Death Angel Releases Surprise EP

Bay Area thrash giants Death Angel have surprised fans today with a remarkably unique rendition of rock legends Queen & David Bowie's iconic song "Under Pressure," that's featured on an unannounced digital EP of the same title out now on Nuclear Blast. The "Under Pressure" EP also includes a brand new original song, "Faded Remains," and two newly recorded acoustic versions of "A Room With A View" and "Revelation Song."

Vocalist Mark Osegueda comments on the song:
"The Under Pressure EP is something I feel that we needed to release during these very frustrating times...These are very heavy times...And although it’s an all acoustic EP, It’s heavy in a different sense of the word. And music is how we express ourselves best! These times will eventually pass and we shall all regroup and once again celebrate the other side of HEAVY that is the foundation of our truly fantastic Metal scene! Until then...Stay safe, healthy, and happy! I hope you enjoy!!"

Guitarist Rob Cavestany adds:
"What started out as simply expressing emotion through music as a cathartic reaction to the madness engulfing our world has turned into our first EP. Pure, raw and spontaneous, it’s also our first all acoustic release. Hoping this offering finds you well and brings warmth to your heart and soul. Together we shall overcome! Thank you for listening." More...

Death Angel Drummer In Intensive Care Unit

Will Carroll, the drummer for thrash metal legends Death Angel, is currently in intensive care after friends and bandmates stated he was "very ill." Exodus guitarist Gary Holt, who himself is in self quarantine exhibiting the symptoms of the illness, made the news public recently while giving his own update. His Instagram post reads as follows:

"I remained quiet on this earlier, not wanting to say anything until I was certain it had become public knowledge, but Will Carroll, is in need of some massive positive vibes. Me, I appreciate all the warm wishes I’ve gotten, but I’m sick, nothing more, Will is in the ICU. WAY worse that anything I’m dealing with, by a long shot. Not even close. He is very ill. There are several of us that have symptoms and are waiting for test results. Will needs some healing vibes from everyone. Get well Will."

When asked if the drummer was suffering from COVID-19, the Holt stated that "tests results being done but that's probably what it is."

Elsewhere, Testament frontman Chuck Billy, who recently toured with Exodus and Death Angel with his band, has tested positive for the virus, as has his wife.

More information will be revealed as soon it becomes available.

Death Angel Discusses New Lyrical Themes

Legendary California thrash metal band Death Angel’s long-awaited 9th full-length album, "Humanicide," will be released next Friday, May 31st via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, the band gives fans a look into the record’s lyrical content in a brand new trailer, which can be seen below.

With their forthcoming album "Humanicide," Death Angel has maintained their throne in the universe of thrash while still managing to remain progressive in their style. They apply a wide variety of different elements to their music, always pushing to add newness to their sound. This time around they’ve included everything from acoustic bits, to guest musicians, to even (for the first time) the notes of a piano. All ten songs flow seamlessly yet each leaves its own distinct impression. The first single and title track "Humanicide" triumphantly represents the entirety of the album, immediately energising the listener. Mark Osegueda remarks: "I wanted to write something that metal fans could really grasp onto. Something dark and intense, that still makes sense. Right now I think it’s so apparent that the earth is in a sickened state." More...

Death Angel Posts New Lyric Video Online

California thrash metal legends Death Angel have unleashed a snarling new song today called "The Pack" from the band’s long-awaited ninth full-length album, "Humanicide," that’s due out May 31st from Nuclear Blast Records. Watch the lyric video for the track below.

"When I wrote the music for our song 'Humanicide' I was shooting for an album opener that would have all the elements of an epic thrash opus. This meant a classic metal style intro leading into a ferocious “Bay Area Thrash Riff-o-Rama” - complete with a crazy middle build up section to ramp up the circle pit until it’s all whipped up into a frenzy by the time the frenetic guitar solo hits, then concluding with a maniacal musical section leading into the outro. All it needed was the lyrics and vocal delivery to match the intensity and Mark went above and beyond the call of duty! Some of his best work in my opinion. One of my favorite DA songs for sure, it feels like the follow up to our song 'Thrown to the Wolves'. Can’t wait to play it live!" – Rob Cavestany. More...

Exodus Holds The Headbanger's Ball In London

December has been one Hell of a month for tours. Great Britain has been treated to a wide array of bands visiting this month, while there's also been some real treats when it comes to tour packages. Perhaps there was no tour with more to offer, especially to fans of thrash metal, than the Headbanger's Ball tour, which made its only British stop in London a few weeks ago. Denim vests, high top running shoes and band patches at the ready, it's a night of old school thrash.

Opening the show, all the way from Athens (Greece, not Ohio,) was Suicidal Angels. Many will remember about ten years ago, there was the thrash revival, which saw a number of young bands bring back the thrash of the eighties, many going full retro and singing songs about Robocop. While many of these groups simply rehashed the style, there were some who brought a freshness to the genre, either by putting a modern spin on things or adding some new elements. Suicidal Angels were one of the few that fall into the latter category and proved on this night that they're still going strong not just because the music's good, but because they're a real force live. Obviously, they had the shortest set time on the bill, but fans who arrived early were treated to a quality display of thrash metal, which instead of being a nostalgia act, was an energetic outburst of metal.
