The pit may be holy ground for metalheads, but that doesn't stop it from being site to some of the most ridiculous and sometimes violent antics from fellow heavy music lovers. Each week we share mosh pit stories from metal bands, and today we have the following story from Florida act Abiotic:
We've had our share of crazy pit stories, but one I will never forget happened when we played our first Desolation Fest in Englewood, Florida. I remember that we had some trouble before heading out to the show, so we arrived a bit late. All the kids looked like they had been waiting for a while, and they simply couldn't wait any longer for the show to continue.
We began to set up as quickly as possible. When we were ready to go, I remember my drummer giving us a queue, and just a few seconds into our first song, a kid gets kneed in the face. Everyone immediately got sucked into a huge brawl. The kid who got hit managed to get up and break free from the crowd. He took one of my drummers china cymbals, and he began to threaten everyone. This kid went utterly mental and said he was going to kill everyone's family. I don't want to sound harsh, but it was quite amusing.
Miami's Abiotic will release the new "Symbiosis" album on October 22nd via Metal Blade Records. You can listen to a new song off the album, titled "To Burgeon and Languish," at this location. Check back in again next Tuesday for more Pit Stories from metal bands. More...

The following press release has been issued about Lacrimosa releasing new album "Revolution" in North America next month:
"Three years following their last studio release Lacrimosa is back with their 11th studio album 'Revolution,' which is scheduled for an October 16th release date in North America via End of the Light Records. This album will not only captivate listeners with its thematic elements, it also features a stellar guest lineup! Next to choirs and orchestras the band recorded their new album with Mille Petrozza mastermind of the thrash metal pioneers Kreator and on drums Stefan Schwarzmann, from Accept!

The Secret has set a North American street date of October 23rd, 2012 for new album "Agnus Dei," and BrooklynVegan has now hosted an exclusive premiere of the album’s opening title track. Check out the song at this location. The following press release was also issued:
"If one ever needs a prompt that Apocalypse is near, a session with Italy’s most destructive musical force will certainly reinforce the thought. Since 2003 The Secret has waged musical warfare with their incendiary brew of blasting, metallic hatred, their songs growing sonically more caustic and lyrically more impatient with the human race with each studio offering. The band combines elements of crust/grind, primitive black metal, dark soundscapes and monolithic riffs to take the listener by the hand through a hallucinated trip towards a foggy and yet invisible tomorrow. So as the end of the world is supposedly upon us in 2012, what more appropriate time would there be than now to attack the planet with a new LP from this hateful act?
"The Secret’s attack is more corrosive and convincing than ever on the newly completed Agnus Dei. As with their third album Solve Et Coagula, the new opus was recorded by Kurt Ballou (High on Fire, Converge, Black Breath) at Godcity Studios, resulting in a blasphemous titan that is without question their heaviest, and most filthy crust-ridden recording to date. Swelling with thirteen unstoppable new anthems in under forty-five minutes, Angus Dei will prove itself to be the most hateful release from this killing machine to date, as every album in their discography has."
The album's track listing is:
1. Agnus Dei
2. May God Damn All Of Us
3. Violent Infection
4. Geometric Power
5. Post Mortem Nihil Est
6. Daily Lies
7. Love Your Enemy
8. Vermin Of Dust
9. Darkness I Became
10. Heretic Temple
11. The Bottomless Pit

