In an effort to catch up with some of the bands gearing up to tour on the Sounds of the Underground Tour, I sent some questions by email to From Autumn To Ashes. Frontman Benjamin Perri was kind enough to take the time to answer them. Here they are with his responses:

Mike (aka CorrosiveMind): How was writing the new album, "Abandon Your Friends," any different than writing your previous ones?

Benjamin: We just all had a say in what we were writing. it was a full on collaborative effort.

Mike: Do you think your new album has a different sound than previous ones? Is it heavier, more melodic, a little of both?

Benjamin: It really could be two records in one. The heavy stuff is heavier the melodic stuff is lighter. It is a trademark FATA record, but just more extreme than before.

Mike: What do you think of the metal/hardcore scene today? Do you feel it's becoming too violent or do you feel like it's just the same as always with a few trouble makers thrown in?

Benjamin: The scene is not much of a scene anymore, it is more just music now. So many different people are going to the shows from pop piunk kids to metal kids...its great.

Mike: How do you feel about doing the Sounds of the Underground Tour? Are there any bands in particular that you're looking forward to playing shows with?

Benjamin: I feel like its going to be a tough time. It is the first year of a new festival and that is always are hard time. There are unforseen things that go worng and most likely will. I just cant wait to hang out with Keith from Every Time I Ddie.

Mike: Do you guys plan on playing Hellfest this year?

Benjamin: Yes sir, we do.

Doug (aka deatbringer): What are your plans for the rest of the year, after Sounds of the Underground is over?

Benjamin: Tour with Rise Against in August and then see where we go from there.....

Mike: What band has had the biggest influence on the sound of FATA overall? If you can't single out one band, which bands were the most influential to the band's sound?

Benjamin: We are five different people and have five different tastes and we try to accomodate all of them in one record.

Mike: What one thing would you like to own that you don't already own?

Benjamin: I want a beautiful baldwin piano.........i neeeeeed it.

Mike: If you have a favorite band, who would it be and why?

Benjamin: If it has to be a band i would say Lucero right now. they are just fun drinkin country musc!!

Mike: What is each of the band members' opinion on the tragic murder of Dimebag Darrell Abbott? Does it change how you feel about playing live shows?

Benjamin: I am no where near the celebrity of darrell...im not worried.......

Mike: What other bands are you listening to lately?

Benjamin: A lot of In Flames for some reason, Ryan Adams always and the Honorary Title.

Doug: If you could tour with anyone, who would it be with?

Benjamin: Billy Joel...cause i am from long island and he just rules the world and is the best musicisan ever!!

Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions - see you on the Sounds of the Underground Tour!
