Katatonia Enters The Studio

Sweden's Katatonia has confirmed the recruitment of drummer Daniel 'Mojjo' Moilanen. Vocalist Jonas Renkse recalls:

"We first met Mojjo back in 2009 where his band at the time, Engel, had joined up with us and Paradise Lost on a U.K. tour and we soon realized we shared the same musical background and ideals. We stayed in touch over the years and when Daniel Liljekvist quit Katatonia in 2014 we decided to give Mojjo a call. He has now been with us for well over a year, so far only as a live member, but now is the time for him to join the Katatonia album cycle and most importantly - make his own impression on our new material. We can't wait to see what this will lead to. Love him up!"

Mojjo added: "From 1993 via 2009 to 2014, from today and onward into future battles. I am thankful, delighted and proud to take part in the next phase of Katatonia and I am looking forward to the journey being as giving as it has been for the last 22 years."

Along with Mojjo, Katatonia has entered Stockholm's Studio Gröndahl with engineer Karl Daniel Lidén to commence the recording of a 10th album. The new album is due out in 2016 on Peaceville Records and follows up the 2012 album "Dead End Kings" (reviewed here). More details on the band's new album will be released in the coming weeks. Fleshgod Apocalypse Reveals New Album

The Italian symphonic death metal masters from Fleshgod Apocalypse have revealed the cover artwork to their upcoming album "King." This stunning visualization was created by acclaimed contemporary artist Eliran Kantor. "King" follows previous album "Labyrinth" (reviewed here).

Vocalist Tommaso comments: "This work of art is nothing more than the picture of an old world coming to an end. The author, Eliran Kantor, perfectly interpreted the concept behind the album. The King represents the last stand of integrity and justice in a court infested by traitors, villains, perverts, parasites and prostitutes.

"In an era that looks more like the Middle Ages than the 21st Century, we felt the necessity to express our indignation for the constant loss of values and our despise for mediocrity and commercial use of superstitions.

"The question is, are we sure everything that is 'new' is right? Are we sure we are not losing the perception of what is the real value of things? Perhaps the essence of that King lies inside everyone of us but it's just dimmed by the mist of deceit and (ir)rational superfluity. Perhaps we should all hail the King we have inside." More...

The Moth Gatherer Streams "The Black Antlers"

Swedish atmospheric doom/heavy sludge outfit The Moth Gatherer is premiering a new song online titled "The Black Antlers." The track is streaming beow in anticipation of the band's second full-length album, "The Earth Is The Sky," set to be released November 27, 2015 on Agonia Records.

"The Black Antlers" represents a more blackened side of the album, which, as a whole, experiments with doom, sludge, electro, ambient and post-rock elements. If you like what you hear, be sure to also check out previous track "Pale Explosions" over here.

Commented by the band: "'The Earth Is The Sky' is an album where we tried to take everything as far as we could. There where points during the recording where we honestly spoke about giving up and calling it a day, it felt like we would crumble under the album. But we suffered through. The result is a desperation about how humanity drags it all to the end. Where 'A Bright Celestial Light' was an introvert journey into decay, 'The Earth Is The Sky' is a journey to the highest point on Earth where you sit down and contemplate about our existence while watching the flames from the burning world." Mechanical God Creation Writing New Album

Alpha Omega Management is pleased to announce the signing of the Italian death metal Mechanical God Creation, hailing from Milan. The band's first demo "…And The Battle Becomes War" came out in March 2007, and the same year the group was voted to play on the 2nd stage of Gods of Metal, performing alongside Ozzy Osbourne, Korn and Megadeth.

2008 brought Mechnical God Creation onto the international stages, with the debut full-length album "Cell XII" released in 2009. The second album “Artifact Of Annihilation” saw the light of day in 2013.

Currently the band is busy writing new material for a third album, scheduled to be released in 2016. The band comments: "It is a pleasure for us to be in the roster of Alpha Omega management. This collaboration is important for us because it will give us the opportunity to play on major stages and share the shows with famous bands and increasing the quality of our music and our approach to the show.

Alpha Omega adds: "We're very pleased to announce that these talented musicians and their band Mechnical God Creation are now part of our roster! Knowing them already for years and seeing their devotion on stages, supporting acts like Behemoth and Septicflesh, talks clearly about the fact that this band is made for playing live delivering their energy to their fans, old and new ones. So stay tuned for next announcements!"

