Dark Tranquillity Cancels North American Tour

Swedish melodic death metal veterans Dark Tranquillity has announced that their planned headlining tour of North America with Obscura and Nailed To Obscurity has been cancelled. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"While it's not a huge surprise with the state of things, we just want to remain clear that this current North American tour is officially canceled.

"We do have new US booking representation and are working on a new updated North American tour plan. If you've bought your tickets refunds will be from where you purchased them ( venue, ticketmaster, etc).

"We deeply apologize to our fans for the circumstances and the trouble of having to go through the refund process. This isn't something we wanted to happen. We will continue to keep you all informed of upcoming news and information."

Cadaver Releases New Music Video

Back with a vengeance and hell-bent on destruction, Norwegian death metallers, Cadaver, are back in business and ready to reign. "Edder & Bile," the first full length from this band’s new incarnation of Anders Odden’s original, extreme metal vision, will be released on November 27th via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, the band releases the music video for the second single, "Reborn."

Anders Odden comments, "'Reborn' is one of those songs that just jumps out and grabs you as a listener. The way nothing in the song repeats is a symbol of time itself. The lyrics are about not being afraid of who you are and that you should claim your own throne in life. So many things will go wrong with every one of us and I wanted the video for the song to both represent our current time and become timeless. In 1896, the famous Norwegian artist, Theodore Kittelsen, depicted the Black Death as a spirit in human form as a woman named 'Pesta'. She plays with our lives, making us feel fragile while the pest doctor symbolizes our defense against death. It is there to remind everyone of our origins, every human has the shadow of a beast. We are all gonna die at the end no matter our triumphs - only death is real. But, while we wait for the end we should be celebrating the post-apocalyptic world we are heading into." More...

Fuck The Facts Posts "Ailleurs" Video Online

It’s been half a decade since Fuck The Facts' last release, Juno nominated "Desire Will Rot", but the band continues right where they left off, offering up another slab of their patented “bastardized” grindcore full of all the twists and turns that fans have come to expect. Their new album, "Pleine Noirceur," set for release on November 20th via the band’s very own Noise Salvation label.

Leading up to the release of the new record, the grind trio introduces their next single "Ailleurs" via its premiere along with an exclusive interview at Invisible Oranges. The music video itself can also be seen below.

The band comments on the track:

"It's a 0-1-3-4 feel. We needed a short grindcore song for all the back-up goalies out there."

Fuck The Facts has amassed a respectable discography over the years, and this new offering joins the 7 LPs and 6 EPs released to date. The considerable amount of time the band has been working together shows in the natural chemistry that courses through each of the 12 tracks. Fuck The Facts comments on the album:

"We took a long break before working on this album, I feel like it’s a collection of bits and pieces; old and new, short and long. It’s us working back into the groove, just in time for a pandemic. This album also could have easily been 3 EPs, you really have to listen to the whole thing in order to fully enjoy it. It opens the door for what is next." More...

Emily Hingle Details New Book "Bandroom"

In February 2015 on a cold Carnival night, Emily Hingle got the idea to document the practice spaces of the bands and musicians of New Orleans. She had already visited some spaces where bands spend hours upon hours practicing and perfecting their craft, and she was inspired by the amount of hard work that goes into creating the music that is eventually performed on stage in front of dancing fans. These spaces and the massive effort that happens within them, she believed, deserved part of the glory garnered by the music itself.

"I feel like people love the aesthetic of music: going out to the show, grabbing drinks at the bar, dancing with your friends. That’s obviously an important aspect of music. But not as many people want to hear about how it gets made. I find the creation of it to be enthralling. Where it’s made, how long it takes, all of the emotion, arguments, and relationships that goes into it. Music isn’t made in a vacuum or out of nothing. It takes a lot of life."

Over the course of the next five years, Emily and her photographers visited nearly 50 distinct rehearsal spaces, jam rooms, studios, and homes to photograph the spaces and interview those who work there. In Band Room: New Orleans, the reader will be a visitor in 35 such spaces speaking with the likes of Tarriona Ball from Tank & The Bangas, Big Freedia, Sweet Crude, Kumasi, The Lost Bayou Ramblers, Robin Barnes & Pat Casey, Flowtribe, and many more.

Band Room: New Orleans is 296 pages of photography and text. It is self-published and available in hardcover and softcover versions. Emily Hingle is a Louisiana native; born in Lafayette, raised in Mandeville, and living currently in New Orleans. She has always had a passion for her state’s culture, especially music. She began interviewing bands while in college at the University of New Orleans for various websites, then she started writing for Where Y’at Magazine in 2010.
"I really want Band Room to be the beginning of something bigger. I feel like it is already. New Orleans, however, will always be the best because it’s home."

