Former Emperor drumemr Bård "Faust" Eithun has officially parted ways with Dissection. According to an official press release, Eithun made the decision after a meeting with Dissection guitarist/vocalist Jon Nödtvedt in Stockholm, Sweden. Bård "explained that he has been tense about what impression the whole deal with Dissection would do to him in practice and that he has come to the conclusion that he can't stand behind and live up to the demands of Dissection's Satanic concept, with the inevitable result that he has to leave the band. A decision Faust and Jon made in mutual agreement after discussing the problem."

"There are only two alternatives for us: doing Dissection wholeheartedly and with complete devotion, or not at all," explained Jon.

Faust explained: "There came to a point where I felt I had to compromise my own philosophy of life and maybe even go against some of my personal views and ideas. Evidently, the concept and the ideology was more emphasized and underlined in the band than I was originally aware of. In my eyes, the Satanic concept got totalitarian and it shaped the rest of band. Eventually, it all reminds me more of a cult than a band with individual musicians. My intention with Dissection was primarily musical; I viewed it as an honor to perform the old classic tracks as well as the new ones Jon has made during the last years. For me, anything else comes secondly, and it would be wrong to put a lot of my time and energy into something I couldn`t fully represent. Not to mention, it would be a waste of the rest of the band`s time and energy as well.

It`s very unfortunate that it came to this ending and I wish Jon the best of luck finding musicians that can stand behind the band 100%.”.

Jon explained that he has tried to be as clear as possible when emphasizing the concept of Dissection to Faust. "Faust should definitely have realized from the start what we were about. Dissection is a Satanic band, period."

"I don't ask from anyone to be anything else than himself", Jon continued, "but if a member of the band isn't capable of living up to the ideology and giving the band his full and wholehearted dedication, then I see no other option than us going separate ways, really. I can only show Faust my appreciation for being open and honest about it at an early stage, because now we can go on and look for someone who is right for the band before we record our forthcoming album. I further wish Faust the best of luck for the future."

As a result of Faust's departure, Dissection are currently without a permanent drummer. Jon concluded: "We are right now looking for someone who is just right for the band, musically and ideologically."

We'll to be honest, I dont think faust leaving the band hurt it a bit. Faust is a good drummer, dont get me wrong, but I think there are many better than him. Personally I think Jon should resolve whatever conflicts he has or had with Ole Ohman, and get him back into the band. And about the whole Satanic thing; If you have been reading interviews with Jon or keeping track of the whole re-birth of Dissection, it is apparent Jon dislikes the whole current black metal scene, and plans to bring the scene back to the way things used to be. Another words, black metal is slowly leaking into the mainstream, and there are many black metal bands that are getting caught up in trends and forgetting the true meaning of this genre. Black Metal from its start was not about getting drunk, having a great time and playing music. It was about ideals conveyed through music, and this is exactly what Jon is trying to do. Black Metal is not your have a good time, Death metal and Thrash, but a lot more darker and based on personal ideals, not following trends, and most of all the "Satanic" Left Hand Path" beliefs. I agree with Jon 100%, that the current scene is filled with posers, that do not practice what they preach, and do not have an understanding of what black metal is. Faust leaving, is only for the better, and now Jon will be able to find a full line up of musicians that share his beliefs. Jon is a man of his words and I hope Dissections return will give a lesson to those false black metalers, as to what black metal is really about. I know many people will argue to what I have said about the meaning of Black Metal. So I am going to end with a quote by someone who perhaps knew the meaning of Black Metal more than anyone, Dead. " Black Metal is something all ordinary mortals should fear, NOT make into a trend!"

i find it funny that faust just got out of prison for burning a church, but one of the reasons he isn't playing in dissection is that he's not "satanic enough" basically.

An old black metaller here to clear up any falsehoods you kids might be coming to. Dunlop, my boy - Faust was in jail for murdering a homosexual not burning a church. Get your facts straight...
