Risk Relay Streams "The Meeting"

New Jersey's Risk Relay -- now just over a week from releasing fourth full-length, "As We Descend" through Nefarious Industries - offers a new preview of the record with "The Meeting." Check it out below.

The theme of "As We Descend" is inspired by the late nineteenth-century science fiction novel by John Uri Lloyd, "Etidorhpa," which depicts the story of a man banished to an alternate world within the center of the Earth.

Offers Risk Relay with the new single: "'The Meeting' is the story of the restless mind of Llewellyn Drury, alone in his 1850s Cincinnati apartment, trying to find meaning through a dimly lit library of ancient texts as choking clouds of coal soot exhale against his window panes. The feeling of complete isolation descends like the creeping city murk but a restless mind conjures a white bearded phantom to impart the secrets of hidden science." More...

Periphery Releasing Coffee

Periphery, which released fifth album "Periphery III: Select Difficulty" in July (reviewed here), have partnered with DC-based Vigilante Coffee Company for a special limited edition coffee, dubbed “Flatline.”

“Being the coffee junkies that we are, the band and I jumped at the opportunity to develop and release our own branded coffee with Vigilante, who kept us over-caffeinated for the Periphery III recoding sessions,” explains guitar player Mark Holcomb.

He goes on to say, “When we saw what Vigilante founder Chris Vigilante was doing and tasted the coffee they were brewing, we were floored; it was easily the best coffee I had tried in my years of living in D.C., and the band made it our go-to coffee spot. This past winter, Chris invited us into the shop for a lengthy tasting where we sampled over a dozen coffees and picked what would become 'Flatline' coffee. Aside from being excited to release such a great coffee, we’re also proud to say that a portion of the proceeds from sales of this coffee are going directly to Ecuador’s earthquake emergency relief for the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Ecuador in April 2016. “

Bags of “Flatline” coffee are available now via Periphery’s webstore. The coffee is described as featuring chocolate notes and a lasting mouthfeel. As it cools, its creaminess is almost chewy, with delicate earthy and toasty notes. More...

OvO Streaming "Zombie Stomp"

New OvO song "Zombie Stomp," the veteran Italian duo's newest anthem of bare-bones industrial metal occultism, has come online and can be heard below.

OvO's Stefania Pedretti and Bruuno Dorella mark dark magic out of primitive industrial sounds and Pedretti's theatrically demonic vocals. Dorella pounds out minimal cadences on a mix of acoustic and electronic percussion, as Pedretti casts spells in her own arcane language –"there are no lyrics," she explains.

A combination of guitars and synths sets a driving, end-of-the-world tone. But as Moore notes, there are melodies to be found underneath the fog. "Zombie Stomp" appears on the band's ninth album "Creatura," due out December 9th on Italian label Dio Drone.

"Creatura" was recorded by Lorenzo Stecconi (Zu, Ufomammut) at a theater company's warehouse in Ravenna, Italy; it was mixed by Giulio Favero, and mastered by Giovanni Versari (Muse). More...

Nightwish Issues "Alpenglow" Live Video

"We were here!" - once again, the members of Nightwish carve their name into the walls of music history and after touring for a year and a half throughout every corner of the world, their time has come to immortalize the "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" tour on DVD.

On December 9th, the symphonic metal visionaries are set to release their new live milestone "Vehicle Of Spirit," featuring not only two full concerts, but also plenty of bonus material. Today, they unveil a second appetizer with live hymn "Alpenglow."

Nightwish issued this statement: "I would say the main part of the DVD are those two shows, both Wembley and Tampere. Wembley is mentioned first due to its recognizability and legendary status. I remember the show being very special, both a goal achieved, and a starting point.

"The crowd was heartwarming. The presence of Richard Dawkins on stage was just mind-blowing. The overall experience was a once-in-a-lifetime thrill ride! The show in Ratina Stadion, Tampere, was a home crowd specialty (for 4/6th of the band) with the biggest stage production we've ever had. A lovely atmosphere throughout the concert, with many same faces in the front row as there were 15 years ago. Heartfelt." More...

