Onslaught Unleashes "The Force" In Bristol

British thrash metal is often described as an overlooked are of the genre, with much of the focus being shifted to the American and German scenes. However, the United Kingdom had several heavy hitters such as Sabbat, Xentrix and Acid Reign, though many fans will tell you that the premier British thrash band is, was and perhaps always shall be, Onslaught. After reuniting in 2005, the group has gone from strength to strength, released three stellar albums with another one on the way, however this year they have been celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of what many believe to be their defining album, "The Force," by playing the record in full, including in their home city of Bristol.

As is often the case at The Fleece, the opening band, in this case Ipswich thrash metal veterans Anihilated, took to the stage almost immediately after the doors opened. The group has a sound very reminiscent of Slayer and a true old school thrash vibe that went over very well with the relatively small audience who had turned up early. Though not the most memorable of bands, Anihilated delivered exactly what they promised and gave the crowd a solid and frenzied set of break neck speed metal from start to finish. More...

Pit Stories: The White Whale Amongst Bathers

Ready for a new round of Pit Stories?

This week we've got a tale of a lost and very drunk roadie and a band scrambling to find their wayward companion, who has been up to no good while in an altered state.

Dre Versailles, vocalist of Gatineau, Québec-based band Inire, tells the Hangover-sequel worthy story like this:

Some names of people and places have been changed. The idiocy remains unaltered.

A friend of ours in London graciously offered us his pad while he was out of town so we could crash the night after the show. His door has multiple locks and he gave me specific instructions to lock up when we left in the morning because doing it improperly could result in him being locked out. I don’t need to tell you, this is important.

We partied a bit after the show, responsibly for the most part but our friend and roadie “Mustachio” (yes, that’s what I’m calling him) decided he was due for a solid one. It wasn’t long before we lost sight of him. Nor was it long before the police came poking around about a disturbance of some sort. We told them we knew nothing (which was technically true but also false in the sense that we all had a prime suspect in mind… name starts with “M”). Thankfully they ended up leaving empty handed (and probably a little confused).

Allfather Announces New Single

With the flames barely died down from latest album "Bless The Earth With Fire," Kent metal group Allfather is following it up swiftly with new single, "Inherit the Dust." Seething with aggression and barely-concealed rage, the track offers up a feast of gargantuan riffs, monolithic grooves, and a breakdown big enough to crack the earth.

Recorded with long-time collaborator Jason Frye at his new studio Century Audio, "Inherit the Dust" addresses the West’s seemingly endless obsession with bombing the Middle East in the hope of bringing peace, but being continuously surprised at the tragic consequences of these actions.

Vocalist Tom continues: “War in the Middle East has continued to drive instability and created an exodus of refugees from these countries. Refugees that Europe and the West seem less and less willing to offer asylum and safety. We’ve created a world where in some places children fear clear, sunny days as they know these are the best days for drone strikes to be carried out. Our governments claim we want peace yet offer only obliteration." More...

"Our song 'Jove' is a meditation on religion and dogma, its separation from faith, its affect on our history and perception of morality, and ultimately, the corruption and conflict it begets. Faith at its core, is a beautiful thing, which over time, has been clouded by crooked and misguided credo. This song is a counterpoint to 'Benzaiten', our previous track's themes of knowledge and science, and how these things can be at odds with the obtuse nature of organized religion." More...

Once Human Releases "Gravity" Video

Once Human just released an eye-popping official music video for the scathing new track, “Gravity.” The band's sophomore album, "Evolution," is slated for a February 10th release world-wide through Ear Music and official pre-order bundle packages are also now live here.

Logan Mader states: "We shot this new video once again with director Ron Thunderwood, because he gives us a lot of freedom to be ourselves. He is mostly a one man army, so the convenience aspect is awesome. We love his passion and wanted people to see his versatility and skill outside of a controlled room. We worked with all natural light so we had a small window of time.

"The wind was so strong that we almost lost the drone and Ron had to chase it. We were not expecting the wind and the dust, but we went with it anyway and in the end it really seemed to fit with the lyrics. The lyrics and the vibe of the video are nearly the same: constantly cloudy, unexpected, messy, racing complexities of the mind, and only a moment of clarity.

“This new video also officially marks the debut of Max Karon on guitars. He's an amazing guitarist and played a big role in the creative process with Lauren and I on our new album, 'Evolution.' We are releasing this song as the 2nd single because it shows the more progressive elements within our album, has meaningful lyrics and displays Lauren's diversity as a vocalist." More...

Machinae Supremacy Reveals New Album Details

There's a big difference between video game-inspired metal and actual "video game metal." Machinae Supremacy proves that difference, owning the title with an 8-bit power metal onslaught that sounds like it could have been the symphonic soundtrack to your favorite 80's Nintendo game.

After several independent releases and following with five albums released through international metal label Spinefarm Records, Machinae Supremacy has taken matters back into the band's own hands with upcoming new album, "Into The Night World," hitting stores on December 16th, 2016.

The album is coming via Machinae Supremacy's own Hubnester Records, in collaboration with Swedish music company BD Pop. Pre-orders will be available via iTunes soon. Vocalist Robert Stjärnström states:

"Going back to being independent has truly sparked our creativity and energized us in the most amazing way. Into The Night World is in some ways more simplistic than our last album, but somehow it manages to be both more playful and more sophisticated. There is still a story, but all of that is encapsulated in pure, straight-forward songs, each with its own separate, parallel meaning and purpose." More...

Regarding the song, singer Jeff Martin elaborates, "It's about setting out to accomplish a goal and then having that goal change along the way. And ultimately realizing the new goal was better than what you wanted in the first place."

A perfect rallying cry for action in uncertain times, Martin continues, "it's also about getting out and doing something.... So keep moving forward. Keeping progressing. Keep evolving." More...

All band members were involved in the songwriting from the beginning and FOC has grown together.