Bay Area metal band Early Graves has debuted a new song, “Pure Hell,” from upcoming album "Red Horse" through NPR.org. Check out the song right here. "Red Horse" will be released on October 30th, but is available for pre-order now at this location.
“This is a song dedicated to Makh,” singer John Strachan tells NPR. “He always had that pure hell back patch. So I wrote this for him and the way he lived.”
Early Graves suffered the tragic loss of founding singer Makh Daniels who died in an automobile accident while the band was on tour in 2010. Two years later the band members return, carrying the torch for their fallen brother with long-time friend of the band John Strachan, of the Funeral Pyre, stepping in permanently for Makh on vocals.
Fueled by relentless perseverance to honor Makh’s memory and prove to fans they still can melt faces, Early Graves composed an eight song warhorse of an album that clocks in at just over thirty-two brutal minutes. Early Graves is currently on a U.S. tour, supporting the upcoming release of "Red Horse" with Skeletonwitch. More...
Finnish metal act Battle Beast has parted ways with vocalist Nitte Valo, who suddenly left the band via email on August 19, 2012. The band announced her replacement as Noora Louhimo. In addition, the band will tour Europe this fall with Sonata Arctica. The full announcement reads:
"Let’s start with the real beef: Nitte Valo has left the band.
"August 19th Nitte sent the rest of the band an e-mail stating that she was leaving the band, effect immediately. As the reason for her leaving she recited her will to focus on her family life. As this happened without any prior notice, the rest us were slightly disappointed.
But what’s done is done, and we’re thrilled to announce the new BATTLE BEAST vocalist with a voice and character to take the band to heights of glory.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we give you NOORA LOUHIMO
"This young singer is already experienced in performing some of the most demanding rock songs in existence and is now ready to take her big step into the metal world. With lungs of leather and a voice to order gods with, Noora possesses all the requirements to deliver the kind of power needed for performing BATTLE BEAST’s music. Don’t believe us? Hear her ripping through ‘Iron Hand’ in the video attached. See what you think after that. Noora will also be performing all the lead vocals on BATTLE BEAST’s second album set to be released early 2013.
"With Noora in the band, BATTLE BEAST is ready to take itself and its music to the next level. The whole band is now burning with newly found energy and motivation and hell bent on conquering the entire metal consuming planet.
"World conquest, you ask? Well, that leads us to our second topic. More...
Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of Norwegian black metal act Koldbrann. The label commented:
"The Norwegian horde's third full length album will hit stores through Season of Mist's Underground Division in early 2013. Koldbrann will debut 'Totalt Sjelelig Bankerott,' a 7" single including a song from the forthcoming album (title pending) and an exclusive B side entitled 'Kasjtjeijs Svøpe' on Nov. 16th. The single will also be available digitally. Koldbrann's first two albums 'Nekrotisk Inkvisition' and 'Moribund' will be re-issued via Season of Mist, along with 2008's 'Stigma: På kant med livet' EP."
"Koldbrann is pleased to announce that from this moment on, Season of Mist will be handling our nekrotic business," vocalist Mannevond states. "As one of the leading dealers of aural blasphemy, we are confident that they will serve as the tool needed to spread our gospel of oppression. We have kept you waiting, but rest assured, we have been striving in our cellars, slowly and persistently chiseling out our utmost arrogant and depraved work to date. Sordid details will follow. The time is ripe, let the end times roll!"
August Burns Red is once again pleased to spread some pre-holiday cheer with the release of “Sleigh Ride,” the second new track from upcoming Christmas album "August Burns Red Presents: Sleddin’ Hill, A Holiday Album" - in stores October 9th from Solid State Records.
"’Sleigh Ride’ was the last song to come together for Sleddin' Hill' and one of the trickier songs to cover due to its crazy structure and various key changes,” says guitarist JB Brubaker. “The original song is all over the place and so is our version. ‘Sleigh Ride’ is a complete roller coaster - there is even a jazz section in the middle complete with horns. The end reminds me of a rock n roll dance party in the 1960s. I don't know what else to say - you just have to listen to it."
Death metal act Abysme, featuring former Funerus member Brad Heiple, will release the CD version of first full-length album "Strange Rites" on September 24th via Hellthrasher Productions, with a vinyl treatment coming later this year on Blood Harvest Records.
"Strange Rites" features cover artwork by Putrid Matt and has the following track listing:

