Spook The Horses Announces New Album

Imagine if band members could rotate between instrument positions, because each musician had a proficient grasp on each instrument involved? It would supply a degree of freedom and mutual musical understanding, something that most bands could only dream of. Spook The Horses, from Wellington, New Zealand, are such a band.

Perhaps it's this multi-instrumentalism and virtuosity that explains the vast musical territory that is explored among the band's three albums: while 2011's debut album "Brighter" was defined by sweet post-rock crescendos, 2015's "Rainmaker" was a much heavier affair that would appeal to fans of Cult Of Luna or Amenra. The band's forthcoming "People Used To Live Here," in quiet stark contrast to the aforementioned, sees the band turn the distortion knobs way down, to a mildly saturated crunch tone, at most.

"Writing this album gave us the ability to experiment with song ideas we felt weren't appropriate on our previous albums," Spook The Horses' Zach Meech elaborates. The band's most daring effort to date, "People Used to Live Here" explores the natural and immediate. Written and conceived in relative isolation over several grim Southern Hemisphere winters, Spook The Horses is defining their own sonic trademark with this album: an atmosphere of quiet desolation, raw and real, desperate and unsettling; the post-apocalyptic soundtrack to abandoned places, where people used to live, at one point in time, long ago.

"We deliberately isolated ourselves when writing this album to force us out of our comfort zones," adds Callum Gay. "Most of the songs began as completely improvised pieces that we slowly fleshed and developed over time. We wanted to make sure that immediacy was captured and conveyed in a way we'd never done before. There's much less between us and the listener this time around." More...

Legend Streams "Children Of The Elements"

Icelandic band Legend will release the sophomore album "Midnight Champion" on October 13th via Artoffact Records! Pre-orders are available now at iTunes and Bandcamp, where you get the tracks "Captive," "Frostbite" and "Midnight Champion" as an instant grat song.

With a little under two weeks left until the release of "Midnight Champion," Legend has teamed up with Pop Matters for an exclusive premiere of the final track on the album entitled "Children Of The Elements." Listen to the song over at this location, or even easier just down in the player below.

The new record takes off from where the dark synth stylings of "Fearless" left off, with each song taking the listener into a seemingly different universe from the song before it. From moody, introspective (post)-rock, to dancefloor-worthy hits, to riffing metal-oriented tracks that show off Krummi's peerless voice, "Midnight Champion" is not simply a sequel to "Fearless;" it exceeds it in every way, making good on the promise that that first record was, as Krummi once said in an interview, "only the beginning."

"Midnight Champion" features stunning art, which was specially commissioned from Branca Studio (Danko Jones, Pentagram, Black Dahlia Murder, Swans) and was recorded in Iceland at Studio Neptunus and Unstudios.

Midnight Sets Date For "Sweet Death And Ecstasy"

Today, Hells Headbangers Records set December 15th as the international release date for Midnight's highly anticipated third album, "Sweet Death and Ecstasy." The album will be released on 2CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.

By now, Midnight needs no introduction. Guided by the twisted muse of mainman Athenar since 2003, this Cleveland cult has been slaying the metal/punk underground with a highly addictive brand of lust, filth, and sleaze, subsequently building up a sizable catalog and garnering a rabid fanbase.

While there's certainly fanatics for the band's early EP work, it was Midnight's debut album, "Satanic Royalty" - released to international fanfare in 2011 by Hells Headbangers - that entered the band's name into the annals of "classic." Never one to rush things (nor drop an EP along the way), Midnight continued its underground dominance with "No Mercy for Mayhem" in 2014, further perfecting the signature sound. Now, with the massively anticipated third album, "Sweet Death and Ecstasy," Athenar and co. return with the darkest and most daring effort yet.

