Dave Mustaine Seeking "Jesus Christ" Role In Tentative "Left Behind" Film Sequel

Variety reports that none other than Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine is in talks with Canadian film production company Stoney Lake Entertainment, allegedly over a future appearance in a planned “Left Behind” franchise sequel.

Metalunderground.com contacted a spokesman at Tradecraft, Megadeth’s current label distributed through Universal. “He’s gunning for the role of Jesus Christ,” the spokesman confirmed of Mustaine, 52.

Tyndale House published the best-selling literary series “Left Behind” from 1995 through 2007. The political conspiracy thrillers depicted a chaotic Biblical End Times scenario in which the prophesied Antichrist rises to power and tyranny, ruling all who remain on Earth following the Rapture.

Stoney Lake plans to release a film “reboot” of the first novel in the series, “Left Behind,” starring Nicolas Cage, on October 3rd, 2014. Further adaptations are reportedly in the works, provided this year’s production fares well at the box office.

“That’s what Dave came to me about,” explained producer and screenwriter Paul Lalonde of Stoney Lake (Lalonde, together with brother Peter, also owns Cloud Ten Pictures, which produced a trilogy of “Left Behind” adaptations in the early 2000s starring Kirk Cameron). “He’s itching for that Jesus role.”

Upon contacting Mustaine himself by phone, he had this to say:

“Are you really that surprised? I’ve written songs about this conspiracy stuff for years. Just listen to ‘Endgame.’ Heck, listen to ‘New World Order!’ Those lyrics practically describe those books and movies to the letter. Oh, and ‘Never Walk Alone?’ Guess whose point of view that song was written from?”

Mustaine, an unapologetic born-again Christian and no stranger to controversy, considers such a film role a natural next step: “It’s the perfect fit. I get to descend from Heaven like a badass and slaughter the armies of the Antichrist. I still have the hair, so that works. And I’ve even written some sick, bruising Mega-riffs for my entrance theme.”

Lalonde, however, admits he’s a bit wary. “He’s talking about scenes from “Glorious Appearing,” the writer/producer explains. “That’s twelve books into the series. We might not make it that far in the storyline. We still don’t have a green light for the second film yet. Heck, even if the thing became a smash hit, the actual event could’ve taken place before we got to the big entrance Dave keeps yammering on about. You never know.

“Actually, I’m getting kind of creeped out by the whole thing. When we speak, the way he leans across my desk, there’s this crazy gleam in his eye. I might have to start letting my agent take his calls from now on.”

Megadeth released fourteenth studio album “Super Collider” through Tradecraft/Universal on June 4th, 2013, and many, many, many copies are still available in stores.

This is so exactly the level of narcissism and self-importance Mustaine would have if ever trying to cross into film.
