Divinefire vocalist Germán Pascual (Ex-Narnia/Ex-Mind's Eye) is set to release his debut solo release "A New Beginning" on October 7, 2012 through Nightmare Records/Sony/Red. The artwork and track listing can be found below.
Special guest musicians joining him on the album including Carl-Johan "CJ" Grimmark (Narnia/Fires Of Babylon/Rob Rock) and bassists Per Schelander (Pain of Salvation/Royal Hunt) and Raphael Dafras (Almah/Seven Horizons). Pascal is a man with a very special voice, who has achieved much notoriety around the world, lauded greatly and likened with the greatest melodic metal voices of our day, like Ronnie James Dio, Jorn Lande and David Coverdale to mention a few. Pascual was the last voice of Narnia, a well known Swedish melodic heavy metal band, and his new music is hard heavy and melodic power metal without compromise.
Starting music as a drummer in a thrash band at 15, he was invited to try out for a much better band rehearsing next door as a vocalist when they overheard him screaming next door. It was to be his destiny; the band next door was Minds Eye. In 2008, Narnia needed a singer, and through a good friend Pascual made contact with Narnia guitarist C.J Grimmark. The rest of course is history, as Narnia went on to release "Course of a Generation" in late 2009. Feeling blessed to have found this great situation in Narnia, Pascual was stunned when the band decided to end all activity.
In addition to music, Pascual works with the less fortunate, the homeless and those suffering from drug addiction.
"A New Beginning" was recorded in his own "Camel Wash Studios." It was engineered and produced by Pascual & Raphael Dafras, with the mixing and mastering handled by Thomas Plec Johansson in "The Panic Room" (Sweden).
A teaser video for "A New Beginning" can be viewed at this location.

The Florida death metal ministers in Obituary are set to kick off their first North American headlining tour in over three years this weekend. Brought to you by Rock The Nation and sponsored by Fender, the Carnival Of Death Tour 2012 will commence this Saturday in Orlando, Florida and tear its way through nearly two dozen cities. Further brutality will come from reunited death metallers Broken Hope as well as Decrepit Birth, Jungle Rot, and Encrust.
Obituary is also currently writing the follow up to the "Darkest Day" full-length, released in 2009 via Candlelight Records, with official details to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Carnival Of Death Tour marks Obituary’s first full North American tour run as a four-piece with death metal alumnus Terry Butler (Death, Six Feet Under, Massacre, Denial Fiend) on bass. For this trek, the band — vocalist John Tardy, drummer Donald Tardy, guitarist Trevor Peres and Butler — compiled a special fan-generated set list that will delve deep into the back catalog to include tunes predominantly off the group's first three full-lengths: "Slowly We Rot," "Cause Of Death," and "The End Complete."
Comments Donald Tardy: “We are super excited about the start of the Carnival Of Death Tour. It has been a long time since we toured extensively across the US and Canada. For the first time we went to our fans and asked their help in picking the songs for this ‘classic set’ and it really turned out to be a great set list. Most of these songs we have not played in over a decade and some of them we’ve never performed onstage so the anticipation is killing me! It's was quite the challenge to re-learn songs from 20 years ago but we are ready to blow our old fans away and hopefully gain some new ones. The scene has been set, the fans have selected the songs and the time has come to hit the road and kick off this Carnival.... send in the Clowns!” More...

"Following up on 2010’s breakout album, Trails Out of Gloom, the band return to their heavier roots with the brand new album, Of Losing Interest! Once again recorded at Creativ Studios with longtime producer, Mike Southworth at the helm, the band have crafted themselves an album that perfectly balances the technical virtuosity of heavy metal with the more down to earth tones of the early 90’s alternative rock movement. Of Losing Interest is available through Nail Distribution in North America, Code 7 in the UK, and Clearspot International in Europe."
Fen will be hitting the road to begin supporting "Of Losing Interest" this month:

