Not many bands are fortunate enough to have their demo picked up for a movie soundtrack. But the Swedish hard rock band Teaser managed just that, and in fact all three of the tracks on their EP “No Big Deal” will be featured in the indie film “Back Both Ways.”
What gives Teaser this edge is their melodic hard rock sound reminiscent of bands like Foreigner, Dokken and the Scorpions. They are a European band with a distinctively 1980’s sound, and fans of the genre will be impressed by their debut.
The opening track, “Tease Her,” is a melodic hard rock tune with simple, glam style instrumentals, offset by brief but impressive guitar riffs that bring to mind bands like Extreme and Poison.
“Make Up Your Mind” adds harmonizing vocals with a Dokken sound, that are both clean and melodic. The instrumentals are solidly in the camp of monster rock, with a transition into a tune very similar to Scorpion’s “Wind of Change.”
An upbeat, pop sound gets added to the mix in the final track, “Guilty of Love.” “Guilty of Love” opens with a noteworthy soulful bass, and has a sound and rhythm much like most early 1980’s pop tunes.
While Teaser’s melodic brand of music may not be favored by more hardcore metal fans, “No Big Deal” is an amazingly high quality debut, and virtually a guarantee that the band is on its way to making a name for themselves in the glam/hard rock community.
Highs: Clean, melodic vocals and classic rock guitar riffs.
Lows: Vocals in “Make up Your Mind” have a tendency to go flat.
Bottom line: An impressive debut album that is a good choice for hard rock fans.