"Band Room: New Orleans" is currently available for purchase at Emily’s website https://culturecreep.net/, and it will be available in local retailers beginning in November just in time for gifting season.

Soilwork To Release New EP In December

Today, Swedish metal force Soilwork shakes the modern world in its foundations with the announcement of their most daring yet ambitious project to date:

On December 4th, the band will release the new EP, "A Whisp Of The Atlantic," via Nuclear Blast. You can preorder the EP in various formats

To give an idea of the overwhelming energy driving Soilwork into the creation of their masterpiece, the band has released the first single of that EP today, "The Nothingness And The Devil". Check out the video below.

Guitarist David Andersson states: "Between 'The Nothingness And The Devil' is a song about how the old concept of a patriarchal God doesn’t work anymore, and how everyone with any logic reasoning must accept that we have to create our own deities, if we need them. Or if we don’t, we’ll have to accept the fact that our lives are essentially meaningless unless we are able to find our meaning and make ourselves feel fulfilled. The video also hints at the emasculation of a male god, and how gender shouldn’t be a factor in any form of religious discourse anymore. Perhaps this is the time to question your beliefs and accept that no God will correct the mess that we all have put ourselves into."

Soilwork's musical and their philosophical approach on the new EP does not only close the circle of the "The Feverish Trinity," but also invites the listener to dive deep into the most primal element: Water. More...

Keiser Uploads New Single

Norwegian black metal band Keiser has released a second song from their new album, "Our Wretched Demise" entitled, "Far From Human." You can check it out below.

Keiser says about the song: "‘Far From Human’ is an obvious choice for our second and final single before the release of ‘Our Wretched Demise’. While it's short and to-the-point, it also hints at the more progressive and melodic elements that are on display on the rest of the album. It's a song about the lack of empathy and responsibility shown by certain world leaders and war lords. Some of them certainly seem far from human at times." More...

Majestica Shares New Lyric Video

In 2019 the Swedish power metal heroes Majestica released their debut album "Above The Sky" and it became a huge success within the metal community. Now in 2020 they are back with not only a new album, but a special treat for their fans: a Christmas musical power metal album entitled "A Christmas Carol." It’s pure symphonic power metal in the true Majestica spirit along with elements inspired by the likes of Twilight Force, Rhapsody, Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman and John Williams. Today, the band have released a video for the first single, titled "Ghost Of Christmas Past." You can check it out below.

Chris David comments: "If you know the story of ”A Christmas Carol” I think the title ’Ghost of Christmas Past’, tells you what the song is all about. But if you don’t, it is about Ebenezer Scrooge's past, what happened in his early years and how he became the greedy lonely man he is. The music shows off many elements you can expect from the record. It is a symphonic power metal Christmas musical album so of course you will hear sleigh bells, glockenspiel, recognisable Christmas melodies and an appearance of ”The Majestic Choir”. But it is also a Majestica album and I promise you that you will hear that as well!" More...

False Memories Signs With Frontiers Music SRL

Frontiers Music Srl announces the signing of False Memories, an Italian metal quintet, for a multi-album deal. The band is the latest signing from the label's A&R initiative, Frontiers & Beyond.

The band was originally formed in 2015 by guitarist Francesco Savino and soon started working on original material. In 2016, the band released a self-titled EP which included four original tracks and one cover. As time progressed, the band’s soundscapes got more mature and headed towards a more goth rock/metal sound. Invigorated by their new sound, the band started to work on its first full-length release, Chimerical. Originally released independently in January 2018, the album featured eight previously unreleased tracks and three of the original songs from the debut EP, for a total of 11 original songs.

In October 2018, singer Rossella Moscatello joined the band and the band eventually released a new edition of the Chimerical album, including three bonus tracks sung by Rossella.

False Memories are currently putting the finishing touches on their new album, and Frontiers' debut, the musical style of which is leaning towards a prog influenced gothic/doom metal vibe. For this new album, the composers are both Savino and Moscatello, with a line up featuring new drummer Emanuele Cossu, second guitarist Moreno Palmisano, and bassist Gianluca Zaffino.

"We worked hard on the production of this record and it has been very exciting to get positive feedback from people who have heard it. Fate has decided that we had to work with an Italian record company, Frontiers! It is an immense honor for us to join the roster of a label of this prestige and it is a source of great pride to have been chosen. So stay with us and keep following us because all of this has been possible thanks to the album that we are finishing in the coming weeks. 11 tracks of intense gothic/doom metal with strong prog influences! Get ready and see you on the road hopefully soon!” says frontwoman Rossella Moscatello.