In support of "Reach" the band will be hitting the road this January on a rescheduled tour. On the rescheduling of the upcoming tour, the band said the following:

"I must admit, it's been hard to find many things to be happy about over the last few weeks, but as always, Tyketto was the best medicine for me. I played 'Reach' a dozen times, and reminiscing about the sessions in Wales always brought a smile to my face. The outpouring of support from fans, venue owners and agents has also been a source of great comfort to us all. Some things in life transcend business, and everyone in the band felt the love coming to us all month.

"When plans of a reschedule tour commenced, we figured we would only be able to reconstruct a handful of dates. We knew the odds of venues having availability were slim to none, but even in the darkest hours, our guardian angels were looking out for us. More...

The Stranger Streaming "Divine Intervention"

Brisbane prog-metal band The Stranger is today carving a mark in the Australian heavy music landscape with the release of new single "Divine Intervention." This is the first salvo of an assault-via-album due early 2017 and sets the tone sonically and thematically for the release.

The Stranger formed in 2013 as the brain child of Kalen Austin and Daniel O’Brien, with the goal of exploring expression by leaving no musical stone unturned. The Stranger has since made a presence in the Brisbane music scene by developing an eclectic mix of progressive metal, djent, folk, and acoustic.

Adam Merker (Aversions Crown, Lagerstein, Disentomb) from Anderz Debeerz Studio recorded the single and album with David Castillo (Katatonia, Bloodbath, Opeth) from Ghost Ward Studios on mixing duties and Jens Bogren (Opeth, Devin Townsend, Caligula’s Horse) from Fascination Street Studios doing final mastering.

Drummer Daniel O'Brien said of the new track: "'Divine Intervention' is the story of an aggrieved deity whose apathetic pantheon's tenacious destruction of evil drives him to question his own morality and the very nature of good and evil itself." More...

Mark Zero Releasing "Ballistica" Album

After two years of dedication and hard work, Gothenburg metal band Mark Zero is gearing up to release debut full-length album "Ballistica" on November 21st. The album, which will be self-released by the band on all major digital platforms, shows of a dark and melodic yet raw approach to metal.

Frontman John NT explains, "The album has definitely got a 90’s vibe to it in many ways, the simple but honest sound of nu-metal and industrial metal from that era. The drums are raw, the guitars are gritty and muddy, and the vocals aren’t perfect. It’s just honest.”

Mostly recorded at the band's rehearsal space and mixed by guitarist Scott Crocker, drums were recorded in Sweden’s Boomtown Studios with producer Erik Berglund. The album deals with mental health and the day-to-day battles that are common in society today.

John NT comments: "Most of the songs feature some sort of antagonist, whether it be a person or just a mental concept. The overall theme of the album is definitely about fighting your way out of the mental jungle, no matter who gets a machete through their face on the way." More...

Metal Bands React To Trump Presidency

Well, it looks like GWAR's election rigging and Anal Trump's political grindcore couldn't stop the Trump Train.

The rock and metal world have begun to react to the reality of President-Elect Donald Trump this morning, and as expected, it isn't pretty. While a few were ecstatic (I see you there Ted) and a few have been oddly silent (where is Dave Mustaine?), most of the response has been less than positive.

Below is a sampling of musicians across the genre spectrum expressing their thoughts at learning of who ended up winning the electoral college vote last night in the U.S.

Despite Posts "Awakening" Video

Sweden’s progressive melodic death metal Despite just released a video for "Awakening," which is the second clip shot off the "Synergi" album released back in July.

"Awakening" tackles the topic of poisonous political convictions on the day after the U.S. presidential election. The video was directed by Joel Nilsson of Maluha Media and filmed in the remote badlands of Vasterlanda, Sweden.

“The poison of choice for the saboteurs of today is conviction, and at the core of every conflict you will find these convictions,” states bassist Anthony Cui. “Whether they’re political or religious, these are the anti-theses of diplomacy and communication among humanity. Far too often, people use their convictions as barriers.”

Vocalist Peter Tuthill adds, “the cogs under the surface of our skin represent the fact that we are all small parts of a big machine – planet earth. Until people with convictions are awakened, civilization will be locked in conflict. It’s time to wake the fuck up!” More...

"I've known Fabban and Aborym for over 20 years so it's nice that we finally get to work together on an Aborym record and this is the most forward thinking of all the Aborym records for sure! It's definitely a break from the past and a step forward into the future of a band that has never stood still and never wanted to sound like everything else that's out there. They continue to evolve with every record!
