I had just landed in Charlotte hours before and driving 3.5 hours to Atlanta to attend my very first ProgPower USA experience. No sooner did I arrive in my hotel and check in, when I called in to Kamelot's tour manager, who asked me if I could come early. First time in Atlanta...and I had an interview with founder/guitarist Tom Youngblood in 15 minutes. I took a quick survey of the city on my walk down to Center Stage, the venue that hosted the first night of the "Silverthorn" North American tour with Nightwish. This second night proved most special, as guest vocalist Alissa White-Gluz (The Agonist) was on hand to provide backing vocals for new track "Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife)" and live mainstay "March of Mephisto" (check out Metal Underground.com's review of night two of Kamelot & Nightwish pre-shows kick off at the ProgPower USA at this location).
Youngblood sat down to discuss "Silverthorn," its concept and music direction, the vocal search that led to new vocalist Tommy Karevik and what the ProgPower USA experience is like for a musician. More...

Amenra has revealed the cover artwork for new album "Mass V," which can be viewed below, and the following press release was also issued:
"To Amenra, aesthetics are not merely supplementary to the musical experience but essential to it, and for their monumental new album Mass V, they have surpassed themselves. Today the band has proudly unveiled the artwork and track listing for the album which will see the light of day on November 27th, their first for new label home Neurot Recordings. All photos contained in the layout for Mass V were taken by Stefaan Temmerman and the art itself was made and assembled by Webecameaware."
On the subject of the album’s visual aspects, the band revealed the following personal testimonial about how it came to be: "In November 2011 we went out wandering through our own and neighbouring countries. Looking for the perfect setting for the artwork to the new album. After a couple of days our trail ended at the village of Wissant in North France. The site is a gathering of destroyed bunkers from the second World War. The force and strength coming from these weathered constructions was overwhelming. Concrete blasted to pieces, hundreds of bullet holes everywhere, the salt and sand were once covered in blood. We drew respect from these stone temples, this once, was a world of pain. We stayed overnight at the site and slept on one of the bunkers just so we could get swallowed by the sea as tide came in and when the dawn brought first light, Stefaan Temmerman took the picture we knew was going to be perfect to represent our MASS V. It was a long and cold night." More...
Scelerata has now revealed the cover artwork for new album "The Sniper," which can be viewed below. The following press release was also issued:
"'The Sniper,' the new release from Scelerata, will undoubtedly turn heads, forcing metal icons to watch their rearview mirrors as these guys pull up fast with the nitrous afterburners firing! Testosterone infused, melodic power metal best describes their music, though there are also many moments showing a progressive edge and showcasing immense vocal talent.
"The Sniper presents a stunning vocal performance from Fabio Juan, showing a much more matured band that delivers a heavier more aggressive sound, beautifully mixing power metal and melodic progressive elements ranging from angst ridden lyrics of corruption to sorrowful love lost. The huge and intricate production makes this album a must hear for any true metal fan.
"The Sniper was produced, mixed and mastered by Charlie Bauerfeind with guitarist Renato Osorio. The album also features Andi Deris (Helloween) and Paul Di'Anno (ex-Iron Maiden) as very special guests, who not only sing but helped compose and co-write the songs. Scelerata got their start with their debut Darkness & Light which was released in 2006. It was mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward and featured guest appearances by Renato Borghetti (Accordeon), Edu Falaschi (Angra) and Thiago Bianchi (Shaman). More...

Dutch death metal kings AntropomorphiA have released the second song of their comeback album "Evangelivm Nekromantia." Navigate to Rock Hard Germany here to inhale the raw power of "Anointment By Sin." Comments AntropomorphiA singer/guitarist Ferry Damen on the song:
"When we were recording vocals we invited our good friend Eclipse (Verbum Verus, ex-Sauron) to add some demented screams of suffering to the track 'Impure Desecration'. After this track was draped with eternal sickness I started to work on 'Anointment by Sin', a track that is part of the second chapter and basically handles about one of the female figures who gets murdered by her religiously obsessed husband who thinks of her and her new born flesh as unpure after she shared some perversive sexual acts with a woman, she believes is the true love of her life. Eclipse really liked this murder tale and added some vocals on this track as well…with crushing result" More...

