Gnaw Streams New Song "Rat"

As Translation Loss Records prepares "Cutting Pieces," the third LP by New York City-based Gnaw for release at the end of the month, No Clean Singing has undertaken the task of issuing the album's lead track, "Rat" which you can check out over here, or simply by staying here and clicking the player below.

Gnaw was created by vocalist Alan Dubin following the dissolution of Khanate. Closing a four-year gap since the acclaimed second album, "Horrible Chamber," Gnaw's "Cutting Pieces" dredges forth some of the outfit's most unnerving audio assaults yet. The seismic atrocities and haunting intricacies on "Cutting Pieces" leaves an instantly damaging, long-lasting impression, their cumulative decimation producing some of the outfit's most cinematic terror to date.

Gnaw commented on the new single, "'Rat' was conceived in individual heliocentric hallucinations as we each submerged ourselves in separate self-deprecation chambers. We feel it is a perfect album lead-off song. It's visual. It feels like an entrance to a dark recess."

Translation Loss will release "Cutting Pieces" on LP, CD, and digital formats on October 27th; find pre-orders over at this location.

Drakonis Signs With Hostile Media For New EP

Northern Irish extreme metal quintet Drakonis has signed a deal in blood with Hostile Media which will see the extreme metal act release a new record entitled "The Great Miasma."

Guitarist Saul McMichael (also of Irish pagan metal outfit Waylander) comments, "Signing to Hostile Media for this release is a significant mile stone in the bands career. We’ve always believed in what we do, and to have a label share that belief is more validating than words can describe. We knew we had a good chance at getting picked up by a label when it came time to release our first album, but to be picked up for an EP was something we never expected. So here marks the start of our journey down a hopefully successful, yet bloody path for both band and label."

"The Great Miasma" is set for release on December 1st and is a story driven concept EP spanning three songs. Each song takes the listener through a different chapter, following the ritualistic sacrifice, possession and wrath of a young girl to appease an ancient god. Each song will also be accompanied by a music video, released out of sequence. Only when all three videos have been released and played in order, will the story become clear.

The track listing for the EP is as follows:

1. The Great Miasma
2. Let Us Pray
3. Queen Of Swarms More...

The Absence Signs With M-Theory Audio

Florida melodic death metal act The Absence signed on with M-Theory Audio for an upcoming new album in 2018.

The Absence came onto the scene in 2005 with the crushing Metal Blade Records’ debut, "From Your Grave." The album, and its two successive follow-ups, 2007’s "Riders of the Plague" and 2010’s "Enemy Unbound," showcased the perfect mixture of heart-wrenching melodies and skull-pounding aggression truly making the band one of the premiere in the melodic death metal scene. The Absence further ensconced its reputation via several tours supporting some of the biggest names in metal. And then the band seemingly disappeared.

Despite some setbacks in personnel and for some band members a desire to explore new terrain recording/performing with additional groups or working in related fields producing or handling live sound/tour managing for others, The Absence was merely put on hold waiting for the right time to return. Last year the regrouped outfit of singer Jamie Stewart, drummer Jeramie Kling and bassist Mike Leon, along with the addition of celebrated guitar duo Joey Concepcion (Jasta, Armageddon) and Taylor Nordberg (Soilwork, Ribspreader), teased fans with the face-melting “Septic Testament.” The reaction was phenomenal and motivated the band members to continue writing and recording the epic return and be absent from the scene no more. Pit Stories: Attack Of Captain Big Boobs

This week's edition of Pit Stories comes from U.K.'s Dirty Thrills...who had a bit of "dirty thrills" themselves when they got the call to support Europe in 2015.

It seems the now notorious "Captain Big Boobs" made overtures and then attacked vocalist Louis James at a gig. Here, let the band tell you all about it:

We were honoured when we recieved the call from Europe, that we would be supporting them on several European dates back in late 2015. The shows were absoloutely incredible, with every show finishing on a massive high, the usual antics would take place, massive amounts of drinking and whatever else was done right after performing, and hotel mischief are all a given. But there was one particular show that stood out (as far as mad fans go anyway). Tt started off a normal morning, get up hungover and nurse it with the warm beer from the night before, then head down for some breakfast with the rest of the band and team. While tucking into mountains of bacon, eggs and beans we received a large number of picture messages on our band page. We opened them up and were greeted with a shit load of topless pics from this lady who was apparently staying in the same hotel. More...

