Pit Stories: Brutalized In The Lamb of God Pit

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week, Omega Crom's Johnny K recalls getting brutalized in a Lamb of God most pit:

A bunch of us were drinking in the parking lot before the [Lamb of God] show and my friend Stubbs dresses up as this wrestler called the Green Teabagger (you can find him on myspace) goes up to Chris Adler yelling, "I heard you wanted to go me! I heard you wanted to do it!" Funny shit.

So we go into the show just loaded and I'm in the mosh pit drunk and I gotta say that isn't the brightest thing I ever did. I lined up the biggest dude I saw in the vicinity and got smashed to the ground. I'm on my hands and knees and took a knee to the face at which point two random people pick me up and put me back on my feet, wow. Then they're ready to play Black Label and the crowd starts seperating for the wall of death. Randy screams, "1,2,3,4!" and everyone charges at each other like fucking Braveheart and I'm about the second row back from the frontline when we crash together. Managed to step back see just a massive pile of bodies and everyone is bailing people outta there to help the ones at the bottom of this massive doggypile, it was Fuckin Crazy.

Omega Crom just wrapped up the Summer Shred tour and recently spoke to Metalunderground.com where they revealed they're planning a Canadian run as well.

Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.

Fullforce Checks In With Recording Update

Sweden's Fullforce has checked in with the following update about the band recording new material:

"It's been a while since we shared news about the recording process. Well, better late than never so to speak. Fullforce have been a bit delayed but, the band now lets us know that they are entering the end phase of the recording. CJ Grimmark have already started to do basic mixes of the songs to be completed by producer Pontus Lindmark. So, good news is that the album will be completely finished within 2 months if not earlier. Mike is currently in the studio recording the last few songs for the album. Next week Fullforce will deliver music to their promoter in Germany so, more news regarding labels and technical details will be announced very soon.

"The band is very, very happy with the outcome of the album and they think it will stand out because of the width musically on the album. There's a strong red thread but, nonetheless it jumps from straight forward, catchy heavy metal to more melodic and ethnic updated metal....the band is very enthusiastic... More news to follow shortly."

Forbidden Comments On New Album Artwork

Bay area thrashers Forbidden have revealed the cover artwork for the band's upcoming album "Omega Wave," which can be viewed here. Forbidden guitarist / songwriter Craig Locicero has checked in with the following update about his collaborative process with artist Kent Mathieu:

"As soon as Forbidden committed to writing a new record, I wondered where Kent Mathieu was. I'd always felt like Forbidden Evil and Twisted Into Form were pretty iconic album covers… when things like that actually seemed to matter. Then, the good people at Nuclear Blast actually located Kent! I got pretty excited and reached out to him immediately. He was equally excited to hear from us, too. The only real direction I gave Kent was to somehow tie the past into the future. Find a way to make the two skulls [from Forbidden Evil’s artwork] vital again. He had worked up about 12 sketches all kinds of variously cool stuff. Out of all of the pictures he sent me, I liked the way one of them was laid out because of it's simplicity. After thinking about it for a long while, I had a concept for Kent to work with. The Omega Wave concept. The title wasn't decided until I had a good idea for the cover.

"I don't want to over-explain the actual picture because there is enough symbolism for everyone to interpret everything differently. That is always a plus, in my book. What I can tell you is that the skull in the center is based upon the crystal skull of Belize. This skull was found at some of the pyramid ruins in two perfect pieces, jawbone and upper cranium. It was always quite a mystery, but some years later Hewlett Packard scientists did extensive tests on the skull and found many anomalies. More...

Kamelot Postponing North American Tour

Kamelot had previously announced the band would be recruiting Michael from Circus Maximus to fill in for Kamelot vocalist Roy, who has fallen ill, during the band's upcoming North American tour. Kamelot has now issued the following update about postponing the tour instead:

"Hi Kamelot Nation. As many of you know, Roy has fallen ill and could not make the North American tour. We have been rehearsing like madmen here in Tampa -- the band is tighter than ever and Michael from Circus Maximus is truly an amazing singer; if there is one male vocalist in this world who is on par with Roy, it is Michael! However, after today's rehearsal, we all decided that we do not feel right about doing the North American tour as anything less than a 100% Kamelot Experience.