Just weeks away from the release of fifth album, "I Am," Becoming the Archetype is pleased to share another new track, “The Planet Maker,” exclusively via MetalSucks. Check out the song at this location.
New album "I Am" hits stores September 18th from longtime label Solid State Records. “‘The Planet Maker’ is our most proggy song on the record,” explains band nucleus Seth Hecox. “It reflects our love of progressive rock/metal and good, original songwriting. The song includes screaming and singing. It's our most marketable singing on the record and the melody is in a style that is slightly new for BTA.”
“There are also some killer solos on this song, satiating the guitar nerds and the girls that require guitar gods to inhabit the bands that they unconditionally love,” Hecox deadpans. “To match the lyrics and concept of ‘The Planet Maker,’ there are some spacey elements to the music. The riffs harken to a sci-fi interest and feeling of new beginnings of a metaphysical nature.” More...
Decibel Magazine is currently offering a stream of Ofermod's "Mysterion Tes Anomias" EP. A re-issue of the EP with two bonus tracks is set for a North American release on September 11th, 2012. Check out the stream over at this location.
The track listing is:
1. Mystérion Tés Anomias
2. Chained to Redemption
3. Khabs Am Pekht
4. Rape the World
Season of Mist commented: "Ofermod is a name that people within the underground black metal scene pronounce with respect and in awe. Much of the current Swedish black metal sound, as heralded by bands such as Watain, finds its origin in the early works of Ofermod. The abyssal atmosphere, the sinister chord progressions, the violent and commanding drumming, a depraved demonlike voice - all of the above is Ofermod’s genuine trademark."

Oslo, Norway’s brutal punk quartet Okkultokrati has completed newest studio full-length release, "Snakereigns," and plan on jamming it into humankind’s back like a rusty prison shank this Fall.
BrooklynVegan today unleash the opening track from "Snakereigns," aptly entitled “No Ouroboros,” so quit dicking around and give it a spin right here or in the player available below. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"Building their anthems on straightforward punk beats with the filth of unholy black n’ roll running through their veins, Okkultokrati proudly let their influences from the masters of the genre bleed through, yet their spine-crushing anthems speak for themselves with unique guitar atmospheres and a mix of high/low-end riffage busting through the thunderous percussion and gnarled vocals. As part of the infamous Black Hole Crew scene, their local nihilistic brethren in Obliteration, Haust, Dark Times and a handful of other local henchmen remain their only comrades, purposely.
"Snakereigns follows-up the band’s No Light For Mass debut album, released amidst a handful of EPs, demos and split releases since their filthy 2008 induction. While their first album was produced by Haust's Ruben Willem, Okkultokrati asked Emil Nikolaisen of Serena Maneesh to record the follow-up."
"The recording was pretty much just a matter of getting mikes and valves on fire” Emil comments. “Just with one guitar down Okkulto sounded huge." Nearly forty minutes of the band’s putrid style seep through nine new tracks, set to be released worldwide via hometown label Fysisk Format, in Europe on October 22nd and in North America October 30th. The track listing is: More...