Lark To Issue Debut EP "Lark"

Progressive sludge/stoner metal band Lark is set to release the debut, self-titled album on October 31st. The band features former members of Bright Curse and Sail In Between.

Lark is the overdue collaboration of two French brothers, Raph, former guitarist and lead singer of Sail In Between and former bassist of Angher Incorporated and Zach, former drummer of Bright Curse. The elder resides in their native south of France, while the younger moved to London in 2009 to explore the UK music scene.

Zach evolved in the stoner, psyche and hard rock tones in recent years while Raph followed his love for hardcore and prog, but their tastes meet in a rock and metal avalanche of riffs, grooves and all that is heavy. They shared a vision of music that combines massive and textured sound with the groove of their early metal influence.

The two brothers rapidly found ways around the distance between them and started their first creative collaboration at the beginning of 2017. The EP came to life thanks to the help of Robin Mariat of Grey Matter Studio (Lyon, Fr), Chris Painter of Red Roof Sounds (London, Uk), Marco of Marc&Cheese (London, Uk) and Jake Read of Living Room Studios (London, Uk).

The band is set to release their first EP "Lark," a new blend of metal inspired by Mastodon, Opeth, Gojira, Black Peaks, Russian Circles and more this fall. The D-day is set for Halloween 2017 when the extensive network of VIPs will meet and celebrate at a location not yet disclosed. More...

Omotai Streams "A Ruined Oak" In Full

The band commented: "'Nuclear Alchemy' is the sound of an eager beast let loose from its cage at last. A song of violent fire, impending doom and of necks craned in ecstasy. A dissolving injection of power and force into the coagulated veins of Black Metal and a first glimpse into the abyss that shall be opened in the beginning of 2018. Meanwhile, stand by for conflagration."

Procession To Unleash "Doom Decimation"

Chilean doom metal act Procession will release the third full length album "Doom Decimation" on Halloween via High Roller Records. The album is the long awaited follow up to the highly touted "To Reap Heavens Apart" (called by some the Chilean "Epicus Doomicus Metallicus").

Originally formed in 2006 by guitarist/vocalist Felipe Plaza in Chile's cultural heart, the coastal city of Valparaiso, Procession follow the path of tradition laid out by the masters Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus and Candlemass - without mercy, without compromise! Procession's debut album "Destroyers Of The Faith" (2010) did not only take the doom metal scene by storm, but also convinced parts of the metal mainstream. The band's follow up record "To Reap Heavens Apart" in 2013 was hailed as one of the best pure doom metal works.

Main man Felipe Plaza has since relocated to Sweden. However, the new record called "Doom Decimation" was recorded in Chile. Felipe explains: "I had this dream that was to record an album as much as old-fashioned as we could and see what we could get from it. That formula, total isolation and gathering up in the same place living as a band for a bit more than a month, worked pretty well to me on 'To Reap Heavens Apart.' I don't think I even checked on studios in Europe at all for 'Doom Decimation.' Plus I'm a bit tired of people calling Procession a 'European' band, being that the South American factor has been vital for it's existence and development. An address means nothing, we ARE Procession from Chile."

"This has been the easiest album to date," continues Felipe, "from music to lyrics and concepts. It might be a deciding album, in a way that I can't wait for a musical revelation like this one to hit us this way again. I mean the single 'Lonely Are The Ways Of The Stranger' was composed just a couple of months after recording 'To Reap Heavens Apart' and kind of decided which way this new album was gonna go..."

A Sound Of Thunder Pays Tribute To Catalonia

A Sound of Thunder has released a metal version of the Catalonian national anthem "Els Segadors (The Reapers)" in the form of an official lyric video whch can be viewed in the player below.

"Els Segadors (The Reapers)" will appear on the band's upcoming seventh studio album "It Was Metal." The song was not originally planned for release ahead of the album, but the band has decided to release the song in light of current events in Catalonia.