2. Beyond the Seventh Door

5. Gift to the Gods
6. We Shall Sleep
7. Terminal Delirium
8. The Third Day
9. Fallen Colossus
10. Remarkable Conqueror

Season of Mist has issued the following announcement about female-fronted act Eths splitting with its vocalist: "We are sorry to announce that vocalist Candice is leaving French modern metal act ETHS. Below is the singer’s full statement on the subject. Season of Mist thank Candice for her work and dedication and wish her all the best for the future."
Candice also posted the following message online:
“It is with deep sorrow that I am informing you of my departure from the band. I am leaving four friends, two of which I even consider as brothers.
“I made this choice for personal and family reasons. It has been very hard to make this decision and to face the truth about my longings and a passion that is no longer strong enough to prevail. I can’t live unconditionally for music and its listeners anymore. Although the stage remains an outlet, I can’t live up to such a demanding job anymore. I have been living for music for the past 15 years and it has given me back so much, but there are now things I can’t sacrifice anymore and I need to take care of my family and stay with them.
“The band wants to go on, as the guys are still burning with a rage and a motivation that I don’t have anymore – you can’t cheat with things that have to come from your heart, body and soul. I am begging you to keep ETHS and the people who will replace me close to your hearts. This is the end of a chapter but you have to give a chance to novelty and change. I am definitely not irreplaceable. Until the band finds a permanent successor, two people will share the vocal duties and I asked my friend Virginie from KELLS (please be nice to her) to be one of them. Before that, I will carry out the remaining gigs until October to bid you farewell and enjoy my last moments on stage. This may surprise you and the last shows may be emotionally painful, but I prefer to talk about it publicly now. More...

Christos Antoniou, Septiclfesh’s guitarist and Chaostar’s mastermind, has issued the following update about recruiting a guest musician:
“Chaostar is in the exciting position to announce the participation of the emblematic David Vincent (Morbid Angel) to the forthcoming album. David narrates the prologue of the most vicious song on the album, shading his dark and imposing shadow over the band’s music.
"I consider that cooperation as one of the most representative of Chaostar’s new work. A tragic heroin taken from the ancient Greek tragedies meets the devilish power of the unsurpassable voice of Mr.Vincent.”
Chaostar’s forthcoming album, which title is yet to be announced, will be released next year through Season of Mist.
The new Enslaved track, “Veilburner,” is available for streaming through tomorrow on the Metal Hammer Germany website.
Enslaved rhythm guitarist Ivar Bjørnson and bassist/vocalist Grutle Kjellson have been offering song commentaries on their trademarked Norwegian strain of progressive extreme metal. The following third of eight installments provides insight on “Veilburner,” which appears on Enslaved’s twelfth studio album, "RIITIIR" (reviewed here), due out in Europe on September 28th and in North America on October 9th.
Bjørnson comments on the track:
“This was the second song written for the album, and man (!), did it turn out great! It was probably the song that ‘kicked in’ first and strongest during our rehearsing for the album. I think the song is perfect for Cato's drum style; every time I listen to it I discover something new and magnificent! A fond memory from the recording sessions is when one of the studio owners, Jørgen Træen (Norwegian top producer), stopped by and heard the song. He said it represented everything he cherished in Metal (like everybody else, he was a metalhead earlier on - at some point in history, everybody must have been into Metal if they're all telling the truth). He found it catchy, grandiose without overdone pomposity, with ear-candy drumming and solid songwriting.
"Moving on to the lyrics; again we're at the cliché ‘it is what it is.’ There's a veil to burn, so gather your strength, focus, and perform the rite! Whether it be behavioral adjustments, mental synthesis, or simply putting on this particular track obscenely loud, doesn't matter: If you have the fire and a will to burn, it is going to work! Just be aware that what lies beyond the veil might not be pretty. The better you know yourself, the better are the chances of avoiding surprises when you see behind the veil.” More...

