Pit Stories: Downing A Helpful Health Potion

Ready for a new pit story? This week's comes courtesy of guitarist Mark Drastrup from Denmark-based thrash outfit Essence. Mark shared this story of getting elbowed in the throat at Wacken but downing a handy health potion to get back into the action:

I was at Wacken in 2006 where I went to see Soilwork on the Party Stage I think. I had just discovered them a short time before the festival and I was really excited for the concert, but I didn’t get to see that much of it, because a big moshpit broke out after a short time (I think it was during the song "Nerve") and suddenly I was involuntarily caught in it.

I’m not the tallest guy, so my head is always a bit exposed in moshpits haha. Out of nowhere I got punched in the throat by an elbow, by accident of course, and everything went dark for a few seconds (that’s why I don’t sing haha). Luckily I wasn’t seriously injured, but breathing was a bit hard for a while and I was quite dizzy.

Some of my friends took my back to our camp, where I got to lie down for an hour or so. Then I got up and took a health potion/beer and went back to the festival area. It was my first festival ever, so I didn’t want to spend it lying in camp. I guess that the moral of the story is to always wear armor in moshpits haha.

Anybody else have any great Wacken mosh pit experiences they'd like to share? Let us know about your head banging mishaps below!

Essence signed to Spinefarm Records earlier this year and also just released 3rd album "Prime" worldwide. The album was produced and mixed by Danish producer Rune Rask, and will be supported by new tour dates as the band just signed a booking deal with Live Nation Finland. More...

With this concept I wanted to take a certain lyrical approach that a listener or reader could easily connect with and understand yet leave a certain mystery, not towards the song it self but towards the listener’s own perspective of their lives." Everthrone Deals With "Loss"

In the second time this month, Metal Underground.com is proud to host the world premiere of South Carolina progressive metal act Everthone's newest music video. Back on October 6th, the band unleashed a stream of "Consciousness". Today, the band deals with "Loss" with the superb ballad from the upcoming sophomore release "The Dawning," which is set to drop via Divebomb Records on October 30, 2015.

For "The Dawning," Everthrone has once again teamed up with producer Don Debiase of Lava Room/Studio D in Cleveland, OH, creating another innovative and bold approach to the band's dark wave-driven metal.

On "Loss," the band deals with the debt all men must pay....death. Just like the song, the video showcases the band's classier side, with the band all spiffed up and keyboardist Chris Carland performing on a 1922 Steinway Grand Piano.

In celebration of the release of "The Dawning," Everthrone will perform the album in it's entirety at Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte, NC on November 27th.

The track list for the album is:

1. This Great Expanse
2. Consciousness (see music video here)
3. Children Of A Dying Sun
4. Under A Burning Sky (streaming here)
5. Crimson Gold
6. The Anarchist
7. Loss
8. Masquerade

Victory Records Catalog Pulled From Spotify

The saga of Spotify versus the music industry continues, as the streaming site has apparently removed access to all music from the Victory Records catalog, prompting the label to make this statement:

"Victory Records’ catalog of music was pulled from Spotify last night as a result of Spotify not properly paying publishing revenues due to Victory Records’ artists in blatant violation of US Copyright laws.

"Spotify also pulled down a very large number of albums that Victory is not the publisher for proving that their internal systems are inadequate. We asked that our catalog not be pulled, that we would amicably work with Spotify, and they haphazardly removed our content regardless. 53,000,000 streams, as per Spotify’s statements, were identified with no publishing royalties being paid by Spotify.

"Late yesterday, Spotify sent over a document giving them mechanical clearance to use our music. We could not sign said document for a variety of reasons, most importantly, that it would put us in direct violation of our agreement with Audiam. Spotify knows we are in business with Audiam and were essentially asking us to breach/ignore that agreement. More...

Saint Diablo Releases "Devil Horns And Halos" Clip

Virginia metal band Saint Diablo has premiered a new music video for the title track off upcoming sophomore album “Devil Horns and Halos.” The video was directed by Scott Hansen at Digital Thunderdome Studios and is available below.

Guitarist Justin Adams states, “Ironically, 'Devil Horns and Halos' was the last song we wrote for the album, we actually finished it in the studio as life threw us some pretty significant detours… I got divorced, Tito’s mother passed away, and shortly thereafter I was diagnosed with cancer.”

Vocalist Tito Quinones elaborates, “The song is about balance in the face of opposites. Things like love/hate, hope/despair, angels/demons, etc… We were facing some difficult decisions at that time, and I think our state of mind is reflected in this song.”

The song is taken from sophomore album, “Devil Horns and Halos,” which is set to be released on November 13 via Eclipse Records, and was produced by Tim “Rumblefish” Gilles (Anthrax, The Misfits, ill Nino) at Big Blue Meenie studios in Jersey City, NJ.

Saint Diablo has also been confirmed on this year’s edition of South for the Win-Tour. The band will be supporting Seasons After and Everybody Panic starting November 21 through December 13. More...

Deseized Premieres "Patterns Within Patterns"

Deseized might hail from Oslo, but this ain't no lo-fi black metal band! Formed in 2003, this group brings you an intense and crushing sound tempered by both melody and the swagger of hardcore.

Debut album "The Trophy of our Demise" was issued in 2009, garnering some very pleasing reactions, which was followed three years later by sophomore effort "Architects of our Demise” through Negative Vibe Records.

Now in 2015, the band is ready to unleash a new EP titled "A Thousand Forms of Action" - and we've got an exclusive early listen of a track off that impending release. See if you can fathom the "Patterns Within Patterns" below!

Recorded, mixed and produced by the band at different studios, "A Thousand Forms of Action" is the result of two years of meticulous songwriting and a strong determination to push Deseized's sound to new and higher levels. The band comments:

"This time around we produced the whole thing ourselves, and leaned on everything we have from experience and knowledge to create the coolest release we have so far. The music and the approach to it is more mature and more thorough and well thought through than before, and we have chosen to reach a little further out of our box than we are accustomed to. The process itself is somewhere between gung-ho guerrilla and soberly, calculated method." More...