Catalonia, an autonomous region in the east of Spain, is currently in the midst of political upheaval surrounding a long-standing independence movement. On October 1, 2017, an independence referendum was held with the support of the Catalonian regional government, despite the Spanish courts' declaration that the referendum was illegal. Massive Spanish police action was taken to close polling places, resulting in violent clashes, with at least 800 people hurt. Of those whose votes could be counted, 90% backed independence. A general strike in Catalonia on Tuesday, October 3rd could bring much of the region to a stand-still, while some observers are expecting Catalonian regional president Carles Puigdemont to make a declaration of independence in the coming hours or days. Genus Ordinis Dei Enters "Halls Of Human Delights"

Italian symphonic death metal act Genus Ordinis Dei posted a video clip for the new single "Halls of Human Delights." The song is lifted from the upcoming second full-length album "Great Olden Dynasty" coming November 24th via Eclipse Records.

“The song is about God’s creation of sin, and the fact that sins have been made to seem delicious when committed” states vocalist Nick K. “As more people commit sins, more souls are sent to the prison that God created for them until they are redeemed. We decided to represent the theme of the song in a luxurious but decadent hall as a metaphor to the joy of committing sin, but also to imply the feeling of emptiness when one’s sins are redeemed.” Guitarist Tommy Mastermind continues, “We decided to revisit this abandoned location we used for a previous photo shoot because it was perfect. We didn’t expect any problems, however when we arrived, there were dozens of people shooting an actual movie! The movie production troupe was using our hall as their control room, and just outside they were shooting some horror scenes. We were desperate because that was the only day for us to shoot before departing on tour with Lacuna Coil. Luckily some people on the production crew had heard of the band before, and were sympathetic to our dilemma. They moved their gear to the far side of the room and we literally shot the video while they were shooting their movie! It was a difficult but memorable experience!”

The album features ten pummeling tracks of symphonic death-metal mastery, including Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) on guest vocals for the song "Salem."

The album was produced, mixed, and mastered by Simone Mularoni (Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody, DGM) at Domination Studio. It sports the following track listing:

1. The Unleashed
2. You Die In Roma
3. Cold Water
4. The Flemish Obituary
5. Sanctuary Burns
6. Morten
7. ID 13401
8. Halls of Human Delights
9. Salem (Feat. Cristina Scabbia)

Greyfell Inks Deal With Argonauta Records

French doom metal act Greyfell inked a deal with Argonauta Records. The band is set to release the sophomore album "Horsepower" through the label in early 2018.

Equally influenced by violence and hypnosis, Greyfell is able to blend black metal, psych and hardcore echoes, drawing influences from the sonic heavyweights like Type O Negative, Sleep and Kickback, with a sound that proves to be celestial, telluric and all around massive.

"Horsepower" explores new territories with the arrival of a fourth member on keyboards and synths, thus going even further into massive drones and ghostly textures. Produced entirely on its own, this new record marks the beginning of their collaboration with Argonauta and pushes the boundaries of heaviness and incantatory atmospheres.

"There will be a light in the dark, there will be quiet before the storm, there will be harmony in chaos." More...

Chrysilia To Release "Et In Arcadia Ego" Debut

Mythology, reality, illusion, disillusion, dreaming, abandonment in an album inspired by one of Greece's most magical snd influential places: Arcadia. Chrysilia is a soundtrack symphonic folk metal band based in Athens, Greece. The Negative Bias To Release Debut Album

Can we expect something ambitious moving from the late 90ies Black metal inspiration? Does atmospheric black metal finally break the borders? I.F.S. (ex Alastor) as the main founder of The Negative Bias realizes his own visions with the musical help of S.T. of the seminal project Golden Dawn (active since 1992) and Rauhnact. The symphonic musicianship is now at the service of this new project, which is set to release the debut album "Lamentation of the Chaos Omega" on December 1st via ATMF.

Mixing futurist pessimist, cold perceptions and a visionary spectrum of primeval fear, Austria's The Negative Bias looks over the usual terrestrial wall, raising an even more disturbing assumption on the novel of the future. Hate can be easily analyzed by the human science but opening the portal of a new experimental universe may raise new monsters.

