Watain Shares "We Remain" Music Video

Today, notorious Swedish black metal collective Watain are proud to unveil the third and final single from their upcoming new studio album, "The Agony & Ecstasy Of Watain," which will be released on April 29th 2022.

The song is called "We Remain" and it represents the deepest shadow of the album, a profound contemplation on the winding abyss of the past. Fearlessly extending across the known borders of Watain's musical wilderness, "We Remain" also features noble contributions by Farida Lemouchi (ex. The Devil's Blood, Molassess) and Gottfrid Åhman (ex. In Solitude, PÅGÅ).

The video for "We Remain" was directed by Johan Bååth who has been documenting Watain's journey through the world for many years.

Erik Danielsson (vocals) comments:
"I begun writing 'We Remain' in 2012, as a meditation on the concept of Mythopoeia; our mythical origins and how our understanding and approach to them is shaped and transformed throughout time. The lyric is built around the five elemental wings of the Pentagram, and the mysteries embedded in that ancient symbol. It is a song about forgotten things that ought to be remembered, the search for truths that were lost, of the ever burning flame that illuminates the darkness of times immemorial, the passing of aeons and and our ponderable place therein." Watain Pulls Out Of U.S. Tour With Mayhem

Swedish black metal veterans Watain has announced that they have been forced to pull out of the scheduled tour of the United States of America with Mayhem, owing to further investigations into their visas. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"We regret to inform you all that, due to reasons entirely beyond our control, we’re forced to cancel our participation in the upcoming US Tour with Mayhem and Midnight, for which we were due to leave tomorrow.

"We have just been informed that the US Embassy have decided to launch an additional, undisclosed 'administrative process' in relation to Watain's visa applications. We’ve been told that this investigation could go on for months and that we might not get a reply until the tour is over. Since we have not been given any additional information about why this is taking place, how long it’ll take, or if visas will eventually be approved, it leaves us with no choice but to pull out of the tour.

"The same embassy has previously approved our working visa applications for every US tour, each of the 8 times we have applied. Preparing for a tour like this takes an enormous amount of work by the band and our crew. The merch has been produced, ticket buyers have made plans, and the crew relies on the jobs that the tour provides. It is a devastating blow to any band, but to the authorities in charge it seems to hold no significance.

"To our loyal fans and followers; we had truly been looking forward to stand before you all again. We invested all we had for this one. We are working hard on setting things straight and our intention is to re-schedule the North American dates for early 2023. Refunds are available at point of purchase.

"Finally, we wish Mayhem and Midnight a killer tour regardless."

Watain Releases New Lyric Video

Right before the start of their extensive US tour with Norwegian peers Mayhem, notorious Swedish black metal collective Watain has unveiled 'Serimosa' - the second single from their upcoming new studio album, "The Agony & Ecstasy Of Watain," which will be released on April 29th, 2022.

"Serimosa" sees a shift in pace from its furious predecessor "The Howling," heading towards more of a gloomy and Gothic landscape, yet bearing the unmistakable black mark of Watain. Lyrically, its contemporary acuteness and prophetic quality is just as unnerving as it is comforting.

E. Danielsson (vocals) comments,
"'Serimosa' tells of the electric notion of the coming of a great power. The appearance of cracks in the dam that holds the flood of the great sea. A visitor from the beyond, crossing the threshold into the material world.

"Just like 'Watain' - 'Serimosa' is a word/name of power communicated out of unknown origin, appearing into the world sans history, to be approached with thought and reverence. Its linguistic root may be traced from the Latin word Seri ("serum") along with Dolorosa ("pain") Nebulosa ("starfog") Lacrimosa ("tearfilled"), as if those words and their meanings were spoken as one. In her hand she holds the stern light of renewal, of transformation, of merciless cleansing. Thematically, Serimosa also holds similarities to the fiery Samhara aspect of Nataraja, the doomsday dance of Shiva marking the dissolution of order at the end of an eon.
May she bring you far and deep." More...

Watain Guitarist Denied Entry To The U.S.

Swedish black metal practitioners Watain "regret to inform you that US authorities has decided to ban Watain's guitarist Pelle Forsberg from entering their country. Erik, Alvaro, Hampus and Emil have after a week of uncertainty just arrived in the States, unfortunately not in time to go through with tonight’s (November 21st) show in Houston, Texas."

According to the band, here's what happened:

"Upon his entry to the States last week, Pelle was unprovokedly taken into custody, locked up in a cell and interrogated during an entire night, only to finally have his newly approved US Working Visa - which he has been granted five times prior to this one- revoked and made void. He was thereafter deported back to Mexico where he had been prior to the tour. This radical and fatal decision, made by a random custom officer who happened to be on duty that day, was based on Google searches on Watain made during Pelle's incarceration, as well as private pictures found on his phone of motorbikes, hunting and various things related to Satanism, Black Metal and counter culture in general. Stuff this officer didn't understand, or like. More...

Watain & Destroyer 666 Phoenix, AZ March 18th 2018

Between the shitstorm that Destroyer 666 were a part of last year and the recent war between “edgy” (a borrowed description…) black metal bands defending against self-righteous keyboard justice warriors, I didn’t know what to expect at Watain and Destroyer 666’s Phoenix, Arizona date. Just a week earlier, Destroyer 666 was booted off their Bay Area date. Watain, showing support for their touring brethren, basically told the venue to go fuck themselves and pulled out of the date as well. Another venue had stepped up to host the show but inexplicably cancelled a few days later. In light of all this drama, Phoenix did not disappoint. There was no bullshit, no drama, only metal and Watain’s Disciples.

I have to admit, I’m not an avid listener of Destroyer 666, but I did want to check out what all the chatter was about that was filling up comment sections of several metal blogs in 2017. I thought they were solid, but their sound reminds me of early European thrash metal ala early Kreator. They didn’t blow my mind musically but the raw and intensity of their sound had massive appeal a couple of decades ago. For some, this style is fresh and new and turns their crank. For this writer, I was counting down the number of songs left of their 45-minute set.

Watain Deny Allegations Of Nazism

Watain issue a statement denying allegations of Nazism after their live guitarist Set "Davide Totaro" Teitan was seen doing what looked similar to a "Sieg Heil" salute. The gesture was made while the band were taking to the stage during Watain's recent live appearance at the Kraken in Stockholm, Sweden this past weekend. Footage of that can be seen above.

States the band:

“It has come to our attention that people have misinterpreted an arm movement of Set at our Kraken show as a “nazi salute”. Fucking hell, come on folks! As everyone should know by now, Watain band members have no ties to nazi ideology neither publically nor personally, and with this statement we want to put an end to further uneccesary speculation in this tiresome subject.

What we give praise to in our songs and in their lyrics could very well be seen as the very anti-thesis to some utopian right wing ideology of the past. “Saluting” one of our many enemies on the sacred ground that is our stage would not make much sense. That is something we are sure our fans and supporters -who we are proud to say are from every possible “race”, gender, nation and cultural background- can testify to.

As would the fact that our line-up and working crew are also of a widely diverse ethnical background. And the list goes ever on, eliminating all possible forms of soiling by political or ideological agendas, allowing the Devil’s fire to burn clear and untainted in the sanctuary that we have created for ourselves.

It is of course highly regrettable that these unwelcome, inconvenient and misplaced accusations are even allowed to arise and we hope we can now put this behind us and focus on the many important tasks at hand.

Thank you for understanding.

Now let us fearlessly and doubtlessly move forward into the raging chaos of metallic deathnoise madness that is Trident Wolf Eclipse.

FTW!”

Watain released their new effort "Trident Wolf Eclipse" last week.