Downfall of Gaia has now released the second song off new album, "Suffocating In The Swarm Of Cranes." Surf over to the Metal Hammer Germany website here to stream the new song "Drowning By Wing Beats."
The previously posted first single "In The Rivers Bleak" is also still available for streaming at this location.
Comments Downfall of Gaia: "The concept album 'Suffocating In The Swarm Of Cranes' is telling a story about a person who falls victim to his thoughts and becomes consumed by the pressures of the outside world. Suffering from insomnia, the day by day routine and the security that things are completely out of control nowadays, all of this puts so much pressure on him that he is slowly losing his mind. It's a huge story about a person and the sickness, his state of mind and how his psychological conscience develops.
"This story is representative for a more and more fast moving time such as today where it's way too easy to lose control and to get buried by the growing weights on our own backs. Compared to our last releases, we've got the most mixed style on the new album and it has a lot of dynamic. It's more aggressive than the other stuff. It still has influences from sludge, black metal, doom, hardcore or post rock parts. It's a wide range of music which makes all of us feel really comfortable!"
The album's track listing is:
2. Drowning By Wing Beats
3. In the Rivers Bleak
4. I Fade Away
5. Beneath The Crown Of Cranes
6. Giving Their Heir to the Masses

The new Bison B.C. release "Lovelessness" will be available October 22nd on Metal Blade Records, and today Brooklyn Vegan is hosting an exclusive premiere of another new track from the album. Check out the song "Last and First Things" right here or in the player below. Metal Blade Records also commented:
"In the great Canadian spirit of loss and heart ache, the downer foursome known as Bison B.C. have managed to scourge their rotting brains desperately puking out new psalms of suffering. Akin to a lunatic writing their opus on the bedroom wall with their own shit comes this strange noise from the west coast melting pot of shit and failure; in a country based on terrifying distance and lonesome, stoic suffering. Lovelessness does not portray the death of love or the lack of the same. Rather it attempts to map out the pathetic and desperate pursuit of love, which in itself becomes violent like a cancer, an assault on anything that is good in the world. A heartfelt repulsion towards anything that could bring pleasure, because with happiness we suffer truly - the wanting of more. Gluttons! Pigs to the trough! Lead us to treachery! Lead us to solitude! More...
Swedish death metal overlords Aeon are pleased to unveil the details of their fourth studio offering, "Aeons Black." Set to drop via Metal Blade Records on November 20th, 2012, the mammoth 15-track "Aeons Black" was recorded at Empire Studio in Östersund, Sweden. The album was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Ronnie Björnström (Garageland Studios) and features cover art by Kristian "Necrolord" Wåhlin (Bathory, At The Gates, Dissection, Emperor et al).
Notes founding guitarist Zeb Nilsson of the band's latest offering of irreverence: "This is definitely our most varied albums to date; it has heavier songs yet it also has lots of fast blastbeats and double bass drumming. It's groovier this time, which I think we lacked on our last album, Path of Fire, which was fast paced almost all the way through. That and the amazing mix by Ronnie Björnström makes me feel pretty confident that this album will appeal to more people than our previous albums. And no, we have not gone softer in any aspect; it's just easier to catch with all this grooviness. It's metal right up your ass!"
The first single, title track "Aeons Black," premieres today via the band's official landing page. You can also listen to the song in the player below. Comments guitarist Daniel Dlimi of the tune:
"'Aeons Black' is the first song that I started to work on as we began writing for this album, and it's also one of the very last to get finished. My goal was to create a somewhat heavier, odder, not-so-typical 'AEON' song. Once happy with the musical arrangement, I handed it over to [vocalist] Tommy [Dahlstöm] to let him write some lyrics and vocal patterns for it. He managed to get it even darker and more eerie. The lyrics are all about how everything living eventually must face the inevitable, which is death. There will be no savior, no heaven nor hell… just a pitch black, silent empty void." More...

If you ever wondered where much of the hardcore and some of the punk scene went in the past couple of decades, the answer is it went even more underground. Back in the early nineties, when hardcore and metal came together to create the wildly popular thrashcore movement, a lot of the true hardcore punks in the scene remained disenchanted. They identified with the metallic element but wanted the music to remain distinct and focus on ideals and themes of socio-political decay.
No better was this driven home more than by the act of several commercial bands loosely labeled 'punk' by the airwaves, like Green Day or Sublime, that made the true denizens of hardcore create an even more underground niche of brutality in their musical style - thus giving rise to the powerviolence movement. The origin of the term is disputed, but is mostly attributed to Infest guitarist Matt Domino, at the time in the band Neanderthal with Eric Wood, who blurted out 'power fuckin violence' in an interview on alternative Californian station KXLU. The term stuck and was first mentioned in the song "Hispanic Small Man Power (HSMP)" by pioneering genre band Man Is The Bastard. More...
