Evergrey Shares New Music Video

Swedish progressive metal band Evergrey has posted a new music video online for the song, "Where August Mourn." You can check it out below. The song comes from the band's forthcoming new album "Escape Of The Phoenix" which will be released on 26th February, through AFM Records.

Written and recorded during the ongoing global Covid-19 pandemic, "Escape Of The Phoenix" came to life according to plans that had been laid out in 2019. Englund and drummer Jonas Ekdahl began composing the songs in January, creating a foundation for the album before Evergrey gathered together and arranged the songs as a group. Unlike a typical creative process, which is often interrupted by appointments, travelling and one-off shows, lockdown requirements gave the band much needed time to work unhindered. The result is 11 songs that embody everything Evergrey fans have to expect, albeit "a more metal version of 'The Atlantic'," with songs that are "more direct," according to Englund and producer Jacob Hansen.

"Escape Of The Phoenix" continues to showcase Englund as a powerful lyricist as he once again digs deep into himself, only this time he wasn't restricted by the story developed and told over the previous three albums. With this new freedom he was able to write about whatever came to mind, with subjects ranging from intensely personal, his view of the world, mankind, and personal relationships.

"I write lyrics for myself, to get things out of my system," says Englund. "This has been my therapy, really, for the last 25 years. I'm very certain that if we didn't do this, I would be a much more miserable person. I've got to thank music for everything, especially having the outlet to write lyrics. There's a theory that writing things to yourself is therapeutic, and I think that's very true. The composing of the lyrics is extremely important to me; just as important as writing the music. Even more, sometimes. For me it's like painting a picture with words. I see really clearly what it's about; it's a world for me." More...

Metalite Reveals New Album Details

The update for modern Power and Melodic Metal will be coming sooner as expected – with a new album called "A Virtual World," the Swedish Power Metal quintet Metalite returns to the metal dancefloor. Not even a year & a half after they returned with their new singer Erica Ohlsson, who brought in a massive amount of energy and musicianship to increase the impact for the new heroes of Modern Metal, trendsetting, epic and of the highest quality.

This match made in heaven has been celebrated with an album that - even for Scandianvian standards - could be called a rarity. Their opus "Biomechanicals" (2019) was influenced by the concept of bands like Within Temptation, Amaranthe and Delain but at the same time the band from Stockholm reinvents classic Melodic Metal – unleashing a storm of power and zeitgeist that you cannot escape.

Like they started on "Biomechanicals," the Swedes continue to expertly make use of electronic elements, influenced by the Trance Era of early 21st century: spheric layers mix with vibrating sequences and pulsating beats fitting like a second skin for the massive, melodic and outrageously catchy wall of sound. Tetrarch To Release New Album In April

After making massive strides at media, radio, streaming and beyond in 2020, breakout metal stars Tetrarch are about to own 2021 with the release of their highly anticipated sophomore full-length album, "Unstable," scheduled to drop on April 30 via Napalm Records! The album is available for pre-order in several exciting formats, beginning today.

Following the release of their latest hit "I’m Not Right" – an anthem that cracked the Mediabase Active Rock Top 30 and has commanded the scene since its release with over four million combined cross-platform streams – Tetrarch have revealed another blazing new single, "You Never Listen." The earworm ode to relationships-gone-bad, which premiered via SiriusXM Liquid Metal, packs a punch with chunky, breakneck riffs and a sing-a-long worthy chorus, proving it as an accessible yet dynamic knockout.

Tetrarch frontman/guitarist Josh Fore says about the track:
"‘You Never Listen’ is for anybody who has struggled or is struggling through a broken relationship – whether it be with a family member, friend, significant other, or even with themselves. So many times, we find that people we once were close with or felt like we knew well show a darker and different side of themselves that forces us apart. ‘You Never Listen’ is about having the strength to say enough is enough and to rid yourself of those toxic situations."

Lead guitarist Diamond Rowe adds about the track’s blistering new music video:
"We wanted to do something unexpected and approach the song from a different lens. Conceptually, the video follows a young kid who is obviously living in a bad situation in a messed-up home. Throughout the video, the kid deals with the inner voices and visions in his head, represented by the band members appearing and disappearing, as he struggles to understand what’s real and what isn’t. As the song ramps up, we wanted to portray the kid as telling those voices to shut up as he takes control and rids himself of the negative energy around him." More...

Wake Signs With Metal Blade Records

Relentless transformation, aggression, and transcendence have written the script for Canadian metallers Wake. Since their formation in 2009, they've released numerous EPs and singles, plus five full-lengths - touring the world in support of it. Now, for their upcoming sixth album [set to be recorded in July 2021 with producer Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Archspire)], Wake has joined forces with Metal Blade Records, marking a new chapter for the quintet.

Wake comments: "All of us in Wake have had a lot of regard both for Metal Blade and for the bands on its roster from any era. An endless stream of Metal Blade artists have been played in our van during any number of tours. For us, playing music has always been something that we've tried to do on our own terms and with our own vision. We've explored a lot of ground musically, and that was influenced by the history that Metal Blade was there to write. So, we're very excited to say that we've joined up with Metal Blade.

"Expect a lot more noise from our camp in the near future."

Wake's latest full-length, "Devouring Ruin," was featured on several "best of 2020" lists (including Decibel Magazine, Exclaim!, BrooklynVegan, among others); soon after its release, the group dropped their "Confluence" EP, once again to critical acclaim. Fans can watch a trailer for the upcoming behind-the-scenes video about the making of "Confluence" below. More...

Tomas Lindberg Returns To Lock Up For New Album

Initially joining the band in 2002 for the "Hate Breeds Suffering" album, Tomas Lindberg (Grotesque, At The Gates, Disfear) who also recorded the "Necropolis Transparent" and "Play Fast Or Die - Live in Japan" albums with Lock Up, is now back in the fold joining Kevin Sharp for more insane malevolent grind and death vokill attack.

Lock Up is currently recording the brand new album, "The Dregs Of Hades," to be released via Listenable next fall. The "Dregs Of Hades album" will also feature new drummer Adam Jarvis (Misery Index, Pig Destroyer) on drums following Nick Barker’s departure last year.

Adam Jarvis comments: "When Shane first asked me to join the already elite league of extraordinary gentlemen I was beyond ecstatic! THEN.... I find out Tompa was rejoining the band and I went bananas! So excited for everyone to hear what madness we’ve created so far, and for a double assault from Kevin and Tompa that is bound to make you want to punch stuff!" More...

Interview

Sirenia Founder Discusses New Album & 80s Music

It takes a lot of bravery to leave a successful band to start your own, but twenty years later, few can doubt that leaving Tristania to form Sirenia was the right thing for Morten Veland to do. The band has gone on to craft an extensive catalogue of quality Gothic and symphonic metal, earning critical as well as commercial success, charting in several different countries.

Fast forward to the present day and Sirenia are still going strong, with their tenth album, "Riddles, Ruins & Revelations" set to be released on February 12th through Napalm Records. The record makes their third release with vocalist Emmanuelle Zoldan and their first with guitarist Nils Courbaron and drummer Michael Brush and promises to add a new dimension to the band's sound, taking particular influence from the synth music of the 1980s.

To find out more about the album, the effect the pandemic has had on its release, recording a music video for "Addiction No. 1," the eighties influence and more, I spoke with Morten Veland himself. You can listen to the interview in full below. More...
