Housecore Horror Film Festival: C.O.C.

Corrosion of Conformity is one band that could never be found guilty of releasing the same album over and over again. One reason for that is the group has experienced many lineup changes. With each lineup change comes a different sound. Their career can be broken down into periods—each period with a succinct sound. Mike Dean (bass/vocals), Woody Weatherman (guitar) and Reed Mullin (drums) have been the core members of C.O.C. since their hardcore punk rock inception in the early eighties, although all three members have left the band and returned sometime throughout the band’s history.

Starting as a hardcore punk band, C.O.C. released two LPs, “Eye for an Eye” (1984) and “Animosity” (1985) and the “Technocracy” EP (1986). Each record featured a different singer such as Eric Eycke (“Eye For An Eye”), Mike Dean (“Animosity”) and Simon Bob Sinister (“Technocracy.”) They brought in Karl Agell to man the mic on their next recording “Blind” (1991). This album showed a transition from punk to metal and also introduced the singer of their next four albums, Pepper Keenan.

On “Blind,” Keenan sang on the track “Vote with a Bullet,” and was the sole singer on the following albums, “Deliverance” (1994), “Wiseblood” (1996), “America’s Volume Dealer” (2000) and “In the Arms of God” (2005), which saw a greater reliance on heavy blues and southern rock. The band also received its greatest commercial achievement with the “Deliverance” album. After being on hiatus for a few years, the group returned in 2012 with their self-titled effort. This album marked the return of three-piece lineup that comprised the punk-addled “Animosity” record—Dean, Mullin and Weatherman. In addition to the self-titled effort, the three created another full-length “IX” (2014) and the “Megalodon” EP (2012). Although these albums were punky, they still retain much of the groove of the Keenan years.

Back in the spring, Mullin got with Karl Agell to tour as the “Blind” package, which the group performed the said album. Even more recently, Pepper Keenan rejoined Mullin, Weatherman and Dean for tours such as their U.S. jaunt with old buddies, Clutch. Now, the group has a contract with Nuclear Blast records to record another album with Keenan. Before starting another tour with a killer stoner rock package that includes Saviors, Mothership and Brant Bjork and the Low Desert Punk Band, the band stopped off in San Antonio, Texas to play Phil Anselmo’s Housecore Horror Film Festival. Woody Weatherman and Reed Mullin were kind enough to lend a few minutes of their busy schedule to talk about C.O.C.’s history, current tours and what the future holds. More...

Ghostlimb Releasing "Difficult Loves"

Coming February 5th, 2016 on Vitriol Records, Los Angeles band Ghostlimb presents its fifth full-length album: "Difficult Loves." Stream new Ghostlimb track "Treason Fluently" taken off the album in the player below.

Ghostlimb is the trio fronted by Justin Smith, owner of Vitriol Records and mastermind behind Graf Orlock, the movie-obsessed grinders whose new album "Crime Traveler" is also scheduled for a February 5th release on Vitriol. While Graf Orlock mines the language and symbols of Hollywood to create its concept-heavy music, Ghostlimb is Smith's more direct, personal outlet.

In Smith's words: "I feel like 'Difficult Loves' is the most developed in what we have sought to do over the last ten years. True to form, it is about history, politics, and environmental stuff but it brings in a lot more from the literary realm. The title of the record is from an Italo Calvino book. It is about glimpses into normal peoples' lives – more about capturing a feeling than being a crusader of some dialectical change."

New album "Difficult Loves" was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Jack Shirley (Deafheaven, Whirr, Beau Navire). The track listing is as follows:

1. A Gobi of Suburbs
2. Sense of Place
3. Hostility Compelling
4. Wall of Books
5. Difficult Loves
6. Brushfire
7. Folds in the Sheets
8. Nine
9. Addressee Relocated to Cemetery
10. Treason Fluently

Comprising two cassettes from 2011 - the selfsame "Demise Rites" debut and "Tenebrous Summoning" from later that year, both limited to 50 copies but only half of which were circulated on dubbed tapes and Xeroxed covers - the full six-track compilation of "Demise Rites" introduced this solitary Australian to the metal underground with an air of mystery and malignancy.

However, the label that released the "Demise Rites" compilation folded in 2012 not long after its release, which was limited to only 100 copies. Now, immortalized on vinyl, Eucharist shall have its rightful opportunity to infect more listeners worldwide and with ever more diseased tones than before. The track listing is: More...

Spoken Posts "Falling Apart" Video

Spoken has released a music video for the track "Falling Apart" taken off upcoming record "Breathe Again" (due out December 11th on Artery Recordings).

"Falling Apart" is the 2nd single to be released from the album following title track "Breathe Again" (featuring Matty Mullins of Memphis May Fire) which was released earlier this year.

The band comments: "'Falling Apart' was produced by Cameron Mizell and recorded at Chango Studios in Glendale, Arizona. The video was directed by Sam Link of Collapse Studios and filmed in Columbia, Tennessee at a graveyard for business signs. We were fortunate enough to have Trevor Sarver from The Wedding fill in for the video, which helped us out a lot because he is such a stud and has great hair.

