Italian symphonic metal band Sound Storm has announced it will enter the recording studio at the end of September with producer Ettore Rigotti (Disarmonia Mundi, Destrage, Slowmotion Apocalypse, Stigma) to begin work on a new album. The as-yet-untitled album is set for release in early 2012.
"The new album is very different from the previous one" says Dusk, guitarist and composer of the band, "because the sound is much more extreme and elaborate, thanks to the huge work of arrangement done with Alex. As usual, all the other guys have been working on these songs, making them unique."
"After the many albums I recorded in the past with other bands," adds Alexandros, keyboardist and piano player, "I can easily say this is going to be the most inspired and complete album that I've ever composed."
Studio reports from the band, along with additional details on the upcoming album, will be released in the coming weeks.

Candlelight Records today confirms the worldwide signing of thrash act Rumpelstiltskin Grinder. The Philadelphia-based band is already working on a new album, titled "Ghostmaker," expected for release early spring 2012. Guitarist Ryan Moll comments, “We are psyched to be on Candlelight.” Sharing details about the ongoing recording he notes, “Right now we are in the studio working on our third and most intense release to date. This album promises to be the fastest, darkest, most relentless and insane album yet. It will contain some of the most bone-crushing, graveyard stomping, Frankenstein/Dracula/Wolfman hate-fuck riffage written thus far.”
Guitarist Matt Moore adds, “Our wretched new masterpiece will be finished soon enough. Each song has its own distinct and strange aura of speed, darkness, brute strength, violence, cunning, and power. Like any respectable band, we have raised the bar and taken on musical and lyrical concepts that would drive commoners insane. Faster. Louder. Darker. Crazier.”

Every week in Unearthing The Metal Underground, we check out bands in the underground who deserve more notice for the excellent heavy metal they are producing. This week we're looking at the underground scene in the capital of the United States, Washington, DC.
The District usually conjures up thoughts of monuments, patriotism, and presidential blow jobs, but if you listen closely, ignoring all the political windbags, inner city gunshots and almost weekly protests for one cause or another and you manage to avoid all the indie rock hipster bars and DJ dance nights you can hear the rumblings of a metal scene overshadowed by just about everything else in the most powerful city in the world. But unlike the city's rats who scurry away in the shadows these bands are screaming to be heard, and cranking their amps up too! Here's three of the best underground metal bands in Washington, DC right now that you won't find in any of the tourist guides.
Ilsa is a metal band with a sound that lies somewhere in the filthiest place where old school death metal and sludgy doom collide. This five piece band is raw in the best sense of the word. Heaviness exudes from every riff these guys play, regardless of the tempo, and the rhythm section breaks up bursts of brutality with dirty grooves. On top of it all you've got lead singer Orion's vocals which scream out with a pain that can't be faked. They're often found playing to packed basements at house shows but Ilsa isn't just some garage band. They’re a great underground band really making art for the unwashed masses and they deserve more recognition. Listen to their song Frostthrower on their MySpace page here and you'll see what I mean.

Bolt Thrower posted the following update on a free show which is being planned to celebrate the band's 25th Anniversary:
2011 is the year of the 25th anniversary in the history of BOLT THROWER. It´s about time for an update from the band:
“Anniversaries are kind of easy to achieve. For a band, just don’t split up and you’ll reach one, whether it’s 10, 20 or 35 years. And this year we’ve reached ’25 years of not splitting up’!
"We managed to stop others from making a big fuss about it, and didn’t give in to the numerous offers and suggestions on how we should cash in on it! But it has made us appreciate the opportunities we’ve been given since 1986, and that we’ve been able to do everything we wanted to do without compromising in any way. We’ve been lucky enough to have played a lot of killer shows with great bands and met a lot of very cool people over the years, and we think that’s the stuff that deserves some kind of celebration.
"So, we want to organize a Bolty Birthday Bash, where we can reunite with some of these bands and invite you, the people who have supported us over the last 25 years. We were hoping to have everything worked out by now, but it turns out organizing a free show comes with its own unique problems, but we’ll get there in the end!
"Well, that’s all we can say for now, there will be more news to come soon, so keep checking back.
Cheers, Bolt Thrower"