The musical approach of this album consists of wisely alternated atmospheric and ambient layers over symphonic black metal that doesn’t run the risk to sound too nostalgic, but that aspires to paint a new flux. There is no feeling of being merely lost in the cosmos but following a precise conceptual storyboard and complex songwriting, still lot has to be told by the music itself.

The track list and cover art can be found here:

1. The Golden Key To A Pandemonium Kingdom
2. Journey Into The Defleshed Paradise
3. Tormented By Endless Delusions
4. The Undisclosed Universe Of Atrocities
5. Cryptic Echoes From Beyond Dimensions
6. And Darkness Should Be The End Of Cosmic Faith More...

Fall of Summer Festival 2017 - Torcy, France

September 8th - Day One

Vive le Fall of Summer Festival 2017! My girlfriend and I arrived in Paris the day before the festival jet lagged and without a plan on how to get to the town of Torcy, the home of Fall of Summer Festival. So we did what any metalhead might do in this situation, we went to THE metal bar in town and for Paris, that bar is Le Black Dog. Located a stumble away from the Seine River and in the middle of a popular food and entertainment district, you wouldn’t even know it’s a metalhead sanctuary from the outside.

After sheepishly stepping inside, the bar was packed with plenty of other metalheads. Black metal was blaring over the sound system and I observed there was a solid beer selection and plenty of Fall of Summer posters and drink coasters strewn about. After attempting to ask the bartenders and then realizing there was somewhat of a language barrier going on, I said “fuck it.” I shoved four of the Fall of Summer cardboard beer coasters into my girlfriend’s purse and decided that we’d figure it out the next day.

The first day of the fest, we decided to call our cab driver that drove us from the airport to take us to Fall of Summer and after a 40 minute drive, we arrived in Torcy. After winding through a few country roads, the all familiar seas of tents became visible. Our driver asked us where he should go to drop us and I told him anywhere near the mass of black t-shirts…duh! After a relatively short wait in line with several dozen of anxious festival attendees (approximately 1 hour), we were inside of Fall of Summer. Our first mission was to get adult beverages and food and to accomplish that we had to purchase “tokens.” After securing enough tokens for a day, we were able to complete our mission and finally set out to see our first band of the day.

Necrowretch, a death metal band from France no less, played a tight and aggressive set under a cloud filled sky. The crowd was small, but it was obvious that people were still making their way into the fest while they played. In fact, it was evident that at some point, there was going to be rain in the forecast. We weren’t worried, we had ponchos!

After Necrowretch, we started exploring the festival grounds. What a better place to start our exploration other than the merch area. There were about a dozen or so vendors, plus a bar and a café to peruse through. In addition, and most importantly, there were umbrella covered standing areas to chill…err…I mean escape from the rain that would dominate most of Friday’s festivities. The second band of the day was the blackened jazz version of Shining. Also hailing from Norway, this version was a last minute replacement band when Saint Vitus unfortunately had to drop off the fest. Without a doubt, The Shining were one of the more eclectic bands of the entire fest, they poured on the saxophone around the same time the rain ramped up its performance.

As the rain continued to soak everyone to the bone, that didn’t stop us and the rest of the festival attendees from checking out Gaahl’s Wyrd. Performing a swath of material from Gorgoroth, God Seed and Trelldom, Gaahl commanded a ten song set that made everyone forget about the rain for the time being. At one point, and I apologize for not remembering which song it was, but he sang in French to which the hometown fans responded in earnest. Ending his set with “Prosperity and Beauty,” the ever so eloquent Gaahl saluted with a sincere “Merci beaucoup” before exiting the stage.

After being soaked to the bone, the weather unfortunately got the best of us on this first day of Fall of Summer. As we made our way towards the exits, we were able to watch a couple songs from Blasphemy’s set. Covered from head to toe in chains, spikes and black leather, Blasphemy blasted the crowd with sheer brutality. As a teenager, I remember purchasing their debut album on Wild Rags Records and I, like most that followed them back then, are probably surprised by their rise to becoming a cult legend among extreme metal purists. Well, that was it for day one of Fall of Summer, hopefully the next day would be drier. More...