Mortiis has teamed up with Norwegian filmmaker Reinert Kiil for a film short, titled "Vardøger," including "Geisteskrank" by Mortiis, which will debut at the BUT film festival in Breda, The Netherlands, on September 8th. The debut will be followed by a showing at Oslo Fright Fest on September 22.
The mini film "Vardøger" and soundtrack "Geisteskrank" will be made available to everyone via Mortiis.com as a free download starting October 1st 2012. “Vardøger" will be shown in conjunction with Kiil’s full-length films, “Hora” and “Inside the Whore.” This is Kiil’s first musical collaboration.
Kiil and Mortiis initially connected through Mortiis’ guitarist, Levi Gawron, also a film-industry colleague of Kiil. “I really love Mortiis’ work,” Kiil said. “The collaboration started with me writing a script for a story around my deepest demons, all the while listening to old tracks from Mortiis. I sent the script to Levi and he liked it. We talked many times and made the script more personal for me, as well as for Mortiis. I think the result is a film that expresses the essence of me and Mortiis all in one package.”
Said Gawron: “We connected early on in the Norwegian film industry because we share the same views and interest in films. I guess we both like weird and twisted things! We have played around with this idea for some time now. The idea was that he would make a music video for us, but as the project evolved it became a collaboration where he stood for the visual and we for the music. The idea is to share fans.” More...
Washington, DC-based heavy metallers A Sound of Thunder have begun work on their third full-length album entitled "Time's Arrow." The band has entered Assembly Line Studios with producer Kevin "131" Gutierrez (Shinedown, While Heaven Wept, Raven). With the same band line-up, producer, and studio that created 2012' "Out of the Darkness" (reviewed here), "Time's Arrow "features 11 new songs combining rousing and catchy traditional metal with crushing modern production. "Time's Arrow" will release in early 2013 and is the subject of the band's current Kickstarter campaign.
Blaze Bayley (ex-Iron Maiden, Wolfsbane) makes an appearance on the album, performing a duet with vocalist Nina Osegueda on the track "My Disease." Guitarist Josh Schwartz comments, "Blaze is a legendary figure in the history of metal, but more importantly he brings incredible power, passion and sincerity to his performances, and that's exactly what we needed on this song. Musically it has little in common with Maiden, and sounds more like a cross between Black Sabbath and Blaze's first few solo albums...and of course A Sound of Thunder."
Bayley also commented: "It has been a real pleasure to work on this song. Filled with passion and intensity, it has an edge. I wish A Sound of Thunder the very best of luck with their project, but with a song this good, I don't think they will need luck."
On August 20th, 2012 A Sound of Thunder started a Kickstarter.com fundraiser campaign for the recording of "Time's Arrow." The campaign will run for 30 days and offers fans a chance to pre-order the album, have their name printed in the album booklet, reserve an ultra-limited box set edition of the album, and acquire unique and rare items from the band. Video at the band's Kickstarter page contains the first clips from the new album. More...

Boston metalcore band On Broken Wings is set to finish recording the tentatively titled "Summer Solstice" this fall at Darkside Audio. Darkside Audio is the recording studio owned and operated by guitarist Mike McMillen. The new album will be the proper follow-up to 2005’s "It’s All A Long Goodbye," as 2007’s "Going Down" was a re-release of the band’s 2001 debut "Number One Beautiful" with four new songs. A recurring theme for each of the former releases, including 2003’s "Some of Us May Never See The World," was the addition of "I Do My Crosswords In Pen" on each release. When asked whether or not the track would appear this time around, Mike McMillen laughed and commented, “No, that song is done!”
However the tracks featured on the "Summer Solstice" Single, "Crowns Meant For Kings" and "Ego Ideal," will be on the forthcoming release and offers a glimpse into the band’s current sound, which is the vintage On Broken Wings. The tracks may currently be heard on Facebook, and have received nothing but positive feedback since they were released. The two track single may also be purchased from iTunes.
On Broken Wings toured with Bring Me the Horizon, Parkway Drive, Deez Nuts, and Architects in 2011. Thus far in 2012, On Broken wings has played the Jamboree 3 music festival and the 2012 New England Metal and Hardcore Festival.
Today Blistering.com is hosting the exclusive premiere of “Cataclysmic Euphoria” from New York technical death/grind behemoths Malignancy. The track comes off the band’s forthcoming offering of repugnance, "Eugenics," slated to drop in North America on October 9th, 2012 through Willowtip Records.
Check out the song via Blistering.com or in the player available below. Comments vocalist Danny Nelson of the track: “Enjoy this next malignant slice of Eugenics. ‘Cataclysmic Euphoria’ has a mixed flavor of essential bliss. The song is a bit different from our normal writing style, a direction we plan on revisiting again in the future.”
The long-running band’s third studio offering is loosely based around the concept of eugenics — defined as “the study of or belief in the possibility of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population, especially by such means as discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits (negative eugenics) or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits (positive eugenics).”