"We appreciate that many fans have waited more than 2 years for new material and to see us perform together. Our new album, 'Poetry for the Poisoned' represents a labor of love from us, and to present it at anything less than full strength seems a disservice to all involved. Though we will suffer financial losses on this late hour cancellation, we still feel it’s the right decision for us as a band to make – we regret disappointing all those who worked so hard to shape this tour, and especially those fans who were still so willing to come through and support us despite Roy’s absence. We are humbled by that type of support, and we sincerely hope that our return in full form Kamelot strength will be more reward for your unwavering loyalty!

"We will reschedule all shows in the near future, once Roy is able to return. Refunds can be obtained at the point of purchase. To thank Michael for his effort, the band will still appear at the soldout Progpower Festival, as a one off show with him and many special guest singers from the festival. Again, we want to thank all of you for your amazing support!!"

Psalm Members Form New Band

Belgium's Psalm has issued the following announcement about a new side project called Cult of Erinyes:

"Greetings, Corvus, Mastema and Baal have finally decided to unveil their side-project, born a few months ago: Cult of Eryines. This new extreme and punitive outfit intends to evolve in the realm of Black Metal while pushing its limits a bit further. Psalm has gradually integrated some black metal elements, but this new project is 100% dedicated to this genre. One could see Cult of Erinyes as Psalm’s evil, devious and deformed twin.

"Cult of Erinyes did not waste any time to spawn its first ill-natured child, as their first EP entitled '..Golgotha..' has just been recorded, mixed and mastered at Blackout Multimedia Studio (Enthroned). The band will soon announce this EP’s official release. The band’s first album should be recorded in the next few months and published next year.

"You can listen to a first excerpt from the upcoming EP '..Golgotha..' on the band’s official MySpace page. Of course, this side-project doesn’t mean Psalm is put to an end. The band is still working on new tracks and hopes to complete its line-up in a near future (more information on this topic soon)."

System Divide Premieres New Song, "Hollow," Online

BlankTV recently premiered a new song from System Divide entiteld "Hollow." The song is off of the band's upcoming release "The Conscious Sedation," which is due out September 14th via Metal Blade Records. We'll have the exclusive full album stream coming up on Thursday before the release, but in the meantime, you can hear "Hollow" in the promotional video below.

Vocalist Miri Milman breaks down the lyrical content of "Hollow":

"This song is personal to me; it speaks of a person that suffers continuously yet doesn't have the courage, guts, or strength to change his/her situation and keeps on being stuck in this downward spiral.

"It is about the fear of changing something in your life for the better, the fear of taking that step which could make everything better. The song develops towards the person actually daring to take the step and seeing there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

"This is obviously the ballad of the record, the calm between the storm. We wanted to also add to the diversity of the record and not only have fast songs all over the record. While being a softer System Divide song; it still has a part that will crush your balls with a smile :) We hope you will all enjoy listening to it as much as we had writing it! METAL!!!"

Liturgy's Bernard Gann Joins Flaming Tusk

New York City indie metal band Flaming Tusk has announced that founding guitarist Don Blood has left the band and been replaced by Bernard Gann of fellow NYC metal scene stalwarts Liturgy. Gann remains a member of Liturgy and will divide his time between the two groups.

Liturgy kicked off a European tour on September 4th in Denmark, and Flaming Tusk will resume writing new material and performing to support their current LP, "Old, Blackened Century," shortly after Gann's return from that tour.

Flaming Tusk was founded in 2008 by drummer Dumnorix Xristophage and guitarist Don Blood who were immediately joined by guitarist Zosimus, bassist Schneidaar and vocalist Stolas Trephinator. This lineup recorded a self-produced EP, "Abigail," and a full length album, "Old, Blackened Century," both on the independent High Water Media label. Blood's departure and Gann's arrival marks the first personnel change for the band.
