Like Moths To Flames Releases New Song

Like Moths To Flames have premiered new track "Shallow Truths for Shallow Minds" via Tattoo.com over at this location. You don't have to go anywhere, however, since the song is also right in the player at the bottom of this article.

"'Shallow Truths for Shallow Minds' is definitely an oddball for the record but I think people who appreciate the more aggressive side of the band will gravitate towards it. Mixing melody and heavy is sometimes easier said than done but I think this is a great representation of the different things the band can do," said singer Chris Roetter.

The track is taken from their upcoming album "Dark Divine," out November 3rd through longtime label Rise Records. The album was produced by Erik Ron at Grey Area Studios and mixed by Caleb Shomo (Beartooth). "Dark Divine" is available for pre-order over here. The track listing is below:

Tucked away in Perth, Western Australia, Jupiter Zeus are the very definition of a band who seem to have come from nowhere... but its arrival - laden with walls of guitar, hypnotic rhythms and almost psychedelic vocals – is far from quiet.

From the stage or simply blasting in your car; the sound of Jupiter Zeus is as monolithic and grand as its namesakes.

Acid Witch Streams New Song

Today, the ever-singular Acid Witch revealed the new song "Mutilation Mansion." The song hails from the band's third album "Evil Sound Screamers," which will see digital release on Halloween via Hells Headbangers; the CD and vinyl LP formats shall be released by Hells Headbangers in the new year. Check out "Mutilation Mansion" in the player at the bottom.

Although their catalog is relatively sparse, Acid Witch should need no introduction. It's been seven long years since the release of their classic second album "Stoned." That album saw Acid Witch take the bewitching formula of the "Witchtanic Hallucinations" debut to greater, more entrancing lengths, swirling about a heady (and headfucking) brew of gutted doom-death riffage and spooky synth embellishments.

Now on "Evil Sound Screamers," those synths don't so much take a lead role as unite every thread across the record, flitting in and out of perception like a fever dream (or an LSD nightmare) and otherwise torquing all the gutsfucking riffs that now stomp 'n' sway with a rousingly anthemic quality. They are authentically analog synthesizers, too, just like the beloved sound design of those classic horror movies. Additionally, the acute placement of samples further threads everything together in a manner most filmic. And that's to say nothing of the production here, which finds a hazy, crazy balance between murky and 3D.

Before you know it, the 38 minutes of "Evil Sound Screamers" is up and you're immediately pressing "play" again and again. Now more than ever, there's really no other band out there quite like Acid Witch: Evil Sound Screamers is the band's magnum opus, and long may its reign continue. This is the season of the Witch!

The track listing is:

1. Scare Tape
2. Mr. Beistle
3. I Hate Halloween
4. Cheap Gore
5. Nain Rouge (The Red Dwarf)
6. Enter At Your Own Risk
7. Mutilation Mansion
8. Hardrock Halloween
9. Nightmares In A Damaged Brain
10. An Evil Sound Screaming More...

Vangough Post-Impressionist Video Game Battles II

Last week, MetalUnderground.com premiered the new series we call "Vangough's Post-Impressionist Video Game Battles" in our ongoing credo of providing a wide range of entertainment to our readers - but always anchored through the love of metal music in all its forms.

The best representation of this theme is through Oklahoma City progressive metal act Vangough, which blends nearly all forms of entertainment within its fantastic form of music, including nods to classic games (see sophomore release "Game On" (see review here))

A few weeks back, vocalist Clay Withrow approached us with an idea to exclusively run a new feature series on classic video games. Armed with a very eclectic, and seemingly endless array of games in the collection, the band produces video clips of classic game battles. It is a unique and fascinating look into a form of entertainment that practically envelops nearly all in the metal world, young and old. We hope you like it! More...

Skalmold Releases "Höndin Sem Veggina Klórar" Clip

Iceland's Skalmold issued a video clip for the new single "Höndin Sem Veggina Klórar," which you can check out in the player below. The song is part of a split single with Finland's Omnium Gatherum (which released its half, which can be heard over here).

Bibbi commented on the track: "To me this song sounds a little bit different, and I like that fact very much. Don't get me wrong, it is clearly a Skálmöld song, but somehow it's just ... fresh? Yeah, for a lack of a better word, let's go with fresh. I am also very happy about the lyrics, and the concept. The title translates to 'The Hand That Scratches The Walls' and is written from a standpoint of a man who is caught with his family inside their burning farmhouse.

"It might sound as a total cliché but I truly feel this is one of our best songs to date. And we totally need it since the Omnium Gatherum song on the flip side could easily make us look very bad in comparison. What a killer band they are!"

The 7" split single will be available on November 24th via Napalm Records, which features the following track list:

Side A: Skálmöld - Höndin Sem Veggina Klórar
Side B: Omnium Gatherum - Blade Reflections

Gnaw Streams "Extended Suicide"

New York City-based Gnaw is streaming the new song "Extended Suicide" over at No Echo at this location. More conveniently, you can check out the song in the Soundcloud player at the bottom of this article.

The song comes from the band's third studio album "Cutting Pieces" coming from Translation Loss Records on October 27th.

