Quiet Riot Drummer Diagnosed With Cancer

Frankie Banali, the longtime drummer of heavy metal legends Quiet Riot, has revealed that he has been battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer since April of this year. A statement from the drummer reads as follows:

"I just want to let all of my friends and fans know what’s going on with me and why I have unfortunately missed some appearances this year. Since April 17th I have been battling stage four pancreatic cancer.

"The original prognosis was very scary. I had quite a battle on my hands and it took a lot, but I am thankful to say that after several rounds of chemo and other treatments I am on the mend. The road ahead is not going to be easy but cancer has met its match and I plan to continue fighting. I wish I could have been with you all at every Quiet Riot performance as this is the first time in 38 years I have ever missed a gig.

"Please know that if I had been able to fly on a plane and play a show nothing else would have stopped me. I am feeling much better and stronger now.

"I intend to play the Quiet Riot concert at the Whiskey A Go Go on Saturday October 26th and to continue touring in 2020 with Quiet Riot, so I hope to see you there. I appreciate all the fans that support Quiet Riot by coming to shows and I hope you will all continue that support as well as keeping me in your thoughts and prayers.

"Peace and Love" - Frankie Banali

Darkest Hour Announces U.S. And European Tours

Washington, DC metalcore pioneers, Darkest Hour, announce a run of West Coast tour dates for December, with a nine-city co-headlining tour alongside Unearth.

Offers Darkest Hour, "2019, we are not done with you yet. Just added some shows on the West Coast with our dudes in Unearth! We have seen all the amazing feedback from you all, and we have listened. Both bands will be playing FULL headlining, rip'n, face melting sets. We have had a ton of fun all over the world with Unearth and we are stoked to slide these dates in before the end of the year. We have some huge things in store for 2020 but if you live in these cities come out and party like its 1999 with us and Unearth!"

A month later, Darkest Hour will kick off 2020 with a return to Europe for a sixteen-city special 25th anniversary tour, where they'll be joined by special guests Fallujah, Bloodlet, Une Misere, and Lowest Creature.

The band comments, "It is with extreme excitement that we announce what we hope to be one of many tour's next year celebrating our 25th anniversary! Over these past twenty-five years we have toured with both new and established bands and have always worked hard to make our tour packages diverse and interesting. This tour is in keeping with that tradition. Fallujah is ripping progressive death metal who have had our attention for a while, can't wait to see these riffs live. Bloodlet is a very special band to us. One of our early influences, it is EASY to say we would not be a band (or at least not the same band) without their influence. We grew up going to their shows and it's a joy to be able to share the stage with them. We got to see Une Misere play this summer and were impressed, insanely heavy, Icelandic mosh of the highest form. Lowest Creature is a killer blend of classic metal elements we all love translated with a new and distinctly Swedish twist. Oh, and you know we will have a few surprises planned for this set special 25th anniversary set. See you in the pit!"

Unleash The Archers Posts New Lyric Video Online

In "Heartless World," Unleash The Archers show the world what they are made of. The band manages to give the original glam metal track by Teaze an unexpected, modern power metal twist. Combining that with an astonishingly wide range of vocal melodies, Unleash The Archers surprise and bewitch the listener yet again. A clean guitar intro makes you feel almost melancholic, but when the second chorus hits, at the very least, you’ll be tapping your foot. "Heartless World" describes how everything can become too much from time to time, and that sometimes all you need is to unplug and recharge your energy. Watch the lyric video accompanying the single below and lose yourself in an FM headphone high!

Unleash The Archers on "Heartless World," fresh off the new EP Explorers:
“The second single is a cover of a song by a Canadian hair metal band from the 80's called Teaze. They are not super well known, but that's why we gravitated towards them. The song “Heartless World” has a really interesting arrangement and can't seem to decide if it's a ballad or a rock opera. Unlike “Northwest Passage”, where we played around with it quite a bit, we left “Heartless World” almost completely as is, and only changed a few small things like solos and vocal melodies. We thought it would be a great companion piece to “Northwest Passage” and really round out the moody Explorers vibe." More...

Baest Discusses New Album "Venenum"

Death metal has proved to be one of the most popular sub-genres of metal over the years. It seems you can't even get out of bed nowadays without tripping over a death metal band. Don't let this deter you however, there's as many great death metal groups today as there was during the young days of Morbid Angel and Obituary, from all over the world and with their own take on the style. One such band to burst on to the scene and immediately get tongues wagging hails from Aarhus, Denmark, armed with fresh ideas and an old school mentality. That band is Baest.

At the first stop of the Hell Over Europe tour in London, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Baest guitarist Svend Karlsson and vocalist Simon Olsen to discuss their new sophomore album, "Venenum," which was released only a year after their debut, "Danse Macabre," why concepts are such a big part of the band, how to make old sound new again and much more. You can check it out in full below.

Diamond Oz: Welcome to London. Is this your first time in the UK?

Svend Karlsson: No, we did a tour with Decapitated. *calls for Simon to join the interview*

Simon Olsen: Oh shoot!

Svend: Yeah we did a UK tour with Decapitated in January, we played the 02 Academy in Islington.

Oz: Cool. Well obviously the new "Venenum" is out now. I was listening to as much of it as I could before I buy it. How would you say it's different from "Danse Macabre"?

Svend: There's been some involvement in the song writing. We've been trying to make it a bit more progressive and trying to make the lyrics fit better to the actual riffs.

Simon: Yeah, I guess so and I believe that we've also worked a lot with the concept and writing music after the concept, not just the lyrics, so it's like it fits together better.

Svend: For example, the song "Gula" is about gluttony and over indulgence, so we made it really slow and really heavy, so that's a great example. "Vitriol Lament," the first song is about...

Simon: The whirlwind of lust! The circle of lust, so it has a very hectic, kind of swirling opening riff.
