Metallica Officially Removed From "The Big Four" Of Thrash Metal
Long before the phrase "Big four" was applied to every single sub genre of heavy metal, it was used only to describe the biggest bands in thrash metal; Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. However, over the years, across comment sections, forums, chat rooms and blogs, metal fans and even musicians have questioned who truly belongs in the collective, with even Slayer guitarist Kerry King once claiming that Machine Head should replace Anthrax.
Today, it has been confirmed that Metallica, the most commercially successful American metal band, has had their membership of this prestigious club revoked. The decision has been attributed to a number of reasons, including Metallica's shift away from thrash metal, beginning with the hugely successful "Black Album," in 1991, which led them to experiment more with alternative music, a covers album which included renditions of songs by Nick Cave, Bob Seger and Lynyrd Skynyrd and home video release "S&M" which saw them team up with the San Francisco Symphony orchestra. Other reasons believed to have been a factor in their exclusion include modelling, celebrity appearances, arguably lacklustre new material and "barbecue rock vocals." Thus far Testament, Exodus, Overkill and Death Angel are being considered as their replacements.
While no comments have been made by other bands from the "Big Four", close sources claim that Dave Mustaine plans to use Megadeth's studio time to create an album which will see them "dropped from the Big Four harder and faster than Metallica," while Anthrax are still pretty happy to be there.

Exodus should replace metallica and it should be the big 6 with testament and overkill added. Megadeth next album is supposed to be heavy with blast beats...so we will wait and see. 80s metallica is thrash ...maybe hardwired but they should have dropped thrash label a long time ago.

Metallica was once my favorite band on the planet. But i think they should have been removed from the list long ago. They played up to a greater audience and achieved a greater amount of success for it. But they lost their edge in doing so. Newstesd left at the right time. Good riddance. RIP old Metallica!

Kids.. if you reading this, don’t buy into it. Who ever wrote this cares nothing for the history of Metal or music. They just want try an control what you’re listening too. The Big 4 were the big 4 cause they didn’t suck. All 4 bands were the most commercially successful of the genre at that time.

People are really falling for this? Who exactly is "revoking" Metallicas membership from the "prestigious club". LOL - Come on you guys. Even if this is true, that Metallica will no longer tour this bill, theres likely a whole story behind this and 98% of it is likely speculation and plain not true. Its not about "thrash" metal anyway. If it werent for Metallica and Slayer the tour wouldn't draw half the crowd. You've fallen for modern day journalism which is mostly opinion anymore. They got you stirred up. Don't let them take away our love for music by turning it into an emotional argument over who deserves what, or who isn't what anymore.

Overkill should be in. They have been plugging along without breaks all of this time. 19 studio albums and the latest, The Wings of War is great! Even Slayer's last album wasn't one their best. Exodus and Testament disappeared for a while in there and Death Angel, honestly, I haven't heard them since I heard Third Floor.

Metallica hasn't put out a thrash album since Master of Puppets. Justice was a lousy album made worse by horrible production and mixing. Anthrax has had some winners too...State of Euphoria??? Come on, that album was terrible. Sadly, they haven't been able to put out a killer album since Spreading the Disease. Megadeth...well, Dave should have never got behind a mic. Slayer...Diabolus in Musica was a sub par album, but they have been killing it since the beginning, and continue to do so. I say get rid of the 3 pop bands but keep Slayer!

To claim there is no big 4 without Metallica is absurd. Let's look at the history of Metallica. Amazing band, right up to the black album. And then came the hair cuts, the style changes, suing Napster . All these things, and the fact that the music sucks . That's why.

f*** Exodus. All they ever say is all this "f*** God" and "f*** Religion", "mad at dad" bullsh**. If religion is so irrelevant, then why mention it at all? Fact is that these days, real metal especially old school thrash appeals more to the White Conservative Male than any other demographic, most of whom at least identify as "Christian". I am as upset as the next 83-88 fan that Metallica moved away from real Thrash, they deserve to get dropped from "The big four". The real question is though, is the big four really even something to aspire to be a part of anymore? Say what you want about Dave Mustaine, but his music sounds THE SAME as it did with Megadeth's first album, despite his conversion to Christianity and REFUSAL to play retarded a$$ Satanic Devil sh**. Every person Ive ever known who listened to that crap was some kind of closet sex pervert, %100 of the time. Megadeth's recent work shows that Dave remains faithful to his musical style but uses his lyrics to expose the Government and their lust for power as well as telling people the truth. If that gets Megadeth dropped from the big four and Dave purposefully chooses that path for the band, then it sounds like "The Big Four" are all a bunch of sellouts. Ill leave you with this.... Tharsh metal was an aggressive evolution of metal that stemmed from the anti-establishment sentiments of punk rock. Nowadays, being gay, worshipping the devil, subscribing to socialism and being a liberal are considered "mainstream", that means the true spirit of Thrash now lives on with people who believe in God, want to keep their guns, hate big government and want to see all the sexual deviants of the world punished for their crimes, not exalted as folk heroes and revolutionaries.

Anthrax, Had a great album, Among The Living, what as far as the four best thrash bands I think you can look at it two ways one of them there's more than four there's like six Overkill I agree Metallica we can't take nothing away from them I like The Black Album it was good Sepultura is amazing The Testament I got every single album but let's not forget Motorhead! Motorhead was amazing! Testament Souls of Black wonderful sweet awesome Kick-Ass album well anyway all you heavy metal guys and girls out there much Love and may thrash metal live on in our minds Souls forever amen!

This post is ridiculous. The "big four" was meant to be time specific to what was relevant in that period. Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax were the 80's big four and Pantera, Sepultura, Fear Factory and Machine Head were the 90's big four. You wouldn't compare Black Sabbath with Lamb of God now, would you? C'mon people. Get a grip here...
