Monuments Reveals New Album Details

Transatlantic progressive metal outfit Monuments have announced their fourth album, "In Stasis," which is set for a release April 15, 2022.

"We approached this album without the intention of a specific concept. However - three songs in, what was being written ended up sharing a common theme. This feeling of being stuck in the middle, a feeling we experience throughout our lives - within friendships and relationships, love to hate, life to death, belief or non-belief, being in power to total defeat, isolation to freedom. Over the past 2 years, we have been faced with many of these trials, and these struggles can be heard throughout the record. This record is a culmination of our greatest triumphs and our deepest struggles. We hope it resonates with you, and brings you closer to equilibrium. We'd like to thank guests Neema Askari (Form Subtract, ex Fellsilent, ex-Monuments), Spencer Sotelo (Periphery, King Mothership), and Mick Gordon (DOOM, Prey, Killer Instinct) for enhancing the record with their unique perspectives." states Monuments.

Voivod Unveils "Syncho Anarchy" Music Video

Canadian progressive sci-fi metal innovators Voivod are getting closer to release their upcoming studio album "Synchro Anarchy," out worldwide on February 11th, 2022 via Century Media Records. Therefore, a new single from it is being released today, so make sure to check the album’s title track in a powerful video created by Syl Disjonk / 5600 K productions below.

Voivod drummer Michel “Away” Langevin comments: "After coming back from the European tour with Gwar at the end of 2019, we took a break and got back together in early 2020 to record some new ideas and improvisations. After finishing one of these sessions, while untying my running shoes, I had a flash of a rhythm where I would skip one beat every bar. I told the band I had an idea and walked towards the drums but I stepped on one of my shoelaces, missed a step and almost fell on the drum kit.

"Everybody laughed, then I played the beat, which Chewy recorded and named ‘Away’s Shoelace Incident’. This gave Snake the idea to write about these strange timings where somebody would stop to tie up his shoe only to be closely missed by a flying wheel of a car. At one point Snake had shorten the title to ‘Shoelace’ but I noticed in his lyrics the words Synchro Anarchy and told him it would be a great name for the song.

"When we were done recording the songs we all thought it would also be a good title for the album. It is really representative of the planet we live on and the way we had to build the LP out of snippets of ideas like a huge puzzle.

"For this single, we asked our good friend Syl Disjonk, who did the videos for ‘The End Of Dormancy’ and ‘Kluskap ‘O Kom’, to film the band and work his magic. So here it is, the title track of the new album, enjoy!" More...

Mantic Ritual Shares Mercyful Fate Cover

Reunited thrashers Mantic Ritual have unveiled a visualizer video for their cover of Mercyful Fate's classic, "Black Funeral." The video for "Black Funeral" can be viewed below. The track is the B-side of the 7-inch vinyl release for their recently-revealed single, "Crusader." The limited-edition of 300 collector’s 7-inch vinyl with "Crusader" - the band's first new music in 12 years from the reunited group featuring original members Dan Wetmore (vocals/guitars), Jeff Potts (guitars), and Ben Mottsman (bass) alongside new drummer Carlos Cruz (Warbringer, Machine Head, Power Trip) - as the A-side and “Black Funeral” as the B-side is set to be released this Friday, January 28th.

"I can't think of a metal band I like more than Mercyful Fate; melodic, dark, and shockingly heavy at times," explains guitarist/vocalist Dan Wetmore. "We've covered ‘Doomed by the Living Dead’ and ‘Gypsy’ in the past, but I wanted something direct and short. ‘Black Funeral’ really delivers. Heavy as hell, straight to the punch and then it ends with two beautiful leads. Perfect. We wanted to do this largely note for note, true to the original, just a bit faster. My vocal style has changed a bit. I scream less, and I sing more. And my range is much bigger. This seemed a challenge, but it came out in just a few takes. All hail Satan!!" More...