11/02/2012 The Acheron - Brooklyn, NY

Today, Finland's Inferno magazine is streaming the entirety of Hexvessel's "No Holier Temple" album. Available for a limited time only, the stream of the album can be heard here. Originally slated for release today through Svart Records, the new release date for "No Holier Temple" has been adjusted to September 14th.
The new album's front cover (below) is by the artist Bastian Kalous and represents the reverence to the native forest and nature that Hexvessel wishes to raise awareness and preservation of. The themes of the album "are inspired by the work of great men like Scottish-American naturalist and preservationist John Muir and more recent radical environmental advocates Dave Foreman and Howie Wolke," discussing the definition of what makes something holy and sacred.
Frontman and founder Mat McNerney says of the album: “The songs were written specifically to be channeled by a group. This is the sound of a cult, all focused on summoning the same magic, joined in prayer, haunted by the same demons. We actively pushed for a new way to evolve our sound. I purposely strove to make this album a calculated move-on from Dawnbearer. This isn't about using symbols of the occult. This is about a way of living that returns the old gods to their rightful place. We're a family that worships nature through word and sound. We hope you will join us." More...

The new release by the elusive U.K. extreme metal act Dragged Into Sunlight has finally come to fruition. "Widowmaker" – which, the band stresses, is not to be considered a follow-up to the 2010 debut "Hatred For Mankind" (reissued by Prosthetic in 2011) – is set to be released on November 6 in North America, November 5 in the U.K. and November 9 in Germany.
"Widowmaker" was produced by Tom Dring during three recording sessions over the course of two years and includes additional guitars by an unnamed member of U.K. cult metal band Bossk. The grueling 40-minute, three-track album has been described by the band as "everything heavier and everything louder than everything else" with "an oppressing overtone of complete misery, depression, and isolation."
The members of Dragged Into Sunlight keep their idenities hidden by appearing masked in photos and playing with their backs to the audience in near-total darkness. More information on "Widowmaker" will be revealed in the coming week

Dominican death metallers Archaios just published on their Facebook page an official statement about the murder of one of their peers, Exsanguination Throne's drummer Jose Carlos Hernández, on September 2nd while the band was playing at a local concert. This vile and violent affair only adds more trouble to the cloud of controversy that has surrounded the band and the Dominican Metal scene for more than two decades. The statement, written by Archaios' guitarist Eric Cruz, says:
The Dominincan Republic has lost a great musician but most of all an outstanding person. Jose Carlos Hernández' (aka Asmodeo Nefast Drum Shiva) murder is an act of hate. He was stabbed 27 times on Sunday, September 2nd outside a club where Archaios and other bands were playing. None of us (Archaios' members) had the chance to intervene nor help as the crime happened ironically while we were playing our last two songs of the set "Dreaming with the Dead" and "Eternal Bleeding" and didn't notice what was happening until a friend came into the club and onto the stage to ask our replacement drummer William Marte for medical help.
William is a doctor and was tapped by the band to fill in for our drummer Johandy Ureña until he returns from the U.S.A. By the time he got out of the club Shiva was already being taken to a hospital. Of course, the number and kind of wounds he had didn't even allow him to reach the hospital with a pulse.
Living in a conservative country like the Dominican Republic, Shiva chose to give up on everything he had here to lead a life in South America doing what he loved the most: playing Metal. This was a step few are willing to take in order to pursue the Metal dream, the dream of extreme music. He was in the country coincidentally, on a vacation break and went to that concert just to celebrate the music he loved, until the very end.
We, Archaios, profoundly condemn this act of blood and offer our condolences to his family who has been shrouded by a dark cloud no one should ever experience. Going through these difficult times and struggling to see justice done is something just horrific. One more time, the spiral of conjectures unleashed by the sensationalist media has been overwhelming. Many local journalists have excelled by speculating without even leaving room to find out about the true facts surrounding the articles they write. So is the case, that the newspapers even said that a second person who was just wounded at the scene died as well, not even thinking about the grave repercussions this kind of lies might lead to.
Shiva, you may be gone, but your legacy lives on forever inside those who knew you and shared the stage with you. Your Metal Brothers will never forget. Hails to you!