Earlier this year Mechanical God Creation toured with Septicflesh in Russia. Video footage of the song “Walking Dead” has been posted from that trek and can be seen below. More...

Inverted Serenity Offering Free Track Download

Coming off a support slot in Winnipeg last week for the "Infernus" tour featuring Hate Eternal, Misery Index, Beyond Creation and Rivers of Nihil, tech death metal band Inverted Serenity is offering fans a free download of the track "Elemental Abyss."

Taken from new album "Integral" released last month, you can stream the track below or grab your copy at Bandcamp here. Inverted Serenity comments:

"Perhaps our most mature and technically structured songwriting on the record can be found in Elemental Abyss. This song comes out of the gate with a full speed technical thrash pace that unfolds itself into larger layered riffs all while maintaining a mid-paced headbanging groove underlying the majority of the song.

"Heavy and polyrhythmic riffs are explored akin to the sounds of bands like Decapitated and Meshuggah. A 7/4 time signature is played while Marcos vocals push the thickeness of the song along. The track is also outro to the album and has the hugest sounding melodies we have built upon in the history of our band. Tomas’ massive sounding screams lead you into the auditory abyss we specifically placed as the final stretch of the album.

"The themes explored lyrically are tied into the unknowing of our oceans on Earth, which can be paralleled to the unknowing of the depths of our emotions inside of us. While we are immersed in this material world structured by the elements, through discernment and letting go of the weight of physical reality, we are immersed in the fractal nature of reality and its infinite depth." Venom Welcomes Fun Fun Fest To Hell

“I thought Venom is on tour and playing San Antonio in January?” This was the type of confusion I read on the Internet concerning the Venom camps. I explained that the “Venom” that’s going on tour is Venom Inc., which includes ex-Venom guitarist Mantas and Demolition Man who took over for Cronos for a short period. The Venom I referred to on my posts is the namesake band featuring the true voice and bass of Venom, Cronos. The band’s appearance at Austin’s Fun Fun Fun Fest marked their only show in the U.S.

Venom was the first headline act that I caught all weekend. On Friday, I missed Coheed And Cambria to make sure I got down to ACL Live in time to catch all of the Skinny Puppy set. The day before Mayhem took precedence over watching either Jane’s Addiction, NOFX or Wu-Tang Clan. Before being treated to the band that coined the term “black metal,” though, I took in a string of veteran, influential hardcore artists. More...

Sacrilege Offering Free Download

Sometimes the greatest gems lay undiscovered, like with Birmingham outfit Sacrilege, founded all thew way back in 1984 by guitarist Damian Thompson and vocalist Lynda “Tam” Simpson.

The female-fronted crust/punk/metal pioneers set a worldwide underground standard for heavy music with a then-unique blend of hardcore punk and metal. Unlike most bands from either camp, Sacrilege’?s compositional approach focused on weaving radical politics (themes such as corruption, inequality, poverty, nuclear war) into metaphorical and intricate lyrical stories, blending the rebellious spirit of punk with the complexity and rich fantastical imagination of metal.

Now that gem is being unearthed by Relapse Records, with a re-issue of 1985 debut album "Behind The Realms Of Madness" set to land on Friday, November 13, 2015. In anticipation of tomorrow's re-issue, today we're streaming and offering a free download of the track "The Closing Irony." Grab your own copy through the SoundCloud player's download button below.

Now fully remastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Hooded Menace, Obituary) with seven previously unreleased bonus tracks and expanded art and liner notes, this edition of "Behind The Realms of Madness" is the first-ever authorized reissue of Sacrilege's landmark debut. Lamb Of God Premieres New Lyric Video "Erase This"

Lamb Of God premieres a new lyric video for the track "Erase This", taken from the band’s latest album "VII: Sturm Und Drang", out in stores via Epic Records and Nuclear Blast.

Check out now "Erase This" below. Says guitarist Mark Morton of the song:

"Lyrically, 'Erase This' deals with negative people and how they can drag you down without you even necessarily realising it. It's about people you may even be close to, but who are stuck in their own self-pity and woe-is-me, kind of victim status. That kind of energy can spread like a virus. Most of us as humans have been on both the giving and receiving end of that kind of attitude, but the older I get, the more I try to focus on not allowing that type of vibe to enter my mindset."