Gnaw was created by vocalist Alan Dubin following the dissolution of Khanate. Closing a four-year gap since the acclaimed second album, "Horrible Chamber," Gnaw's "Cutting Pieces" dredges forth some of the outfit's most unnerving audio assaults yet. The seismic atrocities and haunting intricacies on "Cutting Pieces" leaves an instantly damaging, long-lasting impression, their cumulative decimation producing some of the outfit's most cinematic terror to date.

Gnaw vocalist Alan Dubin commented on the new single:"'Extended Suicide' is one of the harsher industrial tracks on the album. We might get flack for the lyrics because they'll be taken the wrong way as pro-suicide which is not quite the intention. The song, to me, is about loneliness -- 'imagined suicide' -- procrastinating and being all talk but never getting around to the deed."

Pre-orders for the album are over at this location.

Over The Voids Details New Album

Known for his works in Medico Peste, Owls Woods Graves as well as live basist of Mgla – sole member The Fall presents his solo project Over the Voids. The debut self-titled album will be available on November 17th via Nordvis Produktion. Pre-orders can be made over here. Check out the first single "Never Again Will They Hunger" in the player at the bottom.

Over The Voids was founded on one man’s vision of a mid-nineties black metal revival. However, this work of art far transcends simple nostalgia or tributes paid to ages past; while many bands are content with leading an existence as living homages to other people’s innovations, this solo project has an entirely different intensity to its artistic fire. The musical and lyrical aspects along with their aesthetic representation are forged in synergy to ponder the riddles of mortality.

Commanding the centre of attention is the distinctly mixed twin-guitars, acting much like a conductor’s baton as they dictate where to bring the music and its accompanying mood. The melodies are the focal point, merging the icy darkness of Transylvanian Hunger with the dreamy woodland landscapes of Bergtatt. Despite the catchy melodies, Over The Voids is more the type of music to which one would drift on some flight of the mind, rather than bang one’s head.

The track listing is:

1. Battle of Heaven
2. Ghosts Lay Eggs
3. Prophet of the Winter
4. Never Again Will They Hunger More...

The Killerhertz Detail New Album

Danish modern hard rock act The Killerhertz will release the second album "A Mirror's Portrait" on November 17th via Dr. Music Records, distributed internationally by Soulfood.

"A Mirror's Portrait" is once again produced by Flemming Rasmussen (Metallica, Rainbow, Blind Guardian). It will appear to fans of both traditional and modern hard rock.

Three years after the debut album "A Killer Anthem," the Kastrup natives have once again entrenched themselves in the Earplug Studio and recorded a sparkling follow-up with ”A Mirror’s Portrait." Led by singer and guitarist Thomas Trold, the band, founded in 2011, has once again produced a strong hard 'n' heavy album, which bridges the gap between the 80s and 90s heavy metal scene that takes influences from both Metallica or Megadeth and modern hard rock and adds a pinch of Danish rock à la Pretty Maids. Check out the music video for the song ”Teenage Rebellion" in the player at the bottom. The clip was directed by Jan Klausen. More...

Raspail Begins Writing New Album

Italy's mysterious act Raspail has officially started writing the highly anticipated second full-length album.

The debut album "Dirge" was released through the German label Sick Man Getting Sick Records in 2016 and received very good feedback from around the world.

Featuring ex and current members of Rome's veteran bands such as Klimt 1918, Novembre and Room With A View, Raspail has initially named early Katatonia, Paradise Lost and October Tide as main influences, but the harsh yet eerie sound filled with drone, post rock and nu-gaze vibes has invited critics to draw comparisons with such acts as Earth, Nadja and Bell Witch.

It will not take Raspail long to capture your interest, but with each new spin "Dirge" will reveal new details that make their discovery worthwhile.

The band is also contemplating the possibility of playing a few selected live shows in 2018. Interested parties are welcome to get in touch with the band via their official channels. More...

Handing Garden Issues "Hearthfire" Video Clip

Hanging Garden posted a music video for the new song "Hearthfire," the latest single from the new album "I Am Become," which drops on October 27th via Lifeforce Records. The song features Amorphis vocalist Tomi Joutsen.

"Hearthfire had a strong visual impact for me, and I started creating the idea for the video from the music. Most of the video has been filmed for 8mm with a camera from 1967 and film hand processed. Making the video was a great opportunity to combine new and old technics with a symbolic story and atmosphere to support." comments Julia Alakulju.

“I Am Become” sounds familiar on the one and surprising, yet challenging on the other hand. Again there are well-known guest-vocalists to find on the record - such as Tomi Joutsen (Amorphis) or Niko Kalliojärvi (Amoral, Humavoid).

The band's fifth full-length album "I am Become" focuses thematically on an inexorable aspect of life – as well as it’s antonym: death. The approach to the theme is personal - the feelings of loss, yearning, and cherishing the deeds and words of those no longer here. The songs contain epitaphs and obituaries in the band’s native tongue, to keep the full meaning and connotations of the words intact. The powerful voices of familiar guests vocalists from bands such as Amorphis and Amoral can also be heard on the album, adding to its dark and compelling atmosphere. More...
