Jack Russell's Great White Reveals New Album

Jack Russell's Great White represents the next phase of his legacy. On January 27, 2017 Frontiers Music Srl will lay the framework for this new phase with the release of "He Saw it Comin."

"For me this is so much more than a collection of songs, it is the culmination of a lifetime of living. It is about addictions , love, pain and many facets of the human condition. I tend to write autobiographically and on this album I dealt with topics I've never explored," explains Russell of the new record.

In December 2011, Jack Russell's Great White first bared its teeth. Robby Lochner has been with Jack since its inception and they soon welcomed back longtime bassist and friend Tony Montana -this time as a guitar player and keyboardist - and then adding drummer Dicki Fliszar and bassist Dan McNay.

"It's a powerful band," Russell proclaims. "The music is dynamic and I've gone where I've never gone before. Lochner was a catalyst for moving forward. I wasn't sure how the writing would go at first but soon realized the chemistry is beyond words. He's my copilot and one of my best friends." More...

Oni Posts "Barn Burner" Xylosynth Playthrough

Technical progressive metal band Oni recently released heavy-hitting single "Barn Burner," and today you can watch superhuman Xylosynth player Johnny D shred through the track - with two mallets in each hand.

Johnny D explains the design and sound of his unique instrument: "Everyone is always asking me at our shows, 'what the hell is a Xylosynth?' so I'm glad that our fans can finally see the instrument demonstrated clearly.

"It's definitely built and played like a xylophone, but it's essentially a traditional synthesizer which allows me to play with a wide range of sound options. Everything from solo/lead parts to more textured stuff, like when I'm riffing with the guitars. This 'Barn Burner' video is a really good example of what I bring to the table in Oni." More...

The Workhorse III Releasing New Album

Philadelphia power trio The Workhorse III will self-release third album "Closer to Relevance" on December 9th, 2016. The following press release was issued about the impending album:

"Too rock for metal and too metal for rock? More like loud, proud, and hot as Hell! Though The Workhorse III consider themselves a hard rock band, the riff-driven diversity of the music makes them so much more!

"The one certainty is that vocalist/guitarist Lisa Lyne Flynn (aka Lisa Christ Superstar), bassist/vocalist Steve McCarthy, and drummer Eric Perfect (also a world renowned tattoo artist of 26 years) worship at the altar of the mighty riff!

"The members have played in various well-known Philly bands such as Savage 3D, Limecell, and the Pagan Babies and certainly have a punk rock / metal pedigree, but when you put these three veteran musicians together you get a diverse pool of music in which to swim." More...

Evocation Signs With Metal Blade

Metal Blade Records is proud to announce the signing of Swedish death metallers Evocation, with the band looking to release a new album via Metal Blade in early 2017.

Evocation's Marko Palmen (guitars) comments: "We are extremely proud to announce the signing of a new world wide recording agreement with Metal Blade Records. Evocation will from this day on be part of a legendary roster consisting of bands such as Behemoth, Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, Mercyful Fate, etc.

"For us it was a natural choice to join Metal Blade Records since we already for several years had a successful co-operation with them for the licensing of Evocation's first three albums in the USA & Canada. Metal Blade Records is also a label that is widely known for its commitment within the death metal scene, which for us means a lot.

Nidingr Announces New Album

Season of Mist will release "The High Heat Licks Against Heaven," the new album from Nidingr, on February 10th, 2017. Nidingr was founded by Mayhem guitarist Teloch, and named after an old Norse insult meaning "scoundrel" or "villain" or a person of hatred and sin.

Regarding the new album, Teloch comments: "For Nidingr, making an album is a very personal and honest thing that takes a toll on everyone involved. We must be true to an idea and execute it. We do not fuck around.

"As usual Nidingr experiments with new elements on this album too. The goal was to simplify things without losing quality and still keep the elements that Nidingr is known for, which is a challenge by itself.

"'The High Heat Licks Against Heaven' is more raw and in your face, emphasizing the blistering speed and heaviness, which makes it even more extreme. The 7 string guitar is still a big part of the Nidingr sound, as it has been since the first full album in 2005. As always this is the best Nidingr album to date." More...

System Of A Down Album In The Works?

According to a post from Lambgoat, new System Of A Down material is on the way. The band has already been stirring recently, announcing upcoming 2017 live performances at Download in June and Rock Werchter in July, but now it appears an actual album will arrive rather than just reunion shows.

