Circa Arcana Releases New Lyric Video

With two well-received singles out already, Circa Arcana are putting out a lyric video for "The Tower" off their upcoming EP entitled "Bridget Viginti." The five tracks on the record take inspiration from the occult and tarot, exemplified in the track names. The “arena metal” track "The Tower" is no exception, and tells one hell of a story as you listen closely to its lyrics. Guitarist Johny Serna explains it in further detail:

"The song ties in clean ambient hooks with a melodic chorus, a plethora of synth and string production and finishes with a death punch of a breakdown. It really shows off the multitude of influences based within our music and captures a little of everything for the listener to enjoy! The song started off with the opening lead. Originally all I had written was probably the first 30 seconds to the track and after I showed the rest of the guys we quickly figured out a pattern for it and knocked it out. Frankie actually came up with that breakdown for it, still one of my favorites. The entire song is a headbanger from start to finish. Personally, my favorite thing about this song is when we play it live people can easily catch on to the chorus and sing along."

Helsott To Release New Album In May

California’s Helsott are kicking off 2022 with their first single and the title track off their forthcoming concept album "Will And The Witch," mixed and mastered by J-F Dagenais (Kataklysm, Ex Deo), being released this spring through M-Theory Audio. Since their incarnation in 2019, Helsott have amassed a respectable discography including two EPs and two full-lengths. They have toured throughout North America and Europe along with performing on several festivals including Wacken Open Air.

On this new record, Helsott goes back to their roots along with adding orchestrations composed by the band. Overall, "Will and the Witch" will have more thrashy elements and fewer orchestrations than their previous work, which results in a bit less complexity than earlier albums, yet keeps the essence intact while catching listeners off guard with new influences befitting of the album’s theme, but maintains the group’s underlying core that definitely is still Helsott. Vocalist Eric Dow explains further:

"The album is a concept recording. It’s basically a fan fiction story about how Billy The Kid became the fastest gunfighter in the wild west. There are southern vibes with banjo and fiddle. There are Native American vibes with hand drums and flute. There is thrash metal, power metal, death metal, and even acoustic campfire parts. We think there are enough flavors on this album to keep any listener engaged and wanting to listen over and over again. The title track explores the relationship between the two main characters on the album. Musically it’s melodic and thrashy, but also catchy and fun so I think this is a great song to introduce the listener to the full-length."

The video for "Will And The Witch," created by Raf Ortega (Ayreon, Subterranean Masquerade) can be viewed below. The full album "Will and the Witch" is expected in May 2022 and will feature a roster of many special guests. More...

Haken Reunites With Original Keyboardist

Progressive rockers Haken are excited to announce the return of the band’s original keyboard player, Pete Jones, to the fold. He will make his debut on the band’s upcoming live dates in support of their most recent album "Virus," released in 2020 to much acclaim.

The band comments: "We are truly thrilled to welcome Pete back into Haken. Pete is a phenomenally gifted musician and, in the short time since his return, he has breathed new life into the band, inspiring us to explore fresh and exciting musical territory. This is a new era for Haken and we cannot wait to share it with all of you!"

Pete adds: "I'm thrilled to rejoin the fellowship, after following the band closely over the years and watching them grow. It was great to reconnect with Rich on the Nova Collective record, and then to work more closely with the guys over the past couple of Haken albums. I can't wait for the next chapter, and am pumped to be a part of it!"

Zadra Posts New Lyric Video Online

Frontiers Music Srl recently welcomed Zadra to their roster. Zadra is a continuation of the label's relationship with the talented guitarist/vocalist August Zadra, who the label has worked with as a member of Waiting For Monday and Dennis DeYoung's band.

Zadra’s debut album, "Guiding Star," is the start of a new band centered around the talents of August, a Los Angeles based singer and guitarist. The album will be released on February 18th.

A lyric video for the track "Rise From The Fire" is out today. You can check it out below.

