Chthonic has posted a light version (partial) of "Takao," filmed on August 27th during a special show in Yilan. The song is off the Taiwanese band's sixth album, "Takasago Army" (reviewed here), which was just released in North America on September 6th, 2011.
Out with the crushing new album "Flood the Common Ground," Misguided Aggression has already bowled over the Canadian east coast and is gearing up for new festival appearances and tour dates. As the band builds up to more devastating live shows, members Ben Dobson and Rob DeMedeiros shared their thoughts on the recording process for the album, as well as what the band accomplished this time around and how the music progressed from earlier releases.
Delving into the themes of the new album, Rob commented "Autonomy is our cause. We encourage thought. We encourage difference. Freedom is something everyone wishes to hold. All over the world, there are communities who have never experienced it, and there are those who have only had a glimpse of it. Many of us look down from above, believing we have obtained it, when in reality, it is only a mockery of what could be. When we band together though, and go out of our way to find the truth, we will hold the wisdom in our hands, and be able to change anything and everything."

Swiss folk metal act Eluveitie has issued the following update about the recording process for the upcoming "Helvetios" release:
"Well, what is there to say? Other than maybe f**k yes, the drums are done! After 4 days of intense recording and another 2 of experimenting we’ve finished all 12 of the full album songs and with them the very finest drum parts I’ve played on an Eluveitie album so far. And yes, you heard right, I just revealed another bit of information: Twelve full songs will be featured on Helvetios, amongst some shorter and more mellow tracks.
"So, to sum things up: Tommy Vetterli has once again proved why we chose him for more than just pushing some faders: Incredible ears and a talent to get the very best out of the performing musicians are yet again being combined with what I think are the strongest Eluveitie songs so far.
"Ivo has started the guitars, and we can’t wait to hear the result in a few weeks. I realize you all are going to have to be patient for a little longer than that, but rest assured, it’s going to be f**king worth it. With these word’s my part is done for now, but I’m sure Ivo will take over and give you an update soon."

Iced Earth has re-recorded the entire 17-minute epic "Dante's Inferno" and is currently offering the track as a free download online.
“If there’s one song fans have asked us to play live more than any other it’s ‘Dante’s Inferno,’” Iced Earth main man Jon Schaffer said. “The simple reason why we haven’t is because the original click track was erased, therefore requiring a keyboard player to do the parts live. That’s OK for a special event like when we recorded Alive in Athens, but to hire a keyboard player for a full tour, for one song, just isn’t financially feasible.”
This summer, during the recording of "Dystopia," Iced Earth’s soon-to-be-released 10th studio album, the band entered the studio for the express purpose of remedying that situation and re-recording the closing track on the band’s 1995 album "Burnt Offerings."
Schaffer and new vocalist Stu Block talk about the recording of “Dante’s Inferno” in the video clip available after the jump. The new version of “Dante’s Inferno” can be downloaded at this location.
“Dante’s Inferno” (which is based on Inferno, the first part of Dante’s poem The Divine Comedy) hasn’t been played live since 1999’s groundbreaking Alive in Athens album. “We wanted to say ‘Thank You’ to all of our loyal fans who have waited so long to hear us play ‘Dante’ again,” said Schaffer. “So, we decided to give this to them, free. It’s because of our fans we’ve been able to make music all these years. This is a way to show how much we appreciate them.” More...

"To say that the chance For Periphery to open for Dream Theater is a dream come true would be a gross understatement. Dream Theater has been one of my favorite bands for about as long as I can remember. I started taking guitar seriously and bought my first 7 string because of John Petrucci. If it weren’t for Dream Theater, Periphery simply would not exist. I can’t express in words just how excited we are for the opportunity to share the stage with them."

New doom metal band, Bewilderbiest, featuring various members of other well known metal bands, has changed its name to Bereft. The band has also uploaded the song "Withered Efflorescence" to its new Facebook page for streaming.
"This will give everyone a taste of what this band is about; dark, depressing, doom," commented vocalist/guitarist Charles Elliott. "Definitely different from what we do in our usual bands. It's heavy as hell and we're all really proud how the record and collaboration came out, and we hope people feel the same way."
"On this particular track Sacha and Derek D. worked together on the music while Derek R. and I worked on the lyrics. I've always envisioned vocal tradeoffs with Sacha on this one, ever since the demo he sent me years ago, so that's what you hear on the chorus."
"This project has been on the back burner since 2008, so we hope people enjoy finally listening to it as much as we do. Come check out our first show ever at The Handbag Factory this month in Los Angeles!"
Bereft is made up of Sacha Dunable on guitar (Intronaut, Graviton), Derek Donley on drums (National Sunday Law, Graviton), Charles Elliott on vocals and guitar (Abysmal Dawn) and Derek Rydquist on bass (ex-The Faceless).

Metal Blade Records announced that it has signed Swedish traditional metal artists RAM. The band is set to release "Death" in early 2012. Other information on the "Death" release can be found at this location.
The full announcement from Metal Blade reads:
"Metal Blade is proud to announce the signing of one of the leading forces in Swedish Heavy Metal, RAM!
"Comments RAM: 'We are very pleased and proud to sign with a metal label that has done so much for Heavy Metal and has such an amazing legacy. We are also very pleased to become labelmates with our good friends and fellow Swedish old school headbangers Portrait and In Solitude. Now with the Blade of metal behind our backs the conquest of demolition continues! HEAVY METAL TYRANNY!'
"RAM was created back in '99 and released their first E.P 'Sudden Impact' in 2003. After playing numerous festivals and a support tour for Sebastian Bach they released their first longplayer 'Forced Entry' in late 2005 which brought the entire old school Heavy Metal community to its knees. RAM hit the road with Dark Tranquillity, did some Scandinavian shows with Gamma Ray and played gigs and festivals all over Europe.
"In 2008 the band returned to the studio with producer Johan Reivén to record the album 'Lightbringer' which was released in 2009 via AFM Records. This time they really took the time to explore the true heavy metal sound. The recording of the album took 10 months of nothing but strife for pure Heavy Metal perfection. RAM also headed out on a headline European tour to promote the album.
"In 2011 RAM went back into the studio to record their third album 'Death.' This time they worked with producers Per Stålberg and Olle Björk to create their best album to date by far. Live shows as support for Swedish extreme black metal band Watain followed as well as destroying some festivals.
Metal Blade and the World tremble in fear before the early 2012 release of the Metal behemoth that is 'Death.' "
Arch/Matheos has posted a new video for "Incense & Myrrh." This is the fifth in a series of track-by-track videos for the forthcoming LP "Sympathetic Resonance," which is scheduled for release on September 13, 2011 via Metal Blade Records.
