Former Nile Bassist Joseph Payne Passes Away

Former Nile and Divine Heresy bassist Joseph Payne has passed away at the age of 35. His former Divine Heresy bandmate Dino Cazares confirmed the reports in a post on social media yesterday. A statement from Cazares reads as follows:

"Our metal brother Joseph Payne has passed away. Another one gone way to young. I wasn't going to say anything until I got confirmation from his family, which I now did. At this time no cause of death has been revealed.

"Joe was a great friend, a great band member and an incredible musician. Although he played bass in ?Divine Heresy?, he was an incredible guitarist. I first saw him playing bass in Nile and right then and there, I said, 'I want that guy in my band.' After having that first conversation that night, I realized he was a great dude and from there on, we've shared some amazing moments in life and on tour, from Australia to South America to Canada to Mexico to Europe, etc.

"Joe was a very outgoing funny guy with a very friendly personality. He was loved by many and he loved all his fans and road friends. He never complained when times got tough on the road. He always helped everyone and worked his ass off when he was in DH and I admired him for being that way.

"We love you and we will miss you. Rest In Peace, my friend." More...

Nile Posts Second Lyric Video Online

Technical death metal Egyptologists Nile are proud to release their ninth album, "Vile Nilotic Rites," today via Nuclear Blast. In celebration of the release the band offer fans the lyric video for the song, "Snake Pit Mating Frenzy." You can check it out below.

Karl Sanders comments, "The arrival of the release day of 'Vile Nilotic Rites' is the long-awaited culmination of not only years of passionate, dedicated work from everyone involved, but also the sweeping realization, the promised land of the collective hopes and expectations of our fans. In truth, this day of deliverance is also their day, not just ours. NILE fans have always been loyal and supportive through the years, and evidenced themselves particularly so over and over during the long wait while we slaved over this album. Their eternal metal faith and encouragement were a continuous source of inspiration for us to push ourselves to make this the best NILE record we possibly could. This album has been a long time coming; but it is here at last, here at last. Thank the metal gods almighty, 'Vile Nilotic Rites' is here at last." More...

Nile Posts New Lyric Video Online

Technical death metal Egyptologists Nile are proud to reveal that their ninth studio album, 'Vile Nilotic Rites', will be released on November 1st via Nuclear Blast. Today, the band offers a lyric video for the second single and title track, "Vile Nilotic Rites," which can be seen below.

Karl Sanders comments, "'Vile Nilotic Rites' was a depraved yet fun song to write and record. Now that we are playing it live on tour, we are for sure enjoying sharing the song onstage with metal fans. 'Vile' is a catchy track with a lot of variety in the tempo; from crushing heavy, to irresistible mid-paced groove, to uptempo blasting. It also has a creeping, heavy evil vibe yet with just the right amount of technicality to be an undeniably fun blast to play. The lyrics are some of my favorite on the album as are the vocal performances, par excellence from Brian and Brad, as well as some extremely brutal yet tasteful and enjoyable drum work from George. 'Vile' was one of the first songs written for this album so we have certainly impatiently waited a long time to be able to bring this track to metal fans."

"Vile Nilotic Rites" tracklisting:
1. Long Shadows of Dread
2. Oxford Handbook of Savage Genocidal Warfare
3. Vile Nilotic Rites
4. Seven Horns of War
5. That Which is Forbidden
6. Snake Pit Mating Frenzy
7. Revel in their Suffering
8. Thus Sayeth the Parasites of the Mind
9. Where is the Wrathful Sky
10. The Imperishable Stars are Sickened
11. We are Cursed More...

70.000 Tons of Metal: Day 2

While most of the fans were sleeping – well let's say some of them - the "The Independence Of The Seas" metal-battleship ship had to make a 90 degrees course change, an evasive maneuver to calmer seas, in order to avoid sailing into a storm. The 37 knot (42 mph) wind also prevented the organization from erecting the decorative side-fills, left and right of the stage. Also the lighting rig was put at half mast, so that the stiff winds won't tear it down. At least the Pool stage was ready on time for Raven and all the other bands that would hit the Pool-Deck-Stage on Day 2.

To catch my favourite American thrash metal band from Newbury Park, CA Warbringer I had to get up somewhat early in the morning - meaning before 9 a.m. - to have enough time for a tasty breakfast at the Windjammers buffet. The buffet offered everything you could think of from hash-browns, scrambled/fried eggs, ham, cheese, cereals of all kinds, toast, vegetables, fruits, juice, regular coffee, decaffeinated coffee, tea etc. etc. Even soy-milk could be served for my vegan significant other.

Warbringer kick-started the day at the Royal Theater at 10:45 am:
