Rotting Christ Cancels Second South American Tour

Greek metal act Rotting Christ has announced the second cancellation of a South American tour in just 3 months. The band commented by saying:

"Being victims of an unprofessional treatment from our South American agency, we are in the very uncomfortable situation to announce for another one time the cancellation of the so expected tour in Latin America. We assure you that we did our best as a band in order to save the tour but the luck of [professionalism] didn't allow us so many limits!

"It seems that there is a curse that do not want our band back in your continent brothers. Really, we can not give as a band a different explanation on this. The only we can give is our promise that we will use our own power to annihilate this curse and to make this tour happen in the close future. A huge sorry to our Latin American metal brothers, that was not our mistake at all."

Former Unearth Bassist Passes Away

Massachusetts metalcore act Unearth has commented on the passing of their former bass player Chris Rybicki who passed away due to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. The band commented by saying:

"Yesterday we lost our long time friend and original bass player Chris 'Rover' Rybicki. He lost his life from injuries sustained three weeks ago at the hands of an alleged drunk driver.

"Rover hadn't been in the band since 2001, but he remained a good friend to us all throughout the years and this tragedy has hit us hard. Not only was Rover a talented musician, but he was also one of the funniest dudes you would ever know. His wit, dark humor and don't-give-a-fuck attitude made him a unique person that we all loved having in our lives. His memory will live on amongst his family and friends with the countless stories of Rover being Rover. He will be sorely and forever missed. Rover played on our our EP 'Above The Fall Of Man', our debut full length, 'The Stings of Conscience', and also on two tracks off our 2002 EP, 'Endless'.

"We would like to take a second to urge people to not drink and drive. Please be responsible so these tragedies stop happening."

Pit Stories: Permanent Disfigurement By The Pit

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Corey Archuleta of Colorado melodic death metal band Allegaeon shares a story from his first pit, and one that he will never forget:

Back in the early exposure of metal, I attended my first ever metal show (bunch of crap local bands) when I was in middle school. A friend pushed my panzy ass into the pit, and got knocked into the air by some large "metal looking" guy. I fell onto my hip, and limped away. 9 months later I was in the shower and noticed my entire left leg was shifted, and causing my feet into a v shape. Went to doc, got xrays and a "how are you walking?" My growth plate slipped out of place, and my leg was growing wrong. I then got a 6inch screw put in, and they were unable to correct the damage that was done, but prevented it from getting worse. I am unable to ride a bike, because of the motion. My right leg is longer as well. I went in for a ct scan a few weeks ago, and now the screw might need to be taken out, and a fake hip might be in place for me. Metal.

What could possibly be more metal than permanent disability/disfigurement at the hands of a mosh pit? Luckily Corey's in a kick-ass metal band or that story might not be one he'd want to share with others.

Allegaeon released their debut album, "Fragments Of Form And Function," this summer and just wrapped up a short tour in August. You can hear "A Cosmic Question" here or on their MySpace player with a few others.

Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.

Vektor Checks In With Band Update

Arizona based virtuosic thrash act Vektor has issued the following update about the band's recent and upcoming activity:

"We wanted to give an update for everyone on what's been going on in Vektor world since tour ended and what the future holds... First off, our 6-week trek around the US in June/July/Aug. was a god damn blast. Thanks for everyone who came out to the shows and supported us, helped us with booking, or gave us a floor to crash on. We appreciate it immensely. Made a lot of new friends, heard some great bands and spread the Vektor disease as far as we could. If we still haven't hit your area on this tour or the previous winter tour, we are definitely trying to for the future (San Francisco, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, etc).

"The vinyl release of Black Future is finally out, and we apologize for the delay. It was released 9/14 in 3 versions (all of them are 2LP, full artwork gatefold): - Black vinyl (300 copies) - Blue/Purple Splatter vinyl with cover artwork slipmat, hand-numbered (100 copies) - Green vinyl with logo slipmat, hand-numbered (100 copies)

"They are going rather quickly and will NOT be repressed any time in the near future, so get over to Heavy Artillery's webstore to grab one of those before they are gone! Heavy Artillery helped us put together some really, really cool packages for these and they are really awesome collector's items that look and sound fucking rad. Best to buy now, so you don't have to pay out the ass on eBay in 10 years. More...

Kataklysm Guitarist Talks "Heaven's Venom"

Canadian death metal maestros Kataklysm took a brief break from their northern hyperblast sound to dip into Roman themes with the Ex Deo project. While Ex Deo continues, the members returned to Kataklysm to release the latest album "Heaven's Venom."

Guitarist Jean-François Dagenais took some time out during the band's recent North American tour dates to discuss the new album, stating "I think it’s a really aggressive album with a lot of emotions put out on the table because we’ve gone through a lot in the last few years. It’s one of my personal favorites. As soon as we finished at the studio I still played it and enjoyed it. Usually when we’re done with an album I’ve heard it too much, but this one I still enjoy months later." Jean-François also explained what Kataklysm and Ex Deo will be up to in the future. More...

Madball Splits With Drummer During Tour

Madball, which is currently on the road supporting Comeback Kid on the "Through The Noise Tour," has issued the following statement regarding splitting with drummer Jay Weinberg:

"I'm letting Jay go in Canada because I just feel he doesn't represent this band well on a character level. It would go against my own code of ethics to keep him around. Not saying he's a bad drummer. I won't take that away from him. But the reality is - he has a lot to learn about paying dues, and about life in general. Granted, he is a kid, but I'm not sure that he'll ever be built for this particular lifestyle. I wish him the best of luck, but the Madball machine rolls on!”

Madball is still set to finish out the tour with a soon to be announced replacement drummer. All future band plans, including the band's upcoming European tour with Sick of It All, and the release of "Empire" on October 12th, remain unaffected and on schedule.

The band's upcoming live shows are as follows:

9/21 St. Catharines, ON @ Level 3
9/22 London, ON @ Music Hall
9/23 Toronto, ON @ The Opera House
9/24 Ottawa, ON @ Ritual
9/25 Montreal, QC @ Le Studio
9/26 Jonquiere, QC @ Le Bunker

Wormrot Checks In From The Road

Singapore based grindcore act Wormrot is currently embarked on a North American tour. The band has now posted a new tour blog online via Invisible Oranges. An excerpt from the blog follows:

We’ve been playing 10 shows since we’ve arrived in the US. So far things have been great for us. Mike (Tombs) is our Tour Manager or Road Warrior (quoted from Mike, Sunyata Atanamar) and he’s really been cool with making sure the tour goes well and we’re well taken care of. That’s a first time for us!

Let’s start with the show in The Bowery Electric, New York. It was a last minute gig for us. Wormrot is actually not in the lineup but Earache managed to squeeze us in. The promoter was cool to let us play last minute. It was our very first show in the US and it was fucking awesome. We also get to meet the Earache US team in the club and Mike from Sunyata Atanamar blog was there too! We didn’t know Metalsucks staff was there until we read their blog. Great people, great place, great gig! It was a great start of the tour after the 21 hours flight from Singapore!

We played in Now That’s Class in Cleveland, Ohio with Mobile Deathcamp on the next day. The drive from New York to Cleveland was an ass! It wasn’t a full house but crowd was supportive! We met lots of friends and made new friends.

God Dethroned Announces New Album Release

Dutch death metallers God Dethroned have finished the recordings of their new album "Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross." Singer/guitarist Henri Sattler stated:

“Just like with our two previous albums, we've been recording at the Soundlodge Studio's in Leer, Germany with producer Joerg Uken. 'Under the Sign of the Iron Cross' is another concept album about World War One. Having done a concept album about this topic before didn't make it an easy job, but reading Ernst Juenger's 'In Stahlgewittern' (Storm of Steel), which is his biography of his daily experiences in the trenches during the war, gave me so much inspiration that I managed to do a good job on the lyrics and I'm really satisfied with the result, but this is of course something you will have to check out for yourselves.

"Musically the new album turned out to be one of the most extreme records we ever did. Nevertheless with the very recognizable God Dethroned hooks present in all the songs. Producer Joerg Uken outdid himself this time, because our new album is in my opinion the best produced album we ever had. Extremely raw, heavy, but crystal clear and super dynamic at the same time.”

"Under The Sign Of The Iron Cross" will be released the 19th/22nd of November 2010 via Metal Blade Records in Europe and on the 23rd of November in North America.

New Withered Song Posted Onlined For Free Download

Atlanta blackened doom metal band WITHERED has launched “Extinguished With the Weary,” the lead track from their upcoming album, “Dualitas,” due October 26th, as part of the new “Metal Swim” collection, presented by Scion A/V and Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. The track is available exclusively as a free download at this location starting today.

“Dualitas” was recorded by KYLESA’s Phillip Cope at the Jam Room in Columbia, SC. The CD and vinyl versions of the album have different covers, both of which were created by Paul Romano (Mastodon, Trivium, The Acacia Strain), who also did the cover for “Folie Circulaire.”

Guitarist/vocalist Mike Thompson commented on the track, “We chose ‘Extinguished With The Weary,' because this song really showcases some of the newer styling to be experienced on ‘Dualitas.’ It is actually the last song we wrote for the album and we always have a tendency to gravitate towards our newest music when given a choice. We are always looking ahead. This song in particular deals with this same concept. It is about letting go of your emotional & moral foundation. Casting away all the conditioning forced upon you by society, family, friends, etc. so you can redevelop your own reality and approach to life. It’s about finding the freedom to, and eliminating any fear of, establishing a pure existence for yourself without repercussion. Also, it’s really heavy and nasty; a really good listen.”

Sabbat Confirms Festival Appearance

U.K. thrash metallers Sabbat has announced it's participation in the upcoming edition of the Damnation Festival. Sabbat will perform on the Jagermeister Stage. Damnation Festival 2010 takes place on Saturday, November 6, in Leeds University Union. The Dillinger Escape Plan and Paradise Lost will now co-headline the downsized event, along with Hardcore punk act Discharge who has also been announced to perform.

Festival Director Gavin McInally said: "It's no secret we've had a tough year of it so being able to confirm two top acts like Discharge and Sabbat is a real pleasure.

"Aside from the Jagermeister Stage competition and perhaps another smaller band on the Terrorizer Stage, the bill is pretty much complete for this year and despite the lack of an exclusive headliner we're delighted to once again put together a three stage line-up we're immensely proud of."
