About The Writers: September Activities
Metalunderground.com is run by a variety of individuals who are passionate about both metal and the wider musical world in general. Many of our staff members are also involved with side projects going on outside of the website that you may be interested in checking out. For September I'll again be highlighting a sampling of our current staff activities and their involvement in the metal and music community.
Todd (aka EdgeoftheWorld) won an award this summer from the Society of Professional Journalists for "Critical Condition," his weekly newspaper column on television and pop culture. Additionally, his Web documentary "To Serve And Protect" on the operations and funding of the Grants Pass, Oregon police department won a first place award from the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association in the category of "Best Multimedia Element."
Frank (aka Progressivity_In_All) is currently playing shows around Nashville, TN in support of the songs with his rock band, Flight Plan. You can check out Flight Plan’s music here.
Ollie (aka Diamond Oz) is still working on his book, "Empire Of The Extreme," which should be finished by January. The book has evolved from its original intentions and looks at metal music in Britain's social impact and current standing, as well as the history behind it. Expect to hear why the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal was so important, the often laughable relationship British religious and political groups have with metal, and how young British metal fans have adopted not only American music, but also their accents. He also has rough plans for a book about misanthropy, detailing his own views as well as the general attitude of people towards the media, celebrity, making friends and self-loathing, in an honest but humorous style. Working titles for this book include, "Shut Up Or Piss Off" and "Everyone's A Bastard: A Misanthropist's Guide To Everything." In addition to writing, he also joined a local hardcore band called, The Christpunchers, which is currently working on the first CD, "Crocodile In Outer Space."
Doug (aka deathbringer) continues to tweak the forums and secure exclusive content and premieres for Metalunderground.com.
Dan (aka AutumnsEyes) has recently upgraded his studio with a new computer, and some more recording toys. You can check out Dan’s “Beneath the Woods” recording studio here. Storyboarding for the new Autumns Eyes music videos has been a work in progress, but with great results so far. Dan has also been playing with the idea of putting on a live show with Autumns Eyes and guests sometime next year deep in the woods of New England.
Ty (aka xFiruath) has interviews going live soon from band’s across the metal spectrum, from up and coming technical death metal act Arkhum to German heavy metal act Accept and long running Canadian metallers Kataklysm. Ty is excited to hear the album Samael is currently recording, and hoping it’s more along the lines of “Passage” or “Reign of Light.”
Daniel (aka DeathCrush) is currently at the University of Wisconsin pondering research ideas for a Research Methods of Psychology course. He is formulating an experiment that measures loud music/metal to aggression.
Also, please welcome to our staff Lari (aka shadeg) from Finland and Joe (aka Joe Reviled), a Canadian currently living in Taipei, Taiwan (and who has written a couple of Unearthing The Metal Underground columns for us already).