"Guiding Star" is a compelling collection of hard hitting rock songs and ballads that feature August's powerful and emotional vocals as well as his fiery guitar playing. The album was produced by the multi-talented Alessandro Del Vecchio and features a slew of talented contributors. Del Vecchio handles bass, keyboards, and backing vocals (and contributes some rhythm guitar to "Won't Let Your Love Take Me Down") and Jelly Cardarelli plays drums. Additionally, Jeff Scott Soto (background vocals, plus a songwriting contribution on "Take My Hand"), Dennis DeYoung (keyboard solo on "Take My Hand"), Jimmy Leahey (acoustic guitars on "A Matter Of Yesterday"), Andrea Seveso (additional rhythm guitars on "Won’t Let Your Love Take Me Down"), and Martin Jepsen Andersen (who contributed to the songwriting and additional rhythm guitars on "Escape The Rain") all appear. Guillermo De Medio, Pete Alpenborg, and Jan Akesson all contributed to the songwriting and added additional keyboards as well. More...

Týr To Release New Live DVD

Týr delivers a stunning show performed live with the Symphony Orchestra of the Faroe Islands. This special event was recorded at The Nordic House in Tórshavn, the Faroes on February 8, 2020. This seismic live album will be available on Metal Blade Records on 2LP (gatefold, with insert, poster, digital download), a 2 CD/DVD digi-book set with 12-page booklet, and everywhere digital music is sold on March 18, 2022.

"Working with the Symphony Orchestra was without a doubt one of the highlights of our careers," admits vocalist Heri Joensen. "The feeling of sheer sophisticated power behind us was extraordinarily uplifting. We were awed by how well the songs worked in a symphonic setting. 'By The Sword In My Hand', for example, seems to take on a new life. It is based on a Nordic traditional melody, and the lyrics are about Sigmundur Brestisson, Faroese Viking chieftain who, on behalf of the king Olaf of Norway, forcibly Christianized the Faroes. We are very excited to finally release a live DVD, CD and LP, and even with the incredible new artwork by Gyula Havancsák, that excellently captures the epic atmosphere of the event. In other news, our team is working on tours, festivals and shows, so please stay tuned and patient. We hope to see you all soon!" More...

Venator Shares New Single

Austrian heavy metallers Venator have revealed the new track "Manic Man." The track is the second to be revealed from the band's debut album, "Echoes From The Gutter," set for international release on February 25 via Dying Victims Productions.

Despite forming in 2016, it was not until 2020 when Venator made their recorded debut with the EP "Paradiser." Nevertheless, the three songs contained therein were an incredibly auspicious first start, showing Venator as a band seemingly thawed out from 1983, so authentic and skyward was their songwriting. Wrapped in a uniquely retro-futuristic production, Paradiser pointed the way forward for Venator, and the buzz began to build.

Graced with yet another amazingly era-authentic artwork courtesy of frontman Hans Huemer, "Echoes From The Gutter" takes the melody and moodiness of its no-less-inconsiderable predecessor to uncharted heights (and depths!) of glory, both grimy and gleaming. Right from the record’s very first seconds, Venator burst and bristle with an electricity that’s positively, stunningly addicting; anthem after anthem is doled out with almost laissez-faireease, each hook hoisted heavenly and then brought back down to – yes – the gutter. It’s the kind of album that walks that fine line between street-level and upwardly-mobile, much like heavy metal’s forerunning bands of the early 1980s, when the landscape of conquest from club to stadium was still a special dream.

Anyone pining for the 1983/’84 peak of the likes of Tokyo Blade, Grim Reaper, OZ, Witch Cross, Heavy Load, and even Judas Priest but adding to that hallowed lineage rather than plagiarizing it, you’ve found your new modern classic in Venator’s "Echoes From The Gutter." More...

Scorpions Posts "Rock Believer" Music Video Online

German hard rock/heavy metal icons Scorpions has released a new music video for the song, "Rock Believer," the title track from their forthcoming album, which is set to be released on February 25th. You can check it out below.

Commenting on the title track of their new album, Klaus Meine, both singer and author of the lyrics, said: "Over the years, we've heard people say lots of times that rock is dead. But there are still millions of rock believers out there all over the world that prove them wrong. Our fans are the best in the world. We'll see you someday somewhere out there, because we're Rock Believers, just like you."

The song is a fundamental commitment to rock music, composed by a band in the style of their outstanding, globally successful recordings of the 1980s.

Meine says, "The new material sees us return to our roots. We simply wanted to reactivate the original Scorpions' DNA - great riffs, strong melodies. We tried to transport that live feel to the studio with all five of us playing in one room again at last. Having Mikkey Dee in the band is like a shot of fresh energy and real fun." More...
