassist/vocalist Harley Flanagan and crew (guitarists Rocky George and Joseph Affe, Garry “Gman” Sullivan on drums) to hit SIR Studios on Sunday, March 15 and took their set online, now known as "The Quarantine Show." Today, the band delivers the full, multi-camera performance, which you can watch below.

"I am glad we were able to give you all a free concert in this time of quarantine. I would not have been able to do it without my team and I would like to thank them. These are the times we have to find new ways to help each other. We as people can't let the fear turn us against each other. Stay strong, be smart and stay safe!" - Harley Flanagan

Flanagan reflects on recent times and the importance of doing this show, "I am very unhappy that the show with Body Count this weekend was postponed by Governor Cuomo - I was really looking forward to it, but I am more sad for the many people who are going to be out of work for who knows how long, and for those who have become ill from this terrible disease. We all must take extra precautions these days, but we will learn how to deal with this like we have learned how to deal with deadly diseases in the past. Be safe, be strong and be smart. The show will be rescheduled, and life will go on. Eventually we will all be "killed by death" just ask Lemmy. If it's not one thing it will be another, but life will go on. And so will this show." Katatonia Posts New Music Video Online

This track is one of the highlights from new album "City Burials," bursting into life with a trademark screaming guitar solo before dropping into an upbeat distinctive and hugely memorable Katatonia chorus.

Vocalist Jonas Renkse states "’Behind the Blood’ is a celebration of the heavy metal music that we all grew up with, modified to fit the Katatonia universe. Whilst lyrically it is telling the tale of dark revelry, to awaken the blood with the sound and taste of thunder."

"Behind the Blood" has all the hallmarks of becoming a new classic.

Katatonia, formed in 1991 by Jonas Renkse & Anders Nyström, and transitioning from early pioneers of the rising black/death/doom movement, to powerhouses of the progressive metallic rock genre. Lost Legacy Streaming New Album

New York power metallers Lost Legacy released their new album "In The Name of Freedom" today, March 20, 2020 via Pure Steel Records. The band has teamed up with MetalInsider.net for the album's exclusive full stream here.

Featuring forty-six minutes of pure metal, Lost Legacy's sophomore release is a concept album serving as an act II to their debut full length, which was inspired by the tragedy of 9/11.

The band comments:

"For 'In The Name of Freedom” the inspiration was driven by Dave’s desire to write about 'the men and women' of our armed forces and about the lack of judgment among many media outlets that report without having all the facts - and how it divides people.

"The album concept follows as part II to our first self-released album 'The Aftermath' that was inspired by the tragedy of 9/11. Vocalist Dave Franco took pen to paper and wrote about the tragedies and the heroism of first responders, soldiers and the survivors of this sad day in our history.

"'In The Name of Freedom' is dedicated to the men and women of our armed forces that have sacrificed everything to protect our freedoms. As a band we do not support war, but we are supportive of our troops and wanted to express our feelings about what they go through and the difficulties they face, from dealing with their own mortality and PTSD. It’s our way to honor them and say thanks. The album also has a song “Take Me Away” that relates to the way media outlets present news about shootings in our country and how before all the facts are known, they emit conclusions and judgments without knowing all the facts and how this has an effect on people by causing divide, riots, and misunderstandings.

"This album delivers a twin guitar assault that blends heavy melodic riffs, intellectual musicianship, and superb vocals."

Wolfheart Posts New Music Video Online

Finnish heavy melodic death metal unit Wolfheart recently announced the upcoming release of their new full-length Winter War epic, Wolves Of Karelia, out April 10, 2020 via Napalm Records.

Today, Wolfheart has revealed another fantastic offering cut from Wolves Of Karelia, entitled "Hail Of Steel". The track signals oncoming war with an ocean-like wave of rhythm and hair-raising guitars, cascading into an extreme, melodic wall of blastbeats and symphonics. Accented by piercing clean vocal harmonics and pummeling double bass, the track sets the grand stage for the entire album. The new music video is equally as searing - a fiery performance fitting for the epic track.

Wolfheart frontman Tuomas Saukkonen says about the track and video:
""Hail Of Steel" is an embodiment of the fierce chaos of war. The Finnish army had 32 tanks against 3000 Russian tanks, 114 planes against 3800 Russian planes, three times bigger troops, etc., so those Fins really saw steel and fire raining from the sky." More...