"'Falling Apart' is about our past. We all have a one whether we like it or not. If our past currently affects our future, its no longer our past, Its our present which shapes our future. We can’t let our past define us, instead we need to set new goals and ambitions for our lives, free from the insecurities and doubt which cases us to fall apart." More...

Soulstorm Releases Covers Album

The early 90s saw some exciting innovations within extreme music, and Toronto's Soulstorm was at the forefront of some genre-defining and defying times.

Band mainman, Nick Sagias, having disbanded Overthrow - as well as honing his chops within the ranks of the mighty Pestilence - threw caution to the wind and helped pioneer a musical movement that fused death metal with industrial overtones, sounding like a cross between Ministry, Swans, Godflesh, Celtic Frost and Obituary.

Soulstorm has now returned with "Devils Music (Part 1)," a precursor to a forthcoming all original full-length, paying tribute to many of the bands that have influenced Soulstorm through the course of its storied career. "Devil's Music (Part 1)" includes covers from Celtic Frost, Godflesh, Swans, Ministry, Paradise Lost and many more. You can stream the album below, and the track listing is as follows:

Prong Unveils New Album's Track Listing

Prong today reveals the track listing for upcoming album "X - No Absolutes" that will drop on February 5th, 2016. Founder, vocalist and guitarist Tommy Victor also comments about the album:

"Prong is excited about the upcoming release of our tenth studio release of new material, 'X - No Absolutes.' It seems as though our recent records keep getting better and this new recording definitely appears to be a testament to this. Prong has maintained aggression while tackling the challenge of creating classic songs and anthems in the past, but we have gone even a step further with this mentality on 'No Absolutes.' Here you will find a collection of riff intensified crushers, furious barn burners, and fist pumping sing-a-longs.

"Also, this record exhibits even more technical proficiency, showing progress again on all fronts. We feel the listener needs to be excited about every lyric, performance, sound, etc. for the duration of the record. This record throws a powerful punch, yet we feel it to be memorable and in demand of future listens with it's energy, strong production and overall catchiness.

"Our themes on this record will certainly inspire some thought. Whether it be a dose of self discovery, a dialogue of a personal challenge or a viscous finger pointing at what we believe to be a falsehood, those attentive to messages and lyrics in general will be supplied. And we feel they will be compelled to shout aloud with, mimic a riff, sing along or cry out in pain with 'Prong X - No Absolutes!'" More...

Laid In Stone Calls It Quits

Laid In Stone has officially called it quits, with several members going on to form a new group. The band comments:

"To all of our family, friends and especially our fans, it is with a heavy heart that I announce that Laid in Stone is no more. This may come as shock to some of you, but shouldn't be a surprise to many of you.

"We haven't really been active since September of 2014, when our guitar player and good friend Trent decided to walk away from music altogether. We supported his decision, and continue to support his decision to this day, and he will always be a great friend to Kyle, Danny, and myself.

"But his departure left us at a crossroad. Do we continue playing music that we are only kind of passionate about in LIS or do we start a brand new project entirely, playing music that the three of us all enjoy? We chose the latter, hence why this band is no more.

"We want to thank everyone who has ever supported this band. It means the world to everyone who has ever been involved in LIS at one point or another, and we will always cherish the memories we have made touring around the country playing music for you all. That being said, if you are interested in checking out what Danny, Kyle and I have been working on for the past year, go to the My Own Will Facebook page and drop us a like!

"We will be releasing a brand new music video on Black Friday, with our debut EP 'Ghosts' dropping December 14th. This isn't Laid in Stone part 2, but a new band with a bit more focus and direction. We hope you can support MOW in same manner you have supported this band, and we hope to see you all on the road in 2016. We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season." More...

In Mourning Signs With Agonia Records

Agonia Records is proud to announce the singing of Sweden's melodic death/doom metal group in Mourning. The band is currently in studio working hard on the successor to the 2012 "The Weight Of Oceans." Agonia Records comments:

"Hailed by many as the heir to Opeth's melodeath throne, In Mourning was formed in the Swedish woods in the year 2000. Since then the band has evolved over the years striving to refine its sound to what it is today. April 2012 marked the release of the bands third and latest album 'The Weight Of Oceans,' a mythology inspired conceptual story that journeys to the sea. Musically blending a broad spectrum of influences into a foundation of melodic death metal. Thrusting from doomy metal-riffs, blasting drumbeats and deep growling vocals to calm breezes of clean flowing melodies and harmonies.

"After the release of 'The Weight Of Oceans,' the band parted ways with drummer Christian Netzell (also Volturyon, Spasmodic etc.) to later be joined by former Katatonia drummer Daniel Liljekvist. Now hitting the recording studio with new spark in late 2015 to write a new chapter together with Polish record label Agonia Records!"

On the new deal & upcoming album, In Mourning commented: ”We’re signing to Agonia Records for this new record that we’re currently recording. It all feels really good, we get good vibes from the people at Agonia and the label has some of our friends on their roster as well as a lot of other good music. We’re in good company and we have some good things cooking. More...
