70000 Tons of Metal - The World's Biggest Heavy Metal Cruise

Karmic Link

Formed: 2006
From: Linköping, Sweden
Last Known Status: Active

KARMIC LINK is the (project ?) bastard child of Stathis Kassios (ex-keyboard player of Sweden's SYSTEM SHOCK and Greece's NIGHTFALL) who decided after a period of extensive recording (appearing in the following released albums: SYSTEM SHOCK - Arctic Inside, SYSTEM SHOCK - Escape) and live experience (sharing the same stage with bands like PARADISE LOST, QUEENSRYCHE, NIGHTWISH, JUDAS PRIEST, etc.), to give birth to a surrealistic event inside normal timespace.

Somewhere around 2006 he started experimenting on some songs while at the same time he recruited the female entity Mina G. (ex-KINETIC, The RAIN I BLEED), a charismatic mezzo-soprano, who paradoxically fited this crazy ship of karmic ideas. The link was established and the result was mixed and mastered in the famous TICO TICO studios (SENTENCED, IMPALED NAZARENE, SONATA ARCTICA, etc.) in Finland.

Hot off the heels of their 2008 debut release "No Light but Rather Darkness Visible", Karmic Link are back again, this time with a thought-provoking concept album titled "Esoterica". Stathis Kassios (ex-System Shock, ex-Nightfall) and Mina G (The Rain I Bleed) join forces again to tell the story of Sandra, an anchor at a news network whose life is dramatically affected by the appearance of strange phenomena revolving around her job. Her story unfolds throughout the course of the album, reaching towards a climax that forces her to realize where modern society is headed and the power that media and technology possess.

New recruit Evan Hensley from Nashville, Tennessee has taken up both guitar and bass duties, and gels with Stathis and Mina in a way that keeps the original flame found on No Light… burning at an even greater intensity. This energy spreads rampantly throughout the record and makes for an extremely diverse offering; industrial soundscapes, soaring vocals, high-octane electric guitars, and grandiose keyboard offerings are just a handful of the features of Esoterica.

Stylistically, the album manages to cross an expansive terrain, featuring up-beat, dynamic, rock conjurations, fragile, acoustic-driven explorations built for introspection, and bleak, industrial hymns to rebellion. Yet through all of this a brave sense of melody is always apparent, whether manifested through the intricately woven sounds of an acoustic guitar, the angelic timbre of Mina's voice, or the hook-laden keyboard tracks.

The album was mixed by Chris “Rektor” Ntaskas at Scythe Noise Lab in Athens, Greece, and mastered by John McCaig at panicStudios in Seattle, Washington. Featuring a guest vocal appearance by Efthimis Karadimas (Nightfall), Esoterica has struck a true chord of originality and insight with this new Karmic experience that is sure to resonate with any fan of music.