Point Of Our Resistance will release the new 24 song album "Extinction of Trust" on September 22nd through Get Pissed Stay Pissed Records, with the cassette version coming later in the year on Dead Beat Media. The album is also currently available for streaming through the bandcamp player below. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"Formed by members of Fatalist, Decrypt, Stump, Burning at the Stake, and Dirty Dead in Ventura, CA. in late 2010, P.O.O.R. plays death/grind along the lines of Napalm Death, Phobia, and Exhumed. The 34 minute album was mixed by John Haddad at Trench Studio's (Phobia, Murder Construct, Exhumed, Intronaut) and features Matt Harvey from Exhumed on guest bocals and guitar solos. The digital version of the album is available for $5.00 on the bands Bandcamp page here, and the CD will be available on the band's website here next week."
John Haddad of Trench Studios had this to say about the album: "What can I say, this shit is BRUTAL!!! The records intensity alone makes me want to get off my ass and go do something productive like putting my head thru the windshield of some Cal Trans vehicles on the shoulder of a freeways off ramp. I had the pleasure of tracking the drums and mixing this album…. does this make me biased?…maybe a little… but right out of the gate I knew I was working on something that was special and unique for this genre. Each track has something different to offer. Diversity in the song writing is definitely brought to the table. Clocks in at 34 mins, perfect length for a 'grind-core' record… faint of heart need not apply!!! Good work guys!" More...
"God of Death & Disease," a compilation disc featuring the earliest recordings from death metal legends Morgion, is now available via Dark Descent Records. Before releasing three epic doom/death albums in the mid 90s into the early 2000s, Morgion recorded two demos and an EP. These three recordings represent Morgion's early pure death metal roots - 1991's "Rabid Decay" demo, 1992's "Live Rehearsal" demo and 1993's "Travesty" EP.
In all, over one hour of some of the darkest and nastiest recordings of the early 90's death metal scene finally compiled and wrapped in cover art by Mark Riddick and carefully remastered by Ryan Butler of Arcane Digital. In related news, Morgion has been announced for the 2013 installment of Maryland Death Fest. Originally slated to appear at this year's fest, Morgion was forced to bow out due to circumstances beyond their control. More...
Today, Arkhamin Kirjasto premieres the new video for "Sea of Madness," which comes from the band's recently released debut album, "Torches Ablaze." Check out the video below. The following press release was also issued:
"Released on September 5th by Ektro Records, 'Torches Ablaze' is exciting and bewildering listeners alike with its Lovecraftian take on weirdo melodic death metal (or, as the band puts it, 'from Angel Witch to Morbid Angel'). 'Sea of Madness' is a provocative embodiment of those elements, and its similarly/eerily provocative video can be viewed below."
"It wonderfully crafts a vision of disturbed mind," says vocalist/drummer Samae Koskinen of the Mattyr Hekuma-directed video. "The video captures brilliantly the feel of the song. It's much more Lovecraftian than tentacles and piles of green goo." More...

Australian progressive metal band Voyager posted a new music video for the song "Seize the Day." The video was created entirely by fan footage of either themselves or of the band in its recent live performances on the successful North American tour with Rhapsody of Fire. The song appears on the band's latest LP "The Meaning of I," available now through Sensory Records.
The concept for the video was by director Ben Berkhout the band. Berkhout commented:
"This video began as a viral campaign where Voyager fans where offered the opportunity to film the band live at The Amplifier. The catch was, it could to only be shot on a 'Smartphone' and thus began the Seize The Day 'Smartphone' Video Shoot in early March 2012.
"We got such a great response from the fans and with the confirmation of a North American Tour with Rhapsody Of Fire, we thought we'd harness the power of social media and the gift of Danny's gab to open up an invitation to the rest of the world to enter their own videos.
"It could be lip-sync, some crazy interpretive dance, driving, eating, swimming, juggling, star jumping, head-banging, rocking out or simply lying on a bed wearing a wrestling mask threatening a cat with a water pistol...... Anything! As long as you had a good time making it! And so it evolved into..... Voyager - Seize The Day (Official 'BY THE FANS' Video) More...