The band's label debut is tentatively planned for the summer of 2021.

Korpiklaani Reveals New Album Details

Korpiklaani today announce their new studio album "Jylhä," which will be released on February 5th via Nuclear Blast Records. "Jylhä" (which has no direct translation, but can be described as majestic and also wild or rugged in a strong, beautiful way) will be available as digital album, CD, black vinyl and grass green vinyl [limited to 300 pieces]. The pre-order will start soon.

In celebration of the happy news, the band has released a music video for the first single "Leväluhta," which can be viewed below.

Singer Jonne states: "'Jylhä' is not just a battering heavy metal record, it's also our most volatile full-length album to date. For example, some of the new songs feature energetic punk rock influences and there are even some audible laid-back reggae-rhythms, like our first single, 'Leväluhta.'"

"Leväluhta" (or Levänluhta) is a spring in Isokyrö. The remains of approximately a hundred Iron Age bodies have been found buried there, and it remains unclear why the deceased were laid to rest in the spring. In the story, the narrator himself is one of the buried, floating in the lap of clear water beyond time and knowledge. The video tells us a fictional story about what may have happened in the mystical Leväluhta. More...

Scardust Posts New Music Video Online

Israeli progressive / symphonic metal band Scardust has unveiled "Gone," the epic conclusion to their latest two-part music video saga. The new clip – which completes a narrative that began in the video for its companion track, "Stranger" – can be viewed below. "Gone" and "Stranger" can also be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp and other digital platforms starting today.

Scardust's new record, Strangers – set to be released on October 30 by M-Theory Audio – is an intriguing concept album built of complementary song pairs working from the outside in. The first taste of the band's unique vision for their second full-length release was unveiled in September, through the music videos for "Tantibus II" and "Addicted."

Says vocalist Noa Gruman, "When someone close to your heart is leaving you and you’re breaking down and feeling that you’re left to face the world on your own, the shared memories and moments that you had become 'Stranger.' Being neglected is a fragile and exposed feeling, so in this one song we chose to lose the choir and strings and strip things down to the core musicians. In the video, they are playing the song, but never together, in an obscure, unrealistic location. They are surrounded by concrete pillars and the scene is continuously spinning, leaving the viewer feeling dizzy and uncomfortable. Lyrics pop out here and there to highlight specific parts, and there are also hints of water by the musicians' feet and paint cans lying on the ground. One may wonder why, and it will all be revealed in the other side of the story, told from the side of the neglector."

Mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Devin Townsend, Arch Enemy), "Strangers" was written and composed jointly by singer Noa Gruman and composer Orr Didi, who also collaborated with Gruman on Scardust's full-length debut, Sands Of Time, and their 2015 EP Shadow. The album features guest appearances from German folk musician Patty Gurdy, as well as vocals by the Hellscore choir and England’s prestigious Westbrook Hay Prep School Chamber Choir.

Cradle Of Filth Postpones Livestream Show

Vampiric masters of extreme metal, Cradle Of Filth, had been scheduled to perform a live stream concert from St. Mary's Church, Colchester Art Centre, England on the auspicious date of October 30.

It had been promoted as a vicious, delicious, certainly mal-nutritious performance showcasing the band’s new keyboardist and backing singer, as well as a slew of graveyard hits both past, present and possibly future. In short, the ultimate Nightmare before Halloween!

Unfortunately, those plans have come to a screeching halt, as Cradle Of Filth frontman Dani Filth explains: "Due to the ongoing Covid crisis and the uncertainty of travel, we unfortunately need to move the date of our live stream event. With band members residing outside of and throughout the UK, there was a real chance of quarantine or travel issues. The new show date is February 20, 2021. All tickets remain valid and everyone who bought one is automatically entered in to win a custom Cradle Of Filth Midian guitar worth over $2,000. Sorry for any inconvenience, the show will be an epic event not to be missed!”

Bloodsoaked Necrovoid

Latin American countries are home to a distinct kind of dark extreme metal. It is one that’s uniquely raw and demonic whether we are speaking about early Sepultura or Sarcofago from Brazil, Criminal from Chile, Mortem from Peru, or Shub Niggurath from Mexico. True to this wicked spirit is new blood squeezed from the soil of Costa Rica by the name of Bloodsoaked Necrovoid. Since forging together in 2018, the death/doom ensemble has been relatively prolific, having released several demos, songs on a compilation and a split. More...