According to Lambogat, System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan is quoted as saying:

"I want everyone on board and feeling good about it, that's what we're trying to accomplish right now. There's a tremendous amount of pressure on us, though, because it's been 11 years – at least 12 by the time it comes out. Our playing ability is better than it ever has been and we're trying new things. We're not trying to make 'Toxicity' Part II, just because it was by far our biggest album. This needs to be something for a new generation of SOAD fans, so everyone can see we're not resting on our laurels."

As usual, the recently solo-focused Serj isn't quite on the same page as everyone else however, as just this week he said this an interview with LA Weekly:

"We're going to get together and see if that's going to be System music or not. And who the fuck knows? If it is, great, and if it's not, then great."

There appears to be some question as to whether any of this music is actually going to be a SOAD album and when its coming, but for now we at least now songs of some variety are actively being worked on. Stay tuned for more album and tour date info as it becomes available.

Trees Of Eternity Streaming Full Album

Today the atmospheric doom metallers comprising Trees of Eternity stream the entirety of their debut album "Hour of the Nightingale" (reviewed here). Now set for international release on November 25th via Svart Records, hear the entirety of "Hour of the Nightingale" below.

Born out of the partnership of singer-songwriter Aleah Starbridge and guitarist-composer Juha Raivio, Trees of Eternity began as a quiet acoustic collaboration but then sprouted into a full band with the Norrman brothers (ex-Katatonia, October Tide) on stringed instruments and the ubiquitous Kai Hahto on drums.

Three years of work on the group's debut album were tragically cut short this spring when Aleah passed away during the album's final post-production phase. The work is now finished, and Svart Records is proud to present it to the world to honor the legacy and artistry of Aleah Starbridge. More...

Pain Of Salvation Announces New Studio Album

Swedish progressive rock/metal innovators Pain of Salvation has announced the worldwide release of the long-awaited new studio album "In the Passing Light of Day" for Friday the 13th of January, 2017 via longtime label partners InsideOutMusic.

Working together with acclaimed producer Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Meshuggah, Strapping Young Lad, etc.) at Dugout Studio in Sweden, the band have crafted an album that sees them returning to the much praised heavier sound, featuring the syncopated rhythms, glorious melodies, and intensely personal themes that Pain of Salvation fans have long loved about the band.

Inextricably linked to the near fatal illness that band-leader Daniel Gildenlöw spent much of the first half of 2014 recovering from, the album is an altogether darker and more impassioned journey. Taking the hospital bed as a narrative hub, the lyrical and musical themes touch on all the conflicting feelings that run through a person’s mind when presented with the prospect of death and the passing of life.

The album will be available as a special edition 2CD Mediabook (including expanded 48-pages booklet, several in-depth texts by conceptual author Daniel Gildenlöw, demo material & band commentary tracks), standard jewelcase CD, gatefold 180g 2LP vinyl plus album on CD as bonus & digital download.

The album artwork can be viewed here: More...

Invisible Mirror Details New Album, Issues Song

Switzerland's Invisible Mirror will issue the new album "On the Edge of Tomorrow" on January 20th (digital release) and February 17th (CD Release USA, Europe) via Wormholedeath Records.

A hard and heavy metal band with a combination of stadium choruses and heavy guitar riffs. A unit playing songs with strong melodies, impulsive drums and groovy bass lines, mixed with progressive sound elements. This was Ricky Bonazza’s vision. Very soon his vision would become reality.

Bonazza stated: "It‘s been a hell of a ride! We really took all the time necessary to work out every detail on the album, to make it sound just the way it‘s supposed to. It wasn‘t always easy but when I‘m listening to it now, it‘s exactly how we have envisioned it and beyond. We‘re really proud of the result. I think it‘s a very versatile album, very musical, almost like a journey because we combine so many different music elements. Our goal was to keep everything natural and organic, there‘s this rawness that makes the record breathe and that‘s also how it was mixed. There are literately no drum samples, triggers or anything like that, all real sounds, all natural. The way we‘ve recorded it makes it sound very dynamic and also adds a certain live feel to it. Kind of a modern/vintage record. Our motto in the studio was „feeling and emotions“. I think we have accomplished that."

As a taste, the band issued a lyric video for the new song "Life of a Stranger," which you can check out below. The track listing for the album is:

1. Frozen River
2. Strike Back
3. Different Ways
4. Believe
5. Conspiracy of Minds
6. Life of a Stranger
7. Hungry for Love
8. On the Edge of Tomorrow
9. Beyond the Sky
10.The loner Biography