As a taste, check out the new track "Penetratal Ecstasy" in the player below, where a link to pre-order the album resides. The track listing for "Sweet Death and Ecstasy" is:

1. Crushed by Demons
2. Penetratal Ecstasy

Dreadful Fate Sets Date For Debut EP

On December 20th, Edged Circle Productions is proud to present Dreadful Fate's debut recording, "The Sin of Sodom," on 12" vinyl.

Originally released on cassette earlier this summer, "The Sin of Sodom" quickly sold out its initial pressing - and immediately upon pressing "play," it's easy to hear why! Aptly titled, the EP is a raucous 'n' ripping blast of classic Teutonic thrash. Whether you want to call it "black thrash" or "early Sodom worship" or whatever, it matters not to Dreadful Fate: these four not-so-gentlemen - Bestial on vocals, Total Destruction on bass, Death Ripper on guitars, and Corpse Skelethor on drums - may obscure their identities, but they certainly don't obscure their intent to raze souls for Hell's rock 'n' roll.

As catchy as it is cantankerous, "The Sin of Sodom" is a full 12 inches of heavy metal powerload, fittingly concluded with a faithful cover of Kreator's "Tormentor." Never repent before Dreadful Fate's "The Sin of Sodom"!

Therion Announces New Album, European Tour Dates

When 15 year old prodigy Christofer Johnsson founded Therion as a death metal band in 1987, little did he know that exactly 30 years later he would put the final touches to a project that will go down in history as symphonic metal’s most ambitious release. While "metal operas" are no longer an unusual creation, this term will forever receive a new meaning on January 26, 2018, when the curtain opens for Johnsson’s lifelong creation: "Beloved Antichrist." The new spectacular brainchild consists of 3 full-length CDs. It’s more than just a concept album, but a complete rock opera with multiple chapters unveiling a sweeping story, partly based on and inspired by Vladímir Soloviov "A Short Tale Of The Antichrist."

With an incredible total of 29 different roles and characters, who all required a unique voice, Therion hired not only a big choir, but also 29 vocalists to bring the epic story to life. With long-time collaborators like Thomas Vikström, Lori Lewis and Chiara Malvestiti, fans will hear the classical Therion vibe but also be able to drown in a magical maelstrom of many new as well as familiar voices. Divided into several chapters, the opera reaches a full length of 3 and a half hours and Therion is currently working on the possibility of bringing the entire production to the stage.

While this monumental undertaking still simmers away in the Swedish production halls, the band has announced a pan-European tour where they will perform some of their new masterpieces live in a classical concert setting. Support comes from Russia’s Imperial Age, Germany's Null Positiv and New York symphonic metal act Midnight Eternal. Don't miss this new milestone in the history of symphonic metal and witness this dramatic staging of the apocalypse and all those brave, sinister and fascinating characters heading towards the end of it all.

More info on "Beloved Antichrist" will be revealed soon. The European tour dates are as follows: More...

Forged In Black Will "Pay The Price"

U.K. metal act Forged In Black issued a new lyric video for the song "Pay the Price." The song appears on the band's latest release "Sinner Sanctorum," an EP issued independently earlier this month.

"Sinner Sanctorum" was produced by Chris Tsangarides. "Pay the Price" is a powerful track full of the band’s customary muscular riffing, intricate leads and soaring vocals and lyrically it carries a forceful anti-war message.

The video was created by Andy Pilkington of Very Metal Art, known for his work with U.S. thrash legends Flotsam And Jetsam and UK death metal titans De Profundis and it’s a remarkable, engaging visual feast. The images combine the terrifying destructive power of modern warfare with a poignant reminder of the loss and personal cost that war always entails. The leaders of our nations are called to account, because while they spout their inflammatory rhetoric it is we who are left to 'Pay The Price'!

Forged In Black is the epitome of great heavy metal. With a heart of steel always at the core of everything the band does, it reaches out and draw in everything that’s great from across the metal map. The unique take on the glorious metal art has never been more apparent than on the "Sinner Sanctorum" EP and "Pay The Price" is one of the standout tracks from that headbanging masterpiece.
